Deanna Raybourn’s ninth book in the Veronica Speedwell Mysteries proved quite the clever case, when Lord Rosemorran purchases a wax doll and his daughter asked Stoker to animate it. What Veronica and Stoker discover is a carefully preserved human encased in wax like the Sleeping Beauty in the style of Madame Tussaud’s. I don’t think I’ll ever grow bored with this series and quickly was swept up into the mystery and these characters.
Speculations in Sin by Jennifer Ashley is the seventh novel in the Below the Stairs Mystery series featuring amateur sleuth and cook Kat Holloway. Kat and her pose of friends, search for answers when Samuel Millburn, husband of the woman who looks after her daughter, is arrested. A fantastic tale with plenty of twists and orange sorbet.
A Haunting in the Arctic by C. J. Cooke delivered an atmospheric tale about a deserted shipwreck off the coast of Iceland. Cooke skillfully shares its past and present as a modern daily explorer Dominique, feels the need to document the ship before it is destroyed. A chilling tale perfect for a chilly winter’s night.
Sarah Sundin delivered a touching historical fiction as a mother searches for her child during WWII, in Embers of London. A mother’s love, romance, diversity and a murder mystery made this an engaging listen. Narrated by Lisa Larsen, you’ll want to add this one to your audio bookshelf.

This historical fiction shares what it was like for the nurses there and the trials they faced when returning home. This well-researched tale will pull you and tug at your heartstrings.
