HARRY DRESDEN IS BACK AND READY FOR ACTION, in the new entry in the #1 New York Times bestselling Dresden Files.

When the Supernatural nations of the world meet up to negotiate an end to ongoing hostilities, Harry Dresden, Chicago's only professional wizard, joins the White Council's security team to make sure the talks stay civil. But can he succeed, when dark political manipulations threaten the very existence of Chicago—and all he holds dear?

urban magical twisted Brothers

The Dresden Files are a favorite here at Caffeinated, and in the past two years I’ve devoured the audiobooks. Like most of his fandom, Peace Talks by Jim Butcher was one of my most anticipated releases for 2020. Butcher did not disappoint as he weaved his magic.

About three months have passed since the last story ended. Dresden is living with Maggie, his daughter. Bonea nicknamed Bonnie along with Mouse and Mister the cat are residing with them. They have apartments within the Svartalves compound. Dresden believes they are safe… that is until something happens with his brother and all hell breaks loose. I need answers. LOL

A vacuum of power developed after the vanquishing of the red court. A supernatural conclave is gathering in Chicago to discuss threats from the Outsiders and to form an accord against power struggles.

People aren’t happy with Dresden or his position on the council. To save his brother, he’ll owe favors.

We see Molly, Butters, Mave, and have to deal with Dresden’s grandfather. We even spend some interesting time with Murphy and The Vampire Queen. I loved it. Butcher has developed his secondary characters and they have become just as important to me as Harry himself.

Butters and Murphy continue to be favorites, and Bonnie was a hoot. I enjoy how Butcher weaves in humor while placing our characters in peril.

We battle the creepy Outsiders who are moving in to fill the void left by the Red Court. Yikes. It brought back memories from previous books and hinted at things to come. OMG. We deal with some pretty intense battle scenes before Butcher sends us off to deal with the fairy courts.

Harry continues to grow as a character, especially now that he is a father. He can see more of the big picture and it changes his perspective. His loyalty to family and belief in the good of others may yet get him killed, but I wouldn’t want him to change.

Fair warning this ends of a cliff and I am already counting down the days until Battle Ground.

James Marsters is the voice of Harry and the other characters. Over the series we see him grow as a narrator as the industry grows right along with him. A stellar performance and one of my favorite narrators.

Peace Talks by Jim Butcher delivered plenty of action and sets the stage for Battle Ground. A #MustListen #audiobook #JamesMarsters #HarryDresden #urbanfantasy Click To Tweet

Hi, Kimberly. I was disappointed that Mab seemed to be so easily pushed aside by Ethinu in Peace Talks. For all of the previous books where she is referenced, she has been pretty much at the top of the food chain, entities are either afraid of her or at least aware of her. There just seemed to be a dismissal of her at the Party scene.

    Any thoughts on that?

Honestly, I think Mab has been feared for too long and never saw it coming. It also shows just how powerful Ethniu really is. It was an intense scene. It gave weight to the trouble Harry is up against. I cannot wait for Battle Ground. Thanks for commenting.

Sounds like a winner in this one. I love seeing the authors we love weave their magic. And having a narrator really do their role so well is always a plus.

    Great review.

It’s one of my favorite series ever and yes, this was a most anticipated MUST listen. Fabulous review! It’s true that many characters have become dear to me in addition to Harry.

Glad I am not the only one. This was a nice buildup and I am glad we don’t have to wait long for the next one!

MOST ANTICIPATED BOOK of 2020! For certain. It was like coming home… hearing Marsters as Dresden again. At least we only have two months to wait for more.
