After listening to the Rebels & Redcoats Saga by T.J. London, I’ve been on the lookout for more books set during the American Revolutionary War. I was intrigued by the synopsis of A Girl Called Samson by Amy Harmon. I am so glad I listened to this delightful, well executed historical fiction featuring a fearless heroine and a swoon-worthy romance.

The Levee was narrated by JD Jackson and written by author William Kent Krueger. I was drawn to this historical fiction, which takes place in 1927. When the most devastating flood in American history occurred. The Mississippi River swelled to a width of eighty miles and countless lives were lost. The Levee shares the story of four men who boarded a tiny boat to rescue a family trapped on an island. This heartfelt tale of man vs nature pulled me in.
