Vacation goals…
I have them. Real life is not cooperating.
I don’t require poolside margaritas under a fancy cabana to have a good time. All I wanted was ten ghost-free days to enjoy sightseeing New Orleans with my boyfriend, to admire art galleries, listen to live music, and eat as many beignets as I can before my pants stop buttoning.
I might as well have asked Santa for a unicorn.
Within thirty-six hours of setting foot in the Big Easy, an ancient ghost warns me of a murderous spirit lurking in the city, a strip-mall psychic tells me I look pregnant (I blame the beignets) and, oh, yeah, a dead body shows up on the set of my boyfriend’s TV show and he lands himself at the top of the suspect list.
If this karma, I must have been an ax murderer in a previous life.
When Good Ghosts Get the Blues by Danielle Garrett has Scarlett taking a ghost free vacation to New Orleans to spend with her boyfriend Lucas, who is working security for a fixer-upper show working on location there.
Poor Flapjack and Hayward. They tried so hard to change Scarlett’s mind, but she’s determined to have a ghost free vacation. The Big Easy, chocolate and romance lose their luster when Lucas is accused of murder! Before you know it Gwen, Flapjack, and Hayward will come to Scarlet’s aid as the case against Lucas worsens.
The case took center stage, and NOLA became a backdrop despite a few fun scenes in the beginning. This was an intense one with all clues pointing directly at poor Lucas. He frustrated me. I felt like he went down without a fight or had too much faith it would all work out. I wanted Lucas to get mad, but he’s just not that kind of guy. Ah well, it is one trait Scar likes best about him; he is truly a nice guy.
Clues, dark entities, New Orleans witches and more await you in this fun, light paranormal cozy. We gain more insight into what Scarlett is capable of, and I am eager for her to embrace and master some of her abilities besides speaking to ghosts and solving cases.
When Good Ghosts Get the Blues was a fun, addictive cozy mystery with paranormal elements and twists that will keep you listening.
This is Garrett’s second series set in Beechwood and it’s fast becoming a favorite. Amanda Ronconi once again narrates and I just love her for these cozy mysteries. From Scarlett to the different ghosts she makes the story pop and pulls me in. The length of these audios make them perfect for day trips and weekend chores.

This sounds like a really fun series Kimberly. I have not read or listened to anything by this author, but I might just have to give her a try.
Melanie Simmons
I felt bad for Flapjack and Hayward too. I’m having so much fun with this series.
Jen
I too am enjoying this spinoff, but there were a couple frustrating things in this one – I agree. I hope we get more of Scarlett’s manifesting abilities. I’d love to see her team up with Holly again, too. But this is a fun one. Thanks for the review!
Anne - Books of My Heart
I enjoy these but found it frustrating when Scarlett doesn’t seem all that interested in figuring out her own abilities or using them to solve this one. She didn’t work very well with ghosts at first. I feel like often we don’t get any of the good stuff until the last couple paragraphs. The rest is all the cozy mystery and quirky characters.
Crystal @ Lost in Storyland
This sounds like a cute read. I love the vacation / New Orleans setting and how Scarlett is drawn into a mystery despite her best efforts towards having a ghost-free vacation.
Ethan
I love the setting of this one. It really lends to the paranormal aspects!
Lorna
This sounds like a fun read. Anything set in New Orleans with ghosts just “fits”. And Amanda Ronconi! Love her!
Tanya @ Rantings of a Reading Addict
These sound like so much fun and it’s been so long since I’ve read a cozy. I love Amanda Ronconi though so these might be a listen sooner rather than later.
