Sophia Rose’s Review

If I thought Suzy Spitfire Kills Everybody was a blast, the followup was a force of nature.  Suzy Spitfire Castillo is back and badder than ever- in all the good ways an underdog action heroine can be.

Suzy Spitfire and the Snake Eyes of Venus, picks up where the first book left off, but there is enough there that a person could read it as a standalone.  That said, I thought it was better in order, so all the references to the past took on more significance.

So, Suzy is trying to clean up her act and go good.  She takes on a job to track down an unpunished serial rapist and killer who escaped earth and was last seen in the cloud city above Venus.  She doesn’t even leave earth before her best intentions of staying on the down low are shot up good.  And, then there is the pesky little pain in her heart about leaving Ricardo behind, but if he prefers his Mexican gang activities to her then she will stay gone.

Suzy is a trouble magnet and there are soon so many plots and intrigues swirling around her and half the galaxy out to get her.  She’s smart and lucky, but it’s her fighting grit that keeps her getting back up when someone kicks her down.  With dark humor and a private vulnerability that she hides from everyone behind her impulsive behavior and quick temper, she is a heroine that people can connect with.

There were several familiar faces in this one with Suzy and a few new ones, including a teen girl that reminds Suzy of her younger sister.  Suzy takes her under her wing and I love how the author built up this secondary relationship for Suzy even while she sorts things out with Ricardo and tries to steer through the intrigue going on around her from the volatile politics on Venus to the law after her and the attention of a dark villain.

The action is as thrilling and fast-paced as ever, but there is a goodly layer of introspection to balance it out into a nicely layered story.

So, it was great getting back in Suzy’s world with this stronger than ever sequel.  I hope there is more in the series.  Those who love riveting fast-paced sci-fi adventure should give this book/series a go.

You’re right, It definitely can be read as a standalone because I accidentally read it before Suzy Spitfire Kills Everybody (which I’m reading now and enjoying) but yeah, I can see how it’s better in order. I agree, I’m hoping for more. Great review!
