The New York Times bestselling author of The Other Lady Vanishes sweeps readers back to California in the 1930s in this all-new novel.

An ex-trapeze artist walks the tightrope between desire and danger as she is caught up in the mysterious circumstances surrounding the onstage death of an inventor. The race is on to find his missing invention before others, who are willing to kill for it, find it first. Once again, the resort town of Burning Cove is the center of deception and intrigue in this thrilling new novel from New York Times bestselling author Amanda Quick.

Tightrope by Amanda Quick brings us back to Burning Cove. Espionage, obsession, and romance await you in this 1930s historical romantic suspense.

This is the third book in the Burning Cove series but each book can stand on its own.

We meet Amalie Vaughn an ex-trapeze artist who has recently bought the hotel where Madame Zolanda met her timely demise. One of her guests is murdered. Not a good way to begin a business. It also brings Matthias Jones a consultant for Luther’s firm to investigate. Rumors link Luther to some unsavory friends and business practices. Matthias comes from an unusually family tree, and fans of the Arcane Society series will recognize it.

Amalie and Matthias were enjoyable characters. Their back and forth banter, mutual respect and acceptance provided a nice romance against the incredibly busy happens of Burning Cove. We see Luther and Raina from Vanishing Games and even get a little time with, Oliver and Irene, our first couple in the series.

Dr. Norman Pickwell is murdered on stage by an unlikely suspect, Amalie’s past is closer than she thinks and an aging film star all added to a suspenseful plot with plenty of action and an ending that completely took me by surprise.

While at times it felt like there was a lot going on, it did help to build suspense and kept me from guessing the person responsible for Pickwell’s murder. It was all rather clever. Bravo Quick (Krentz)!

I’ve never read this author and I have to say a trapeze artist or ex one is a very interesting occupation for main character! It’s good you were able to catch up with previous characters also. Glad it was a good one for you, although the inventor probably didn’t think so!

Hmm…. I was curious about this one, but I think i am going to pass. I struggle with historical novels and if this one has too much going on at times…

I’m glad you enjoyed this clever 1930’s murder mystery, and that the author was able to keep you guessing the whole way through! Wonderful Review Kim!

I was just looking at this one the other day and was wondering if it was any good. Sorry about my absence! We haven’t had internet all week! Ugh, we just finally got it back like 15 minutes ago, I’m so behind on everything now!
