Hello April. Spent the week watching my retirement funds diminish as we enter a tariff war. In March I read/listened to 21 books. I am at 59/150 Goodreads and 42/150 for the Audiobook Challenge. For the first time in forever, I am not writing reviews on all the books/audios I listen to that aren’t arcs. I may do multiple review short & sweet posts at some point. This is the first year I haven’t reviewed everything. What about you? Stay Caffeinated and spread kindness.

I missed this weeks Sunday post… and it became a Wednesday post because I was traveling for work and spaced. After reading your post I went to check my retirement… and ooooof.
Looks like stock market is coming back up, I really hope my retirement can make the same recovery. fingers crossed for us all

  2. Rachel @Waves of Fiction

I missed this weeks Sunday Post because I was at a wedding in Vegas! We also lost A LOT of money in our retirement fund this last week! I hope it comes back up… What a nightmare on top of all the other nightmares! I don’t write reviews for everything I read anymore. Haven’t for a while. If it’s not an ARC I mostly just write a few sentences on Goodreads and list it on my Sunday Post as read with maybe a few sentences on what I thought. I link up my little review on Goodreads.

  3. Katherine

I have a few projects that I review what I read but usually if it’s not an ARC I just do mini reviews though if the book is just fine I might skip that all together. The new Emily Henry book looks really good. I really enjoyed Funny Story. Have a great week!

  4. Literary Feline

It’s so scary seeing the fall of our economy like this–our country really. It’s just horrible what’s happening.

I am glad you had a good reading month! I fell behind in my reviews this past month. I hope I do better this month. I am really looking forward to reading A Drop of Corruption and Vera Wong’s Guide to Snooping on a Dead Man at some point. I loved the first book in both those series. I hope you have a good week. Take care!

  5. Anne- Books of My Heart

Same. Although I couldn’t stand to look very much. I did what I could but no strategy seemed like it would work, even though I was sure this was happening after the election. I have always had some free reads. My Thrifty Thursdays work that way a little bit. But I usually do review them. It’s library books I often don’t review unless they are part of a Sunday series or some other feature I am doing.

  6. Victoria

I have not been reviewing everything I read either. I focus more on if they are indie authors, to give them a boost. I ended this week with the flu. I am not looking at my retirement savings. I saw an ad for authors to use a company to make special editions with sprayed edges and whatnot. I thought to myself, if we have a recession who is going to be buying those books. I’m going to make sure to up my purchases at my local indie bookstore as the year goes on.

  7. LORI CASWELL

I am right there with watching our funds dwindle. The tariffs are truly a mess, headed by incompetence and stupidity.
I am working hard to get caught up on reviews since my hospital stay but it is so hard. I may have to do some short and sweet ones, and I am not reviewing books I have purchased at this time.

Deep breaths we are not in this fight alone. The rallies yesterday made that clear. Stay strong.

  8. Lisa @ Boondock Ramblings

Thank you for hosting this every week. I don’t have a strict book review blog but used to post more reviews than I do now. I’m mainly reading and not worrying about the reviews as much these days. I do go back and review some in bulk when I think about it. Have a great reading week.

  9. Lark @ The Bookwyrm's Hoard

We’re watching our retirement funds drain away, too. I wish I had known about yesterday’s protests in time to take part.

I haven’t reviewed every ARC in a long time, but that’s mostly because I’ve been having a hard time making time for review writing, and a certain amount of writer’s block. After a while, I felt like I had nothing new and fresh to say. I am trying to do better this year, though. That said, I think it’s fine to not review occasionally, especially if the book didn’t do much for you.

I’ve only read 11 books this entire YEAR so far, and GR says I’m too books behind schedule. AND I see it counted one book twice so I’ve only read 10. Please excuse me why I go figure out why it posted the book once as “on Goodreads Shelf” and once as “in Kindle library”.

I started out reviewing every cozy I read, but that quickly changed. I just don’t have the time or energy to post reviews on my blog for everything. Wishing you a wonderful week. 🙂

  12. Kitty

21 books in March is amazing! I’m seriously impressed. I totally get the shift in reviewing too—sometimes it’s just too much to keep up with everything, especially when you’re reading that much. Short & sweet roundups sound like a perfect solution.

Also—I’m really looking forward to Great Big Beautiful Life at the end of the month! It sounds like such a good one. Hope April treats you kindly. 💜

  13. A Voracious Reader

Same regarding my retirement accounts, a good portion of which I need for my current renovations. It’s so fucking infuriating! >:o|

I haven’t reviewed everything yet because I have 30 reviews to write. I’m thinking of just a short review, like what I used to do for the magazine. 250 words (+/-) and make the Nice Sandwich. Nice, criticism (if any) and nice. Done. Short and to the point. Author gets a review and I don’t feel guilty. Supposed to rain tomorrow so no work on the house. Maybe I can knock some out. *fingers crossed*

  14. Becki

I looked at my retirement accounts this week. I don’t think I need to look again for a while. I’m not in tune enough to make changes, so I’ll just let it ride, as I’ve seen advised by some financial peeps! Hopefully this hell can be corrected soon….

  15. Emma @ Words And Peace

so sorry for your funds. So so insane!
I guess am going against the trend here, but so far, I have reviewed all the books I have read this year. The Sunday Post helps me a lot to do short reviews for some books. I have even recently caught up with older books I had notes on but never reviewed

  16. Jodie

The tariff war is unnecessary and certainly breaks the USMCA that Trump signed in his first term. I also picked up Great Big Beautiful Life and hope that we both enjoy it. Have a great week ahead.

  17. Olivia

I generally like writing reviews, but I don’t read as many books as you do either. I average about 4 books per month. So I do write reviews on all that I read.

  18. Jessica @ a GREAT read

Yeah this tariff wars thing is a big headache! Just got smacked with it when the stores I shop from in the UK were talking about suspending US orders for the meantime and I panicked! Saw that Blackwells has it resolved and I think Waterstones might be close, but they didn’t really give concrete thumbs up! All my years of blogging I still find that I review every book I read. In recent years I’ve decided to not bother with my DNF reviews. My last few I either DNF so early on or the book was so confusing that I didn’t even really comprehend what I was reading and didn’t feel like writing one. Occasionally I might write one if I feel compelled to but on the last one where I read 200 pages I just wanted to move onto something else.

Nice new reads! These are some new to me ones although a few look familiar. I hope you end up enjoy each and every one of them!

    Here’s my StS

    Have a GREAT day!

    Old Follower 🙂

  19. Lorna

I used to review everything I read back during the olden days on Pure Textuality. I quit doing that several years ago and I wondered how you did it with all you have going on! And you’re moving right along on your GoodReads challenge. Way better than me although it says I’m 2 ahead of where I should be. I’m jealous you have the new Emily Henry book. I’m on the hold list at the library.

  20. Carla

I won’t even look at my retirement account, I’m terrified that I’m broke. Right now I only have time for ARCs but I intend to slow that down. I don’t read as many books as a lot of people so I write reviews on everything. Have a great week!

  21. Lola

I always try and review everything I read, but I’ve changed to making my reviews shorter in general compared to a few years ago, but it depends a bit on the book. I’ve also seen some reviewers do very short reviews for some books, which seems helpful too. That tariff war sounds like a pain and I am sorry to hear about the dent it puts in your retirement funds.

  22. vidya

don’t mention those diminishing funds!! i would rather discover the mystery behind that bakery

  23. Greg

I always enjoy short and sweet reviews, they’re fun. Hope you’re having a nice weekend. I’m avoiding all news it’s so depressing…

  24. Laurel-Rain Snow

You always impress me by how many books you read. Not reviewing everything sounds like a good idea, actually.

Our economic situation is troubling to me, too. I see no hope for our country right now. Reading and viewing does help.
