It’s St. Patrick’s Day and Holly’s feeling lucky…

At least, right up until a dead body shows up in the woods behind the esteemed Beechwood Manor.

With the townspeople distracted by a mysterious shamrock-themed scavenger hunt, everyone seems content to chalk up the death as a tragic hunting accident. But when the clover-shaped clues lead back to the crime scene, things take a deadly turn.

With a rogue leprechaun on the loose and something sinister lurking on the edges of town, it’s up to Holly to stop the murderer and keep secret paranormal powers from swallowing up the sleepy town she's grown to love.

Lucky Witch is the fifth novel in the Beechwood Harbor Magic Mystery series by Danielle Garrett. Once I again I grabbed my headphones to listen to Amanda Ronconi, bring these characters and small-town to life.

Because of the developments and overall arc of the series, I recommend listening to them in the order of their release. I really enjoy this series. It offers supernatural creatures living in a seaside human community. All of them live at Beechwood Manor, a halfway house owned by a ghost. Our heroine, Holly,  is a witch and local barista who makes potions on the side but moonlights as a detective of sorts.

Lucky Witch picks up a little while after the events of Witch Way Home. A werewolf infected Nick, the towns private eye and he will soon undergo his first transformation. Only something goes horribly wrong.

Lots of mysteries to keep Holly, Nick while keeping the folks at the manor on edge. Police discover a dead body in the woods behind the manor.  Someone is leaving shamrocks with clues to a scavenger hunt all over town and someone is stealing and moving gnomes all over town. Oh, and there are reports of a little green man being spotted all over town.

Then we have trouble with Holly and Adam’s relationship. Not to mention things are up with our vamp. Yep, just another quiet week for Holly. Humor, suspense and classic whodunit with a little paranormal woo-woo made for a fun installment.

Suspense, character growth, an intriguing love development and change as the series moves forward. I had wondered if this was the last of the series, but its clear there will be more.

I must confess. I got a little annoyed at Holly. No one can be that obtuse. I don’t think she realizes what others can see about another or even herself. We see growth and an interesting career development for her.

Amanda Ronconi has become a favorite narrator. I love both her male and female voices. Her pacing and ability to capture both the humor and suspense enhance the story. At around six hours, this series is perfect for listening on your commute.

Fans of cozy mysteries with paranormal elements, humor and a close-knit community will enjoy Lucky Witch and the Beechwood Harbor Magic Mystery.

I love all the little busy sideline stuff you mention that add to the story around the mystery. Sounds quirky and fun. I’ve got this series marked for when I can get to it.

Hmm….I was thinking as I read your review that thsi sounds like a fun, light cozy series, but then when I read the line about Holly being annoying because she is obtuse, I was not so sure…
