Harry has faced terrible odds before. He has a long history of fighting enemies above his weight class. The Red Court of vampires. The fallen angels of the Order of the Blackened Denarius. The Outsiders.

But this time it’s different. A being more powerful and dangerous on an order of magnitude beyond what the world has seen in a millennium is coming. And she’s bringing an army. The Last Titan has declared war on the city of Chicago, and has come to subjugate humanity, obliterating any who stand in her way.

Harry’s mission is simple but impossible: Save the city by killing a Titan. And the attempt will change Harry’s life, Chicago, and the mortal world forever.

magical urban Truffles well written

Hells Bells, Battle Ground narrated by James Marsters and written by Jim Butcher delivered action, twists, epic battles and consequences. It also brought death, revenge, and left me excited for the next installment.

After the events of Peace Talks, we knew a battle was coming and it all goes down along the shores of Chicago. Almost the entire novel of Battle Ground takes place during the witching hour as we witness the White Council, White Court, Summer and Winter courts, Marcone with his people, the Knights, the werewolves, River Shoulders the sasquatch, and heck even Bob battle the Fodor, and Ethniu the last Titan.

The battles, draws of power, and alliances were epic. We suffer losses and I wept and cheered. In between destruction we see friendships, enjoy moments of snarky humor, and weep along with our characters. The odds are against them, but this is Harry’s city and he won’t let it fall.

At times the story felt almost like the end, and my stomach churned, but looses ends and some surprising developments left me excited for the next installment. I cannot wait…

The audiobook is around seventeen hours, but it felt like just a few as I became completely engrossed and lost sight of the outside world. James Marsters is brilliant. His voice has become the voice of Harry and these characters from Butters to Mab.

The audiobook has a treat at the end… it’s a Christmas story and exactly what we needed. Thank you, Mr. Butcher.

This is the seventeenth audiobook in the Harry Dresden Files. Because this is an urban fantasy, the series and novellas are best read/listened to in the order of their release. You’ll find them at your favorite retailer and local library.

Epic battles, alliances, loss and new developments made Battle Ground by Jim Butcher an intense listen. #TheDresdenFiles #JamesMarsters #audiobook #fandom Click To Tweet

I couldn’t put this down. From start to finish. I already googled for 15 minutes any news on if there will be a next book. I hope so!

Lovely review. I ended up DNFing (for now). I actually did write a review that will post tomorrow. I just couldn’t keep going – it was too dark for me, especially right now. I have heard from a few folks that there is one or two excellent twists, so maybe when the next one comes out, I’ll try to finish it, but for now… *sad face*

Ah, I am sorry Jen and yeah this was dark, gritty and I totally cried, but yes the twists and developments left me excited.. so when you are in a better place I do hope you pick it back up.

This is an author I’ve been hearing about for ever and ever but have never read anything by him. I need to see if I can find the first one in the series.

I’ve slowly been accumulating the books to this series, but I have a feeling that I’ll push them aside and go for the audio. Haha! Glad it is still exciting stuff this far into the series.

I love this series so much! I felt like Harry was being used a lot in this one by the White Council, by Mab, more than in previous books. I wanted someone to care about Harry. Which I know he has allies who do. But I just felt he was thrown out as fodder by the White Council especially.
