The Royals were off from school Monday for Martin Luther King Day. Then they had Tuesday off because the morning temps were negative twenty-three. Burr. It was a long week, but this weekend my granddaughter, the oldest Royal, Sophia, turns ten! We have hit double digits. I spent some time reflecting on her birth and the privilege of being her Nonna. She is growing into this sweet, sometimes shy, always clever girl. She fills my heart with joy. Remember, during these troubling days, the wonderful things/moments in your life. Stay Caffeinated.

Both The Mummy of Mayfair and Nothing Ever Happens Here sound really good! I look forward to seeing your reviews. 🙂

My kids were also off the Tuesday after MLK Day due to “extreme cold.” I’m ready for Spring!

Happy Birthday to Sweet Sophia. My grands are also growing up way too fast. I picked up Ruth Casie’s new book this week and am looking forward to it. I hope it warms up a bit for you this week.

My son had a teacher training day on Friday so we have had a long weekend. It was nice to do some baking with him and go to the library!

10 is a milestone! I bet those years have gone quickly!

    Have a great weekend!

My kids had no school on Monday, cancelled Tues & Wednesday for cold, and cancelled Thurs for snow. Ugh! My daughter was trying to visit a college which closed Tuesday for cold, so they had to stay Wednesday and drive home late that night, in awful snow! So I’m feeling it. Miss being a school employee, as I watch them with all these days off (okay, I called in Thursday! hahaha)

Yes! It is important to reflect on the wonderful moments during disturbing times! Sophia is a little older than my oldest grandson who will be turning 10 August 1st! The double digits! I loved Better Than Friends! I need to check out your review.

Happy Birthday Sophia! In these troubling times I’m trying to help where I can and raise my voice for those who can’t. Every night before bed I ask myself what am I grateful for. It helps a bit. It’s going to be a long 4 yrs. Though I’m hoping the midterms will bring about a positive change. At least this month is nearly over. Been way waaayyyy too cold here in NC lately.

It’s these milestone birthdays that leave you scratching your head at where the time has gone, I find… My eldest grandson turned 20 last December – and I swear it was only the day before yesterday that I held him in my arms as a newborn! Glad the birthday went off so well and I loved your wonderful words that sum up so well what a privilige it is to see the next generation growing up…

I totally agree with you! My niece and nephew are what keep me going at times. That and being needed by my mom now that my stepdad has passed. I’m so glad to be close to family. Even doing our weekly “coffee” with my dad, stepmom, and sister and having to not chime in with my own political opinions just to be able to have peaceful time. I did say something this week I wish I wouldn’t have, but it is what it is. Hope you have a good week!

Happy birthday to your granddaughter. What you wrote about her and our need to slow down and be grateful for our roles in people’s lives was a beautiful reminder. Thank you.

  10. Carla

-23° is way too cold! Your granddaughter is lucky to have a Nona like you. Such sweet thoughts about her growing up. Have a wonderful week!

  11. Lola

That’s some cold weather you had this week. Happy birthday to Sophia! I hope you enjoy your new books and have a great week!

  12. Lori

    Happy Birthday Sophia!!!

I am so over winter and the wind and snow and frigid temps. Spring can’t get here so enough.🌼🌸🌻🪻🌷🌺🌹

  13. Lark @ The Bookwyrm's Hoard

I can’t believe Sophia is almost 10! Please wish her a happy birthday from me. And 23 below? Brrrrrrrrrrrrrr! I thought it was cold here, with our lows in the single digits and highs in the teens or low twenties, but the Midwest had us beat.

And yes to your last thought. It’s going to be so important to focus on the people who matter to us, and the small things that bring us joy. Hang in there, my friend.
