I went into this story blind and was delighted to discover Playing with Fire takes place in present day, but also shares life in Venice, Italy during World War II. Gerritsen weaves her magic in Playing with Fire.
Queen of Always by Sherry D. Ficklin is the last book in the Stolen Empire series and perhaps the darkest. Catherine needs to be ruthless if she is to survive life in the Imperial Court. Ficklin delivered in sharing the last chapters of Catherine’s story and it held me spellbound.
Compulsion by Martina Boone is the first in her Southern Gothic series The Heirs of Watson Island. I was delighted to have the opportunity to review the audio version narrated by Joell A. Jacob. I quickly became swept up in the families, characters and secrets of Watson Island.
I was intrigued by the premise of The Walled City by Ryan Graudin and when an opportunity to review the audio edition presented itself, I jumped at the chance. Powerful, beautifully written and compelling this story kept me up until the wee hours of the morning.
