You are never too old to learn something new. On vacation in June, I tried a Long Island Iced Tea. It looked cool and refreshing. While I knew it contained a lot of alcohol, what I did not know was that it contained zero tea! Yep, zero. Here is a recipe and the perfect book(s) to curl up with while you enjoy a cold glass….
Ingredients
1/2 ounce rum
1/2 ounce tequila
1/2 ounce gin
1/2 ounce vodka
1/2 ounce sweet and sour mix
1/2 ounce triple sec
cola to taste
lemon wedge
Directions
Fill large glass with ice. In shaker add all liquor. Shake with ice. Then add cola to taste. Garnish with lemon wedge. Enjoy!
This packs a punch and honest to goodness it taste just like iced tea. Drink responsibly.
Have you ever tried a Long Island Iced Tea?
Book Recommendation
It’s the hot days of summer so grab your Long Island Iced tea and a good book, then find a cool place to curl up and keep cool.
All of these books rocked. Some I listened to and others I read, but all were memorable and are ones I would gift or share with others.
- Have You Seen Luis Velez is relevant and heartwarming and one I wish everyone would read.
- Polaris Rising was kick-ass. I cannot wait for the next audio.
- Kill the Queen and the next book in the Crown of Shards series, Protect the Prince rocked my face off.
- Brazen and the Beast, made me swoon.
- The Bookish Life of Nina Hill, me laugh.
- Blake Crouch is brilliant and Recursion is one heck of a ride.
- Where the Crawdads Sing was absolutely beautiful and brilliant. I listened and loved it so much I bought the hardcover edition.

Back in my younger days Long Island Ice Tea was my go to. They are seriously yummy. I quit drinking a really long time ago, but you made me want one! I would recommend Five Minute Life by Emma Scott, Ravished by Mia Sheridan or My Life in Shambles by Karina Halle. All were so good.

I remember having my first long island iced tea back just after I graduated college – and was told at that time what it was. WHEW! They are for sipping or you’ll be tripping! I have enjoyed a couple quick, light summer reads – that would be my pick to pair with a drink like that.

Some great recommendations here. I want to read Nina Hill, I have read some good things about it.

long island iced tea is still my favorite drink, great for a cold wintry night here

Yes! Nina Hill was such a fun book and heartwarming too. Waxman won me as a fan with that one.

I have never tried a long island iced tea, I know many love them though!! I don’t drink alcohol so that is why. LOTS of liquor there though. Hope it left you happy.

I’ve never tried a long island ice tea and I thought it had tea in it too. Those book recommendations look nice. I loved Kill The Queen.

I love Long Island Iced Teas though I’m not sure I ever really knew what was in it except for all the alcohol! I adored Have You Seen Luiz Velez? and I just bought The Bookish Life on Nina Hill on Audible. I’m really looking forward to listening to it.

LOL, I thought they had a little tea in them, too.
I want to read the Where the Crawdad Sings and Bookish Life of Nina Hill.

I wonder why this is called tea? LOL!
I’ve tried some of the books and have loved them too! I just finished Three Mages and a Margarita and loved it Kim! I also just finished The Fall of Marigolds and it was so good! I can’t believe it took me so long to pick it up. The Patient was really good as well. I’ve read a lot of books that have been sitting in my TBR pile for a long time this summer and have loved them! I love it when that happens. 😉

There’s no tea in Long Island Iced Tea?? Mind. Blown. LOL I’ve had one or two of those many years ago but decided they were just too strong for my liking. I’m not much of a drinker anyway. I’m super intrigued by Kill the Queen even though it’s far from my usual style.
