Cold Brew Book Rec

It’s been a while since I’ve shared a Recipe & Book Recommendation. As I was making some fresh cold brewed coffee, it occured to me this is the perfect place to share my overnight recipe and offer up some reading ideas to enjoy on your deck!

I found this recipe in a magazine years ago and it’s so easy to make. Enjoy!

Overnight Cold Brewed Coffee

Ingredients:

Mason Jar

a fine sieve*

coffee grounds

water

How to Prepare:

Add 1/3 cup of coffee to 1 1/2 cups of water in a mason jar. Seal with lid and allow to steep overnight. Approx. 12 hours.

When ready to prepare cold brew, strain liquid removing grounds. Place aside or refrigerate until ready to use.

Fill a tall glass with ice. Next add equal parts cold brew coffee and cold water. This should be to taste. I tend to like mine stronger since I add creamer. Add creamer, sugar etc to taste. I like to use a little flavored creamer. Add a reusable straw and enjoy! Makes approx. 2 servings.

Books to Read on the Back Deck

The Bridal Test* by Helen Hoang made me laugh and if you’ve not yet read her debut novel, The Kiss Quotient* you are missing out. Swoons, humor and diversity. I will be sharing my review next week.

The Broken Girls* by Simone St. James was a creeptastic tale with a boarding school. A little mystery, suspense and paranormal woo-woo await you! You can read my review: HERE

If you love a good mystery and a historical setting you’ll want to dive into the Kat Holloway Mysteries beginning with Death Below Stairs* by Jennifer Ashley. The cook along with friends get into mischief and solve crimes! Check out my thoughts on the series: HERE

Fantasy your thing? Kill the Queen* the first in the first in the Crown of Shards series by Jennifer Estep. Book two, Protect the Prince* releases in July. Gladiators, Magic and Betrayal will have you screaming hells yes! Look for my review of book two shortly, but in the meantime you can read my thoughts on Kill the Queen: HERE

Catherine Ryan Hyde delivered a poignant, heartwarming, diverse story that moved me. I love books like this that stay with you, make you think and most of all fall in love with the characters. Look for my review of Have You Seen Luis Velez?* later this month.

Rachel Caine will make your heart-pounding in this thriller, Stillhouse Lake* and once you devour it, you can pick up the next books, Killman Creek* and the newest Wolfhunter River*. The fourth book Bitter Falls will release in January 2020. Read my reviews of the series: HERE

  1. Mary @StackingMyBookShelves!

I love Caine’s series and I have read The Broken Girls which I enjoyed. Yet it is Caines series that I will start with first to read. I am so sad it is ending. I also have Helen’s new one as I have adored The Kiss Quotient!

Oh I love the concept for this post! The only book on your recommendations list is Death Below Stairs and I absolutely loved it. I have Have You Seen Luis Valez on my TBR very soon and am really looking forward to it. And now I need some iced coffee!

  3. Kay @ It's a Book Life

I love the recipe and the theme, books to read on your back deck. I can’t wait until the weather is a little warmer and I can spend time outside with a book and my dog. I have already preordered The Bride Test and I can’t wait to read it next week. Kill the Queen sounds good too. 🙂

  4. Angie Elle

There are two books on your list I am dying to get to, so I’m glad to see you enjoyed them so much.

And YES! Kill the Queen is the perfect back deck read!

    Thanks for sharing.

I really want to try Helen Hoang books 😀 they look so good and I’ve been in a romance mood lately

I love cold coffee. I bought a cold coffee maker last summer, and I am looking forward to brewing more coffee this summer. I really want to read the Bride Test, didn’t get an ARC on hold at the library for the audio!

My husband loves cold brew coffee! I’m going to try your recipe Kim! I agree that The Bride Test is as perfect read for the back deck. I’m posting my review next week also. I’m looking forward to reading yours; you’re really good at reviewing :). I’m interested in The Broken Girls and StillHouse Lake!

I am so lazy, and this probably isn’t a good way of doing it, but I just brew a pot of coffee and put it in the fridge. I pour a cup and add my flavor and cream with ice. I wonder if doing it the way you described makes it tastier…

Not a coffee drinker – love the smell but hate the taste – I can’t imagine it tasting any better cold.

Your book choices meanwhile … I love the sound of The Broken Girls*. In fact I’m away to read your thoughts on it now.

i’m sadly not a fan of the cold brew, i find it on the sour side of things … maybe it’s the beans

Darling your blog is acting strange. It pops up then goes blank or shows only an Amazon ad in the corner and a crown.

  12. Genesis @ Whispering Chapters

The Broken Girls sounds so cool! And I need to read TKQ. I’m so behind!
And I’d sometimes do that with my cold brew coffee. But instead of water, I’d just use milk and no creamer. And like you, I preferred it stronger so I barely added any milk lol

The Broken Girls caught my attention with it’s fab cover and ohhh boarding school. I love that setting! The coffee brew sounds fab, now if only I had a deck 😀 Guess they’ll work in my back garden too though!
