Good news: the biopsy came back clean. Recovery has been a little rough. The normal stuff that we anticipated – no solids for 2-3 weeks, swelling (lots) and pain were manageable. What I didn’t anticipate was the lingering effect of the anesthesia. I was/am very dizzy, fell (fainted) a few times and had a lot of brain fog. The most annoying thing was the drain tube and the fact that despite telling everyone and it being noted all over my chart, they used adhesive tape in the surgery room to secure gauze around the drain. I was out of it all day Thursday, so when my husband went to change the gauze per hospital instructions on Friday morning, EVERYWHERE they used adhesive tape my skin had blistered and pulled off when he removed the tape. In addition, my entire face, neck and chest turned bright red with hives. It was an experience for both of us.😱 100% do not recommend. My husband, with the help of our pharmacist, came up with a solution to cover the drain and not use any tape. Mr. Caffeinated does not do well with blood (or seeing me in pain), but he was the best damn nurse.🥰 Thankfully, the drain tube has now been removed. Not sure how long my neck will look like I swallowed a cantaloupe (swelling) but the incision site looks good. If I continue to keep passing out, I will need to go back in this week for a full workup. I spent most of the past week in bed, sleeping (a lot), watching television, reading when I could and listening to audiobooks (which was easier). Stay Caffeinated, spread kindness and if you are able, donate to your local food bank.

That is great news that the biopsy came back clear, Kimberly. Hopefully you are doing better by now, as I am reading this 10 days late.
Sophia Rose
What a relief the biopsy came back clean. Yowsers, what a nightmare with the adhesive and caring for the port. Hope this week is much better for you, Kimberly!
mistysbookspace
I’m sorry for everything you’ve been dealing with lately but I’m so glad the biopsy came back clean. When I was little I learned that I had an allergy to paper tape. For the longest time that was the only tape that I was an allergic too. Over the past couple of years though it has become all adhesive including bandaids.
Jen Twimom
I”m glad you are recovering and yea for your husband being such a good caregiver. My daughter also has sever reactions to tegaderm (the tape). It’s so awful. I hope you continue to improve and the dizziness gets better. Thanks for taking the time to fill us in.
sherry fundin
Sorry to hear you are having a rough recovery. Kudos to the hubby.
Joanne
Great. Continued healing.
Rachel @Waves of Fiction
I’m happy that the biopsy came back clean, but what a harrowing experience for you! I hope the side effects resolve and you recover quickly, Kimberly!
Lark @ The Bookwyrm's Hoard
Oh, Kimberly, that sounds miserable! I hope that you start feeling better soon, that the swelling goes down, and that you don’t have any more fainting spells. And I’m glad your husband is taking such good care of you. You’re in my prayers.
Anne - Books of My Heart
I hope your recovery speeds up. It’s great your husband is such a wonderful nurse for you. I can’t believe it’s November already. Wishing for you to be all healed by the holiday season.
Katherine
Anesthesia is tough to recover from. It feels like it takes forever to get out of the system. Adhesive was the bane of our existence when Will was in the early stages of treatment. Glad Mr Caffeinated was able to come up with an alternative. I hope you have a great week and a much easier time of it!
Victoria Hamel
Sorry your recovery has been sucky. I am thrilled the biopsy came back clean. Wonderful news. I have latex allergy all over my everything due to hives and blistering that happened to me after surgery in 2019. Your experience sounds much worse than mine. Gentle hugs.
Sophie
I am so RELIEVED that the biopsy came back clean! I hope your dizzy spell will end soon. Take it easy. And I am sorry fro what happened with the tape!
Teresa Broderick
Hope you are back to yourself soon. Sounds like an ordeal. You’ve been through the ringer. Best of luck!!
Lisa @ Boondock Ramblings
Oh wow! This has been a crazy ride for you. I really pray that the fainting stops and they can figure all of that out.. Fainting is such a fear of mine but, so far, even when I feel like I might faint, I haven’t.
Sarah
Delighted to hear the biopsy has come back clean – but horrified to hear of the avoidable suffering you endured because of someone’s inability to read your notes!! And glad you have been able to properly rest up and enjoy audiobooks – they are a lifeline when too ill to cope with anything else. I very much hope you recover from this ordeal quickly, without further need for a hospital stay, Kimberly.

Yay for half of this update and oh no for the rest. I hope the anesthesia effects wear off asap. I heard sometimes the after effects are more bothersome than the actual surgery and healing. Why can’t we be living in a Star Trek Universe? {{{posivibes}}}

I’m glad the results were good, but so sorry it has been such a mess to deal with! I mean that should have been something they were more careful about, having allergic reactions while already recovering from the procedure sounds so scary! I hope that you are able to get past the dizziness, I know how much that sucks to deal with. Wishing you lots of healing and improvement this week!
Bree @ Bibliophilebree
Sending good vibes for your continued recovery! Can’t wait for the HoHoHoReadathon to begin – I have my TBR ready.
Bonnie Reads and Writes
Glad the biospy results were good. So sorry about the painful recovery. I pray you start feeling better soon.
Tammy @ Books, Bones & Buffy
I’m so sorry you’re having a rough recovery. I’m glad the results of the biopsy were good though. Take care!
Jessica @ a GREAT read
Well I am glad the procedure went well but sorry to hear about the tape fiasco! That sounds painful! But glad you were able to work out a solution! Having had a few surgeries in my day, I don’t remember having such a reaction to anesthesia. I think at most I was tired for the rest of that day and maybe a wee bit in the morning. But sleep is usually always good for when you need to heal. Hope your healing continues to be safe and hopefully speedy! 😉
Nice new reads! These are new to me ones but I hope you enjoy them once you get to read them!
Here’s my StS

I am so thankful for a clean report and that overall you are doing okayish. The fainting is not cool at all. I hope that it stops on its own, and if not, that they are able to figure it out. Are you staying hydrated? I will continue to pray for your healing.
Michelle@Because Reading
Oh my friend! I am so sorry you have to go though all of that but I am so glad everything came back clean! Wishing you nothing but the best and a speedy recovery!
Rest up! Hope this week is awesome! Happy Reading! oxoxo

I’m happy hear the biopsy came back negative but I’m sorry you’ve been going through so much. Take care – better days are ahead.
Deb Nance at Readerbuzz
Ugh. I’m sorry the experience was so needlessly painful!
Becki
Oh! Glad to hear recovery is probably on track, and hope the fainting stops without another visit. Also random, but good on you for taking care of your health and keeping yourself a priority 🙂
Olivia
First, I am so glad the lump was benign. Second of all, it is so frustrating when the medical staff does not pay attention to allergies. Sheesh! Just what you need, nasty allergic reactions, when you’re trying to recover from surgery. I hope your dizziness and fainting go away without further need of medical intervention. And yay for amazing husbands!
Lola
Glad to hear the biopsy came back clean, but that recovery sounds super rough. With the feeling faint and dizzy, let’s hope that’s gone soon. And then the whole thing with them using adhesive tape to secure the drain tube despite it being noted on your chart not to do that, like how does that happen why didn’t they read that? Glad to hear your husband was there to help and the drain tube is gone now. I hope you feel better soon!
Adele @ Adele Bound in Books
I’m glad the biopsy was clear, and I wish you a speedy recovery.
Jill
You’ve really been through it! Hooray for a negative biopsy though.
Lori
I am so glad you had a clear scan. I am sorry you had a bad reaction to the tape. I am surprised you didn’t have a bracelet warning about your allergy, hospitals have those for everything these days. Our husbands are so great when we are hurting and you had a major issue. Rest and recover. You are in my prayers.
Chris Tullbane
I’m glad Mr. Caffeinated is taking such good care of you! Here’s hoping the fainting and brain fog are short-lived… my father spent some time in the ICU recently and definitely experienced the same issues after his surgery. Thankfully, those symptoms faded as everything else started to heal.
Jinjer
What a harrowing ordeal!!! I’m glad you’re doing better now and that you have a good male nurse at home taking care of you.
Yvonne @ Socrates Book Reviews
Glad to see you back online. I’m sorry for all you went through and are still going through. I hope you start feeling better soon. Many hugs to you.
