The first rule of being a ghost whisperer: Don’t tell anyone.

Seriously. Don’t.

Sure, it might sound harmless. A fun party trick, even. I assure you, it’s not.

How do I know? Well, let’s just say that I’ve had a lot of experience with this sort of thing, and nine times out of ten, it turns into an all-consuming disaster.

Being plagued by needy ghosts twenty-four/seven is one thing; being harassed by a horde of curious — or worse, grieving — flesh-and-blood people is an entirely different circus. I mean really, who wants to hold an impromptu séance in the middle of the cereal aisle? Not me, and the manager of the grocery store probably isn’t too crazy about the idea, either.

So, that’s it. If you’re a ghost whisperer, just keep your mouth shut and act normal. Ghosts? What ghosts?

Now, if only I would start listening to my own advice …

Book Series paranormal MURDERMYSTERY Small-town

We are back in Beechwood Harbor for a new series! The Ghost Hunter Next Door by Danielle Garrett. Ghosts, a TV Home Makeover Show and a decades old murder mystery provided the perfect start to this series!

This story and series takes place in the same town as the Beechwood Harbor Magic Mystery series featuring a halfway house for displaced paranormals. It is not necessary to have read them, although our heroine knows the residences who reside there including the manor’s ghostly owner.

Scarlet is a ghost whisper, who learned at a young age to never tell people she can converse with the dead. She in fact has two ghostly companions. The first ghost she ever encountered and an Englishman.

Needless to say it took Scarlet quite a while to settle down and find herself. Thanks to an inheritance she has recently moved to Beechwood and opened a floral shop. She lives above the shop and one evening a week she listens to ghosts helping the ones she can.

I liked Scarlet right away along with her paranormal companions, a cat, and Englishman. A local ghost who loves gossip and is a good source for intel and new to her inner ghostly circle.

When a violent ghost seeks Scarlet out and demands she put a stop to the renovations in her home, we soon find ourselves dealing with a possible poltergeist as we try to solve an old murder.

It was fun tagging along with Scarlett and Lucas, the set security guard as they tried to find out what really happened to Rosie in the Victorian home on the fateful night she died.

I love the seaside community of Beechwood Harbor. It seems to be a place that supernaturals flock too, and it’s nice to see a ghost whisper in their mists. The mystery was well done with some twists. I also enjoyed the budding romance/friendship that occurred.

Amanda Ronconi narrates, and she does a wonderful job capturing the characters from the living to the dead. She narrates the other series and is a good match for Garrett whose stories are perfect for audio listens.

If you love murder-mysteries, small-town stories and paranormal woo-woo The Ghost Hunter Next Door is a fun story. You’ll soon find yourself wanting to visit Beechwood Harbor.

Sometimes it is so nice to read about the small town setting, and it seems like it works well for this paranormal book. I am glad you enjoyed the first in this series so much and I hope you continue to enjoy the books x
