DEATH DEFIES HER . . .
Vampire hunters Jess Vandermire and John Brittain are supposed to be relaxing in the City of Lights while Jess’s brother, Regent, a Catholic priest, fulfills a three-month assignment. Only their time in Paris so far has been anything but a vacation…

Last month, they managed to put down a demon uprising, but that’s nothing compared to what’s going on now. There’s a serial killer on the loose, the vampires are on the verge of civil war, and behind it all, there’s a secret society pulling the strings. If that isn’t bad enough, Jess’s newfound twin sister is stirring up trouble everywhere she goes.

But Paris is a dark place, alive with shadows of the past. If Jess and Britt don’t find some answers soon, mankind could become enslaved forever….

City of Bones—some secrets don’t stay buried...

We are back in Paris with Jess, John and her brother Regent in Silenced by the Grave the second novel in the City of Bones urban fantasy series.

Because of overall arcs, this series is best read in the order of their release.

After the heart-pounding ending of Graves of Wraith, the first book things have quieted down a little or perhaps not. Regent is trying to translate an old text he discovered under the church, John is discovering some additional angelic abilities and Jess is struggling with her new found sibling.

It isn’t long before their friends in the Paris police department pull them in to assist with a serial killer loose in the tunnels. A secret society and a vampire civil war create danger, fuel hatred and pull Jess, John and Regent into their power struggle.

I struggle a little with Jess and her “I am evil” persona. She battles and kills vampires who harm humans or disrupt the delicate balance. Perhaps its an inner struggle because she hates vampires but I think it’s time she suck it up and get on with it. LOL Thankfully these “woah is me” moments of self loathing are few and far between in an otherwise suspenseful and engaging plot.

The Ravens and paintings in the Louvre I loved and the thread regarding the strange textbook and who it was written by had me enthralled. I could read a whole series on the things Regent, the Catholic Priest, and Samson the scientist were working on.

The evil sister and their history really intrigues me as do the Watchers. I hope we get answers in the final book of this trilogy. While threads are concluded, we still have active ARC threads and I am excited for the next book. Something a child says sets the stage for the next book in the City of Bones.

Fans of suspenseful paranormal urban fantasy will enjoy Silenced by the Grave and the City of Bones trilogy.

Good play on the title of the book. I like it. It does sound interesting. I will have to add this series to my list. I love suspenseful paranormal – is there any other kind? Of course, there is but that is the best in my opinion.

This sounds like an exciting series with lots of interesting paranormal stuff. I will have to try and check it out!

I love a good urban fantasy with mystery and suspense. I think I’d struggle a bit with Jess’s “I am evil” persona since it doesn’t seem there’s a clear reason for her feelings of self-loathing, but the other elements sound interesting enough that I’d be willing to give this a try.

I’ve only read one real Urban Fantasy (which I’m pretty sure was your doing!) but I really enjoyed it and have wanted to read more. I like the setup on this one and it sounds like the first book might be a good one to add to my TBR.
