My name is Kit Morris, and welcome to my warped life.

Picture the scene: Me, an average guy with psychic powers—not that my abilities are in any way average—just trying to scrape by in a harsh world. So maybe I've conned a few people, but did I really deserve to be thrown in MPD jail alongside magic-wielding serial killers?

According to Agent Lienna Shen, one-hundred-percent yes.

But her hardass attitude and “Arcana prodigy” status aren’t enough to bring down my former best friend, who slipped through the MPD’s fingers and is days away from unleashing untold horrors upon the city. Or he’s going to steal something. I don’t really know.

Whatever he’s up to, that’s why I’m sitting in an interrogation room with Lienna. And that’s why I just offered myself as her temporary new partner for the purposes of thwarting my ex-accomplice.

And that’s how I’m going to escape. I might even help with the case before I cut and run.

urban CRIME magical snarky

Warping Minds & Other Misdemeanors written by Annette Marie & Rob Jacobsen flips things up as we enter the MPD (magic police department) and meet unregistered magic, Kit Morris. Snark, amazing characters and an intense case delivered and left me begging for more.

Confession. I am addicted to the Guild Codex world that Annette Marie has created, and my ears cannot get enough. There. I said it. This is the first story cowritten with Rob Jacobsen and told from a male point of view. I will be honest, I was a tad nervous and lowered my expectations. Holy magic balls… this was tight, hilarious and bloody brilliant.

Kit Morris is being held by the MPD on numerous charges. They arrested his guild for illegal use of magic.  Agent Lienna Shen, the MPD’s youngest Abjuration sorceress and Captain Blythe her superior, are interrogating Kit when he negotiates a deal to help them capture an associate.

I liked Kit and found his backstory and intro to the magical world to be fascinating. He has a unique skill set and witty personality that I immediately liked. I am quite curious to discover what else our new friend can do.

Now Agent Lienna Shen is a magical prodigy working for the MPD and I loved her. She is snarky, tenacious, clever and a kickass mythic. We learned little about her in this first installment, but I found her to be trustworthy. I absolutely loved the dynamics of these two working together and watching trust build and sparks fly.

It will delight fans of the Guild World to know we cross paths with the members of the Crow and Hammer Guild.

Warping Minds & Other Misdemeanors delivered a fun, addictive tale and I am eager to dive into more adventures in the Warped series. Whether you are new to the Guild Codex or a fan, you cannot go wrong adding this to your shelf.

Iggy Toma narrated and captured the voice of Kit perfectly. This was a departure from Cris Dukehart, but with a male POV it worked splendidly. It took me a bit to warm up to his female voices, but he became the voice of Lienna.

Oh I need to pick this one up! Urban Fantasy isn’t something I read very much though what I’ve read I’ve enjoyed. I’ve been hitting the mysteries super hard lately and something a little different might be nice for change of pace.
