We are now in the dreaded Firework Zone. For the next two weekends those lovely pops and booms… some legal and some illegal will scare the devil out of us and interfere with watching TV and sleep. Yippy! I sound old don’t I? Ugh. If they quit by 11 pm or did it just around the 4th I wouldn’t care. It’s the 1 am sonic booms that really kill me! Stay Caffeinated!

Hi Kim, It’s nice to be back to visit you. Christmas romance already? Yikes, time does go quickly tho. Goodbye June, indeed. I’m looking forward to your review of Blog Maintenance. I have a confession to make, I have tried my first audio book and I’m not crazy about it. I still prefer to have the ‘words’ before my eyes. Do the audio books you review also come in print version? I have some review catching up to do here. 🙂

Yes, most audiobooks are book babies first..lol I am not necessarily looking for reviews though, just some spotlight and sharing of the giveaway so others see it. Reviewing is optional. Sometimes audiobooks are all about finding the right one..I hated them and couldn’t understand why people loved them, until I found the one and got it. Now I am addicted. You do have to train your brain though.

I hear you with those fireworks. Luckily they do the program around 9pm, then it’s pretty much over for the night, thank goodness. Kudos on the new job that you picked up, and yay to Jill Shalvis that you picked up. Hugs, RO

Ooh, Wrapped Up in You looks SUPER CUTE. I am excited to get caught up on your reviews from last week. I feel like the week definitely got away from me! I am 100% the same way about the fireworks right now. I was like, well, I’m getting older, and this is getting so well past annoying. Plus, it makes me dogs really scared and unhappy so I’m just like, okay fireworks, go away PLEASE.

Happy July! Yes, the dreaded fireworks, so fun to watch, but so disruptive to my sleep, pets and wildlife. I hope people are responsible with their fireworks and don’t start any fires.

  5. ShootingStarsMag

I like fireworks, but yeah, not so late into the night…and not for so long. Do it around the holiday and we’re good. I guess it’s good my dog doesn’t hear as well, because at least she won’t be freaking out this year.

  6. Marti

I’m not a fan of fireworks either, especially because my pets get really scared, but also the noises –‘
Anyway, have a fun 4th of July and a great week!

  7. Christy

I’ve always loved fireworks on the 4th, but it’s annoying af when people do it for weeks. Hope they don’t get too bad for you guys.

  8. Lark @ The Bookwyrm's Hoard

I agree re the fireworks. I heard the first few go off in our neighborhood late last night. I don’t mind it on the 4th, but I wish people would confine it to that. Especially because there are a lot of veterans with PTSD who have a tough time coping with loud bangs.

Enjoy the new Jill Shalvis! I just got it, too.

My family used to have huge 4th of July parties with lots and lots of people, plenty of food and games, And fireworks for days. Illegal one and legal. . All safely done and not in the hands of children. Pretty much everybody that lived near us came for the show. Now all these years later and 12 years since my Dad passed away (his Birthday was on the fifth)I don’t care if I hear another one. Just stop by 11 pm and I’m fine. After that, nope! I do miss the old days but not enough to reminisce with all the loud noise!

  10. Lindsi

I hate all holidays that invite people to use fireworks. They wake me and the kids up, which isn’t good for anyone, and the dogs are terrified of the loud pops and booms. Like you said, if it was relegated to only one day, and they stopped after a certain time, that’s one thing. But people are already buying and using fireworks, and at ALL hours of the night. We had a burn ban one year, so no one was allowed to do fireworks… it was bliss.

I haven’t been able to get sufficient time to write a Sunday Post this week – bad luck about the fireworks… we have the same nonsense around Guy Fawkes Night, when for the surrounding three or four weeks, the neighbourhood erupts into what sounds like WWIII. Thank goodness the grandchildren are now older! I hope it isn’t too dire this time around… Have a good week, Kimberly:)

  12. Sophia Rose

LOL, I’m old, too. I don’t mind the fireworks as long as they’re done before midnight. I’m used to Saturday night fireworks every week out at the race track which I can also hear the cars zooming around the track, too. But, yeah, the big illegal ones do make one jumpy. 🙂
Where my folks live in Utah, they also get the Pioneer Days fireworks around July 25 so basically its boom and pop from just before the 4th until the 25th. Poor things! 🙂

    Have a good week, Kimberly!

Oh yes that’s right! The 4th of July is around the corner! The first time we went to the USA we were in San Francisco and we were amazed by all the patriotism Kimberly! Now of course if you can’t sleep I guess it’s a burden more than anything else …
Oh and you are right about the narrator of Dev1at3, I just listened to the excerpt and she is good!

  14. Jinjer

Some fools in our neighborhood started the nightly fireworks last week and have been setting them off every week around 10pm. We are in the woods so in addition to the dogs and cats, I feel bad for all the wildlife.

  15. Lola

I totally understand. I am not a big fan of fireworks in general. but don’t mind fireworks if it’s limited to the day they’re supposed to go off and not those loud booms in the middle of the nights. Here we don’t have 4th of July, so luckily the fireworks are only around new year’s eve. Good luck with your audio blitz! Have a great week and I hope you have a fun 4th of July.

  16. Rachel

Those unexpected bangs really can scare you. Hope they keep it to a minimum. I really enjoyed Justified. Hope you did, too, Kimberly. 🙂

  17. Jolene Wilson

Our state made fireworks legal last year and it has been a nightmare. My dogs hate it and there were so many missing dogs after the fourth of July! Hopefully, People will keep their dogs inside this year so they don’t run off scared. And the poor veterans! I know it causes them stress too.

  18. Kelly

I hate fireworks. I like them if they’re professionally done, but the ones people set off just drive me crazy. Plus, my cats hate them and I get anxious when my cats get anxious. Here’s to getting through the next week!

I’m not a fan of all those loud fireworks. If it’s July 4th, I’m okay with it for one day but not the days leading to it or the ones after it. Fortunately, it’s been so hot that we’ve needed a/c and all our windows are closed. That helps. The Jill Shalvis book looks so good. Enjoy and have a great week!

  20. Mary @StackingMyBookShelves!

Sorry, I have been missing from the blogging world. I love fireworks but agree with you, 11pm is the cutoff – we don’t need this crap all day and night. Ughh, I am old too. I hope it isn’t that bad this year for you. My dogs, of course, freak out from it too. I hope you are doing great! I have to get back at it this week so expect to see me commenting around. =)

  21. Nick

Oh man, I forgot that 4th of July is this week! That’s why I’ve been hearing fireworks at random hours of the night. Ugh. I hope it doesn’t get too bad, but who are we kidding?
I got the Shalvis book too! I’m so happy she’s still continuing the series, but Kim, can you believe it’s already time for Christmas books to go up on review copy sites?

  22. Jessica @ a GREAT read

That would bother me too if they were going on nearly all night! Fireworks are illegal in my neighborhood, so not too many risk setting them off. There are some, granted, but not a whole lot.

Nice new read! That’s a new to me one! I hope you love it!

    Here’s my StS

    Have a GREAT day!

    Old Follower 🙂

  23. Suzanne @ The Bookish Libra

I’m with you on the fireworks. They started here last night and I’m sure we’ll hear them every night until well after the 4th. Congrats on your audio blitz! I hope everything goes smoothly.

  24. Nicci @ Sunny Buzzy Books

I don’t mind fireworks but I hate how scared animals get by them. Plus, it’s really inconsiderate to be setting them off that late when people may have young kids trying to sleep… Or be trying to sleep themselves!

I hope you enjoy your 4th of July regardless of the fireworks. 🙂

Here in the UK we get the same thing on New Year’s Eve and I must admit more and more people set off fireworks throughout the year for their “special occasions” *sigh* but we supposedly have an 11pm legal cut off. I feel for you, Kimberly.

As the Hash Tag Hunt isn’t in my genre, I wont sign up this time but when you get non YA or New Adult Paranormal Romance and Urban Fantasy then count me in!! It’s very exiting.

  26. Maureen @ Maureen’s Books

You definitely don’t sound old! We have always a lot of fireworks around New Year’s, and although I love it for that purpose it drives me crazy the days before. I hope it wont be as bad the upcoming days! Happy 1st of July 😉

  27. Deb

Hello stranger! I did an ‘end of first six months of 2019 wrap up post’ so linked it up. Am on my phone though so it might not have worked!

Almost forgot 4th July was coming up. Fireworks galore!

  28. Greg

I personally can’t believe June is almost over! wow this month went fast. And 4th of July is almost upon us! The fireworks are already starting to go off around here lol. I’m with ya on that, I am not amused when they’re still going off at 2 am!!

Anyway have a good weekend 🙂

I’m the same re cost of fireworks Lexxie. I worked in developing countries years ago and still remember a lengthy discussion we had about fireworks – their cost vs the joy the organisers thought people would get from them!

I do understand where they were coming from but it was a lot of money which could have been better spent!
