Two homicide detectives must separate the puzzling truth from a growing web of lies while investigating a murder victim’s friends and lovers in Lost Beach, Texas.
Detective Nicole Lawson is fed up with her job and nonexistent love life. Her first date in months gets cut short by an urgent call from the chief of police. A body has been discovered at Lighthouse Point, and the medical examiner finds an array of strange clues. When the death is ruled a homicide, the news quickly reverberates through Nicole’s beachside hometown.
The Lost Beach police department swings into high gear. Leading the investigation is Emmet Davis, a veteran detective who is Nicole’s fiercest rival at work and also the man she has secretly harbored feelings toward for years. With Emmet calling the shots, Nicole sets out to search for leads, starting with the enigmatic yoga instructor who first discovered the body. Nicole is certain the witness knows more than she’s revealing and may even hold the key to unlocking the case.
When another person turns up dead under suspicious circumstances, Nicole sees a bizarre pattern, but no one believes her theory. Under the gun to solve the case, Nicole must put aside her tumultuous feelings and work closely with Emmet to figure out who is targeting her beloved hometown . . . before she becomes a target herself.
I’ve really been enjoying Griffin’s Texas Murder Files series from the intriguing cases to the romances. Each book works as a standalone with its own case and romance.
When a body turns up near the lighthouse and is ruled a homicide, Detective Nicole Lawson and veteran detective Emmet Davis work the case. Nicole wants the lead, but the chief gives it to Emmet. Nicole has feelings for Emmet, but has kept them hidden. She also sees him as her biggest rival. I liked their banter and his protective nature, which Nicole finds annoying.
The case was a curious one, and Nicole’s instincts regarding witnesses and leads were spot on. A second murder and attempted murder amped up the suspense and brought feelings to light. It was a gripping murder mystery with a clever twist.
I liked Emmet and enjoyed seeing their relationship develop. Griffin does a wonderful job of balancing the case and romantic thread. Although, I think it fell more towards a murder mystery case, but it’s also what I like about her stories. I found myself equally invested in both outcomes.
Fans of murder-mysteries & police cases with a side of romance will enjoy taking Liar’s Point to the beach this summer.

I love it when a book balances intriguing cases with a touch of romance. Nicole and Emmet’s dynamic seems really engaging, and the murder mystery plot sounds super gripping. I’m definitely adding Liar’s Point to my summer reading list!
