His only goal was survival until he met her...

With nothing to lose, former cop Damon Winter agrees to an undercover op, infiltrating a cult in the dangerous post-Scorpius world. After one look at his new partner, he knows she belongs far away from not only the cult, but from him. She's sweet and kind and has no business being in peril, but she's determined to help. Suddenly, the part he's playing as her man explodes into a passion neither of them had expected.

She hadn't purposefully faced risk until she met him...

April Snyder has survived loss, pain, and uncertainty. Now she's ready to live again. There's nothing left but to make a difference for others, so why not go undercover in the cult? Now all she has to do is keep it professional and ignore her handsome, deadly, overbearing partner, who's too sexy for her peace of mind. Intrigue, risk, and danger make for an irresistible temptation--until enemies close in, threatening everyone they've sworn to protect.

apocalypse hot SUSPENSE ADDICTIVE

Not sure if I missed this on NetGalley. I have enjoyed uplifting this series and snagged a copy at release. I didn’t want this to get lost in my giant TBR pile, so I made it my first book for the Take Control of your TBR pile challenge. Winter Igniting by Rebecca Zanetti is the fifth novel in the post-apocalyptic, romantic suspense series, Scorpius Syndrome. ARC development, a passionate romance, and trouble made for an intensely addictive read.

In Winter Igniting the Mercs and Vanguards have merged at the Vanguard compound out of necessity.  You could feel the tension and lack of trust between them.  It was interesting seeing how things played out.  Meanwhile, the questions surrounding Pastor King and his group of Pures living within the compound continues to raise concerns and in this episode, we find out more.

April Snyder has lost everything to the Scoripus Syndrome. She works with the children within the compound and is one of only a few uninfected women who have yet to join the Pure.  Pastor King and his group are courting her making her the perfect uncover op. Damon Winter, a former cop and second in command for the Mercs is also uninfected so he is assigned to team up with her. To get inside the Pure, Damon and April fake a relationship, but Damon makes it clear from the start he is very attracted to April.

It was fun watching these opposites come together. I could easily relate to April who has only ever loved one man. I felt her inner struggles at not only developing feelings for Damon but dealing with his Alpha tendencies and dangerous missions. Damon was open, sexy and all male, but I appreciated his insight and patience with April.

The overall ARC dealing with the crazed President, finding info from the secret compounds and investigating the Pure all came to a head in this fifth novel. While the series is far from over, we do finally get some answers and plenty of intense action scenes that placed everyone in danger. The world is still a perilous place, and it is not a question of how they will survive but if.

The world and tension make love, friendship, and family the things each man and woman hold tight to. All of these elements create an addictive read. The little girl who doesn’t speak, but seems to know things continues to intrigue me, and I loved her scene with Damon.

Winter Igniting was another addictive and intense story in the Scorpius Syndrome series. Ths is the perfect read for fans of darker romantic suspense, post-apocalyptic worlds and Alpha males who aren’t afraid to spank you. While each book contains one couple’s romance, it is essential to read these books in the order of release to understand the overall arc.

Winter Igniting by Rebecca Zanetti is the fifth novel in the post-apocalyptic, romantic suspense series, Scorpius Syndrome. ARC development, a passionate romance, and trouble made for an intensely addictive read. #romanticsuspense… Click To Tweet

When I saw a POC on the cover I was immediately drawn to your review because I am all for representation! I have read a lot of apocalyptic books and this one sounds like it is going to be good! I like the sound of the suspense and mystery being so well developed as well. I’m visiting your blog and my TBR is already growing so much xD

I love this series. It is a favorite. I can’t wait to read this one. I didn’t see it on NetGalley either. I just bought it too. Now I just need to find time to read it. I’m still having a hard time reading right now. I’m reading Masked Desire. I’m enjoying the story, but having a hard time reading in general.

Yeah, I think this one was indie. Glad you are a fan too 🙂 Ooo I feel ya. I’ve been so tired at night that it is taking me forever to read. I am able to listen though.

Wow… this sounds like a lot of fun. I want to know more about this compound… and how both April and Damon are still unaffected… fab review!

This has lots of elements I would like. I may want to try book one.
Glad you are enjoying the series.

  5. Mary @StackingMyBookShelves!

Now this sounds like a great romantic suspense. I haven’t read anything by this author. Would this be a good stand alone or something you should start from the first in the series. I love apocalyptic books. So, YES to this!

I must have missed this on NetGalley as well – and now, of course, I have to buy it straight away. This series is one of the most realistic post-apocalyptic series I have read when it comes to why things happened, and how humanity is on the decline in my opinion.
I’m glad you enjoyed it, Kim.
    I hope you’ll have a fantastic Friday!

  9. Samantha

I think I started this series and book one didn’t work for me. However, it sounds so interesting that maybe I should give the series another shot!

For some reason, this one never got offered on NetGalley. You remind me, though, I bought it when it released and need to get busy. I love this world and the characters.

You know I have so many sub-piles in my ginormous tbr pile that it almost needs its own zip code LOL
Zanetti is one of those authors whose somewhere on the pile and I’m going to take one for the team to go in and put her higher. 😉

Post-apocalyptic usually makes for quite an exciting read, so I might decide to give this series a go and see if it works better than the other I tried! Glad you loved it 🙂

  13. JoLee

She is my favorite author but have yet to try this series. Love her alpha males. I have to be in the mood for a post-apocalyptic. Never read that genre. I am thinking RZ is the author I am trying first.
