Hey, it’s snowing! That’s because it’s November and the #HoHoHoRAT begins in just six days! For the month of October I read/listened to 21 books and have read 226 of 250 books towards my  Goodreads challenge.

This was a good week, busy but good. Halloween was lovely and all of my peeps came for pizza, the bonfire, and trick or treating. Friday morning when my daughter dropped the Royals off before work, she asked me to take a look at the Prince. Apparently the night before he lost his balance and fell from the sofa. Not a great height, but he cried and fussed about his leg hurting then proceeded to play. However, he would periodically fuss about walking.  He did the same at my home and I knew something wasn’t right.  I advised her to call the pediatrician. My motto is better safe than sorry. She did and after a series of questions they sent him to the children’s hospital. There was no bruising or swelling but if I touched a certain spot high on his leg he said boo-boo.

Our little man broke his femur!! Honestly, I expected her to call and say he sprained his groin or pulled a muscle. I thought the femur bone was hard to break, but the doctor and of course our friend Mr. Google assured us that it is quite common for children six months to three years to fracture it.

Now he is in a spica cast for five weeks! He’ll celebrate his 2nd birthday in this contraption. Google it…it’s horrible and the whole diaper thing…   ?  We ended up having the Princess most of the weekend so the kids could focus on the Prince. They had to sedate him to put the cast on and did it Saturday morning. Then meetings with physical therapist and a fitting for a special car seat. This Nonna is tired physically and emotionally and I am sure his parents feel the same. Send coffee and Stay Caffeinated.

I wish you had some kind of button that would take me straight to where I can comment. I am shocked at his cast. They had to cast that much? Poor baby. Is he even able to urinate in that?
My youngest has been in the emergency 3x before she was three. So I know how stressful it is to have something wrong with your child and trying to it better.

  2. Tizzy

Aww, poor little lad! That cast looks so uncomfortable and awkward. I hope he recovers well and is soon running about again.

  3. Lorna

I knew he has broken it, but didn’t realize all he went through. I feel for him and all his caretakers. I used to babysit a little girl who was hit by a car and had one of those contraptions, but it was down both legs. It was horrible. Kids are pretty resilient, but still. I hope you all have a better week and that the prince feels better.

  4. Tanya @ Girl Plus Books

Oh my goodness, your poor grandson! Thank goodness you advised calling the pediatrician so he could be checked. He must be a little trooper because he doesn’t even look too worked up in that pic. I imagine it’s going to be a challenging five weeks. 🙁

Oh my goodness! The poor Prince! I hope he heals up fast! Isn’t it amazing how some mega tumbles for kids don’t result in anything and then other simple falls can break something? I always thought that was weird about my kids. Hugs to you and your family.

It amazes me how resourceful kids can be, and despite the pain, looks like his gorgeous smile is still intact. Hope the time goes fast so things are back to normal soon. Sending some healing hugs your way! RO

I’m so sorry to hear about your grandson’s injury. My son broke his arm when he was four. I thought he had just fallen down, and he didn’t cry. But while he was in school the teacher noticed that he was holding his arm and refusing to use it. We took him to the doctor and he had broken his arm in two places! Wishing you, and your family, well.

  8. MarthaE

Oh dear! I am so sorry to hear of the little prince having this cast.
Ho!Ho!Ho! is coming in a week? After missing Fraterfest due to no internet I am not sure if I am ready for HOHOHO. I don’t think I ever did my sign up post. I do have books lined up though. 🙂
You sure have a good book haul this week. Happy Reading!

  9. ShootingStarsMag

Oh gosh, your poor grandson!! I really hope that he’s not in the cast for too long. It just looks miserable, but he’s so adorable in that photo!!! I’m glad that Halloween was fun though!

Awww, poor little Prince! Hope he heals nicely. So sorry, Kim that he’s suffering. Good thing you insisted on the Doc check. Love the snow falling here at Kimba and that can only mean the Season is quickly coming upon us.

Holy snikies! Poor kiddo and poor parents and grands. I didn’t realize the femur was a common break for that age group. That child must have a high pain threshold to walk around even a little on it. Wishing you all well through diapering and clean up and all of it!

Nice stack you got read for the month toward your goal. You got quite a haul, too. I’ve got the Katie Ruggle and it will be a HoHoHoRAT read. 🙂

  12. Sandy @ Somewhere Only We Know

Aw poor Prince! That cast looks awful! I have a three and a one year old so I know how hard it is on ones that age not to be able to get around like they like. I’ll be praying for him (and all of you as caretakers). Hugs!

  13. SHA @ Book Princess Reviews

Twenty-one books in October, a great feat! Congrats!

Poor Prince, to think a fall from a sofa can result in such a severe injury (I didn’t realize the femur could break so easily either). I hope for an easy recovery.

& I can’t wait to dive into Bridge of Clay! I picked the book up last week and now it’s sitting on my shelf, calling my name. ❤️

  14. SJ

Oh poor baby! My daughter broke her leg when she was about that age, and it was horrible. I can’t image dealing with a cast like that. Hope this week is better.

  15. Jolene Wilson

You have a tough little grandson! Praying that he has a smooth recovery. I look forward to your thoughts on Nine Perfect Strangers. I have been anxious to read that one!

  16. Pixireads

OMG the poor prince! Sending happy and positive thoughts to you all. Also hoping his break is like when I broke my elbow – we were told 6 weeks in the cast and it was off in 3. Fingers crossed for you.

  17. A Voracious Reader

Poor little dude! This is one time I hope time flies by extra fast on purpose and not just flying by because it’s a dick. {{{posivibes}}} all around for everyone! And coffee. Lots of coffee.

  18. Lola

You’re doing great with your reading goal for the year. I already made my goal and am now hoping to get to the 100 books read for the year at least. I am glad to hear you had a fun Halloween.

I am sorry to hear the kid broke his femur, that sounds so unhandy and painful. I hope his recovery goes well. Have a great week!

  19. Nick

Oh no! Poor little dude! I love that he’s smiling though even with the cast on. Good luck with everything!
Your haul is very pretty too! Hope you enjoy all those books!

  20. Darlene

Poor little Prince 🙁 My niece was born with a dislocated hip. They didn’t notice it right away, except that the hip made a clicking noise when you lifted her legs to chance her diaper. She wasn’t abnormally fussy, you would think that she would be! She was in a spica cast for six months, and had to wear it all during the heat of the summer. Poor girl couldn’t be bathed. She was casted from hip to ankle with her legs in a horseshoe shape. That girl tried to pull herself up into standing position and, when the cast came off, she skipped the crawling stage and went right to walking. Yes, changing the diaper is a pain but I think the worst of it is not being able to bathe them. Warning: It gets stinky!

Wow, you got a ton of new books! Happy reading!!

Oh no! The Prince seems to be a trooper.

I also got the 8 audiobooks from the Holiday Tour and Giveaway. I’ll include them next week’s post. I can’t seem to keep up this work week at all.

Did you see there’s a new KU for $0.99 deal for 3 months for November? I hoped there might be since I did not read ONE single thing during my last trial. I got an email this morning. Well off to work I go. Anne – Books of My Heart

  22. Nadene

I am sorry to hear about Prince. He appears to be taking it like a trooper though. 21 books, wow I wish I had that ability.?

  23. Christine

Oh my heavens, the poor little guy! What a hard age to have to be in a cast like that! It’s amazing with little kids how something that didn’t seem so serious actually could be — and then the opposite, sonething that totally freaks out the grownups ends of being a big nothing — it’s so hard to tell, so I’m with you on the better safe than sorry philosophy! Good luck to all these next 5 weeks <3 <3

  24. Rachel

Oh my goodness! A femur break is a huge deal! But I suppose if he was walking on it, it had to have been a pretty slight break? That’s a blessing anyway. I hope he recovers quickly after the cast is removed. Those things are so awkward!

  25. Mary @StackingMyBookShelves!

OMG, that poor baby. Yes as an adult it is the hardest bone in the body to break. In children, they are still growing and the bone isn’t as hard yet (because of growth). I am so sorry for him. ughh. Get some rest and prayers for a speedy recovery.

  26. Evelina @ AvalinahsBooks

Oh wow, poor baby! It’s good at least that the younger the kid, the faster they heal… I can’t imagine staying in that cast even two days. Speedy recovery to him! Looks like a good sport, smiling 🙂

  27. Tonyalee

I saw the picture on Facebook last night; poor dude! I think of how we would be if we broke our femur, a little fussy is not it LOL. I am hoping for a fast recovery!!

    Excited for HoHoHoRAT this week!

  28. sjhigbee

Oh nooo… poor little chap! So sorry – it is always upsetting when the littles are poorly and sending virtual coffee in INDUSTRIAL quantities for the next few weeks of nappy-changing and keeping him amused while he is off his feet. Thank goodness the cast will be coming off before Christmas! Look after yourself, Kimberly…

  29. Michelle @Because Reading

OMG that poor baby. Kids are amazing, my daughter when she was 2 put her arm under the bed. The rest of the day she complained that it hurt but still played. When I got home from work my mom said she wouldn’t hold up her arm. When I touched it, I realized she dislocated it elbow which is also common in kids (Google is also an amazing thing, scary sometimes but amazing) She might have done it a few days ago and it popped back it only to dislocate completely that day. I just read what the cast was and I am thinking of you all. It looks like it will be a rough few weeks. Sending you ALL lots of hugs, positive vibes and Coffee. This will be one heck of a story to tell once its all done.

Hope this week is a wonderful week for you, Kim! Happy Reading!

That poor baby! The good news is that bones heal quickly when children are so young. One of my dad’s friends, 87 years old, broke his leg and had to be in a cast for three months. He is still walking with a cane.

  31. Maureen @ Maureen's Books

Ow that poor little guy. I’m so sorry!! I work with a lot of grown-ups who have femur fractures.. So I know it’s especially tough for a child. Thank god he can still smile!! I’m sending you guys lots of virtual hugs!!
I’m super excited about HoHoHoRAT! This year I’ll finally be able to participate the way I want to since I’m still on maternity leave.
I hope you’re able to relax today! 😉 Happy Reading!

Poor prince! Yet, he’s still smiling. Wow! I didn’t realize all the modifications needed, when a small child breaks a leg. I hope he heals quickly and without any issues. I am drooling over two of your books – Little White Lies and Nine Perfect Strangers. I am already on the list at the library for Strangers, and keeping my fingers crossed that they get Lies eventually. Can’t wait to read your reviews.

I’m so sorry for the little prince, it’s an awful looking cast. Hopefully the weeks will fly by, and it will heal quickly. The good thing is that kids bones do.
Yay It’s nearly HoHoHoRAT! I must go sign up.

  34. Jovita

Poor little guy, ouchy. What a terrible way to celebrate the big 2.

You had a wonderful month of reading in October 🙂 Have a lovely week.

  35. Michelle Gilmore

Poor little guy! I hope he heals up quickly and properly so he can get back to running around again and so you guys can get a bit of a rest.

  36. Greg

Oh my- poor guy! That’s gotta be tough. Sending lots of coffee your way! And hoping he has a quick recovery.

I need to get my books finalized for the HoHoHo Rat!

  37. Tressa @ Wishful Endings

Oh, goodness! I fell for you and your daughter and grandson! My daughter broke her fibula when she was 20 months while I was 7 months pregnant with her brother and while we were on vacation in San Diego. We had to take her to an urgent care there. It was quite an experience. Thank goodness she just had a leg cast, but I had all sorts of fears. She had just started to dance and run really well and it was hard to carry her with a cast having a big baby bump and I was worried it was going to damage her or she was going to miss that stage of her life, but it was amazing that she learned to live with it, almost like it bothered me more than it did her. Still kind of makes me tear up even now – that whole process and stage. She got the cast off just a little before the baby came. Still. It’s painful to go through and his cast and where her has the break is much more difficult than what she had. I hope it goes well. Thank goodness they heal quickly.

  38. Literary Feline

How awful for the little one! I am imagining the diaper changes and they aren’t pretty. I feel for the parents and you as well. I hope it heals well. Looks like you have some great books to read. Take care and have a great week.

  39. Laurel-Rain Snow

Oh, no, poor baby! And how challenging it will be to care for him, too.

Enjoy your books, and congrats on your great month of reading. I have pre-ordered Nine Perfect Strangers…can’t wait to read it.

21 books-that would be a record for me! I’ve been all about the podcast lately. I’m actually talking about this new podcast I discovered on my blog today by Levar Burton.
