Sorcerer to the Crown, by Zen Cho lured me with its promise of an alternate London, magic and Fae. Politics, prejudice and magic are central themes in this fantasy set against an alternate Regency England. Despite some issues, Sorcerer to the Crown with its dry humor and colorful character ended up making me smile.
The Banished Craft by E.D.E. Bell
Now and again, I like to lose myself in a high fantasy and when the opportunity to review The Banished Craft by E.D.E. Bell came along, I accepted. It is the first in the Shkode trilogy. How could I pass up a world with DRAGONS and WIZARDS? Fascinating, quirky this adult fantasy can easily be read by fans of the genre in all age groups.
An Ember in the Ashes by Sabaa Tahir
I love a good dystopian, it is what drew me to the young adult genre and when I saw reviews for An Ember in the Ashes by Sabaa Tahir I was excited about the promise of a roman-world with violence, oppression and dual narratives. When an opportunity to review the audio presented itself, I dove headfirst. I am so glad that I did. An Ember in the Ashes was beautifully written and executed.
The Novice by Taran Matharu
The Novice by Taran Matharu is the first in the Summoner series and one readers will enjoy. From the stunning cover to the supernatural creatures this young adult fantasy delivered. I will warn you the cliffy is draw dropping but I promise this one is not to be missed.
Undertow by Michael Buckley
Between the awesome cover and the synopsis of Undertow by Michael Buckley, I knew that I had to try this young adult science-fiction fantasy. The first in the Undertow trilogy Buckley did an excellent job of drawing me in and introducing an ocean-dwelling race that has invaded the shores of Coney Island. From prejudice to romance and despite some issues I quickly became caught up in this descriptive, fast-paced tale.
