Nonna's Corner

Welcome back to Nonna’s Corner, where I share books I’ve read with my grandchildren affectionately referred to as the Royals here at Caffeinated. Today we will meet an adorable girl named Flora Figglesworth in Moon Puppets by Baxter B Bramatti.

Flora wants to cast shadows on the moon by using light from the sun. But can she stretch her arms up high enough to see her dreams come true? Flora will have to combine her imagination and determination to create the most fantastic shadow puppet show the world has ever seen!

Mr. Baxter was kind enough to send the Royals a paperback copy of Moon Puppets: A Flora Figglesworth Fantasy. With its simple and playful illustrations by Taylor J. Graham, the Royals settled in quickly for story time.

Flora lives in a house on a hill and loves shadow puppets. She decides she wants to make shadow puppets for all the people on Earth to see. What happens next was delightful, educational and imaginative.

Sophia and Clayton became excited as Flora came up with a plan and worked out how she would accomplish this feat. We laughed, cheered and learned about light, shadows and obstacles. It’s a light-hearted story that allowed for conversation as we hypothesized and shared our own ideas.

While Clayton yelled, “so high”, Sophia mimicked the shadow puppets and grew anxious as Flora worked out obstacles. By the end, both children were reaching for the moon.

This would make a delightful story to accompany a science lesson or a fun, imaginative tale for story time.

Come see how on June 7th using herself, the sun and the moon Flora Figglesworth shared shadow puppets with the world.

    This sounds very sweet!
My son is now too old for these kinds of books but I still love reading them, lol.

Okay that is absolutely adorable. It’s been a while since we stocked up on children’s books. Will have to add this one to my list.

I love that you share these! My love for reading was fostered by my Mom and Grandmother reading to me from a young age, so it is so great to see you share your passion with the Royals.

OOH! How lovely. I think I might have to purchase a copy of this for when I next get to see the little ones in my life … at this rate we shall certainly have a great selection. Thanks to you and Clayton for this Nonna’s Corner post.

I can see this being a great book for kindergarten, especially when we’re doing our units on the moon and light and shadows. Thanks for sharing!
