Supernatural Squad might be small, but we're growing in power. The vampires and werewolves of London are beginning to respect me more and I feel like I know what I'm doing - even if I don't yet understand what I truly am.

Unfortunately, there might be a few snags to deal with. I'm trying to avoid Lord Horvath, the black-eyed vampire leader who seems intent on a more intimate relationship. There's also Devereau Webb, who runs a small criminal syndicate and has offered me a mysterious gift that I'm certain I don't want. And across the span of one single day, supernatural hell breaks loose across the city of London.

A suicidal vampire has climbed up the London Eye.

Three werewolves have hijacked a tourist bus.

This might prove to be the longest day of my life.

urban magical CRIME SUSPENSE

We are back with Supe Squad Detective Constable Emma Bellamy in another engaging day of crime, death and double crosses. Midnight Smoke by Helen Harper is the third audiobook in the Firebrand Urban Fantasy series narrated by Ruth Urquhart.

I am loving the world Harper has created from our spunky constable to Lord Horvath, aka Lukas, or if you prefer… Lord of the Vampires. The series is best listened to in the order of its release. Each installment has its own mystery as the overall series ARC is further developed.

On her return from a research trip about her parents, Emma is called to the London Eye where it appears a vampire is attempting suicide, when another call comes in about an attack on a human filled bus…

It turns out all of this is just a diversion for a bigger attack and by the end of the day lives are lost.

Emma runs into Deverau Webb, who gives her a small vile with a cryptic message about righting things. Welcome to Ground Hog Day! Emma has a limited number of repeats to solve the case and save lives.

The story that unfolds repeats the same day over and over, with some interesting twists, and a rather spicy love scene. The compelling case and shenanigans kept me listening.

The tale was well crafted and Emma despite her inexperience showed she is exactly what the Sup community needs.

Each audiobook has been stronger than its predecessor, and it has me excited for more. Ruth Urquhart truly enhances the story by capturing the personality of the characters and their chemistry. I recommend you grab this series on audio.

An engaging day of crime, death, swoons and double crosses made Midnight Smoke by Helen Harper an addictive listen. #audiobook #RuthUrquhart #Firebrand #UrbanFantasy Click To Tweet
