Sunday Post

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted here @ Caffeinated Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news~ A post to recap the past week on your blog and showcase books and things we have received. Share news about what is coming up on our blog for the week ahead. See rules here: Sunday Post Meme

Our weather warmed up this week and the Royals and I got to play outside. I hurt my knee (pulled ACL) last weekend moving those bedrooms, but it was wonderful sitting outside. It has me wanting to brew iced coffee. This was another frustrating week with the blog. Complex and Brute Force attacks kept my security plugin working double time and slowed the site to a crawl for real people! Thursday for most of the day I couldn’t even log on. Some asshats in Ashburn with 512 different IP addresses were crawling my site looking for a way in. I’ve got them blocked and added to the long list of complaints filed against them.  I am moving to a new host on Monday, one that offers server-side security and will keep my site blazin’ fast. *fingers crossed* I tell you, if this doesn’t work, I am considering closing shop. I love blogging and plan to continue 4ever, but this is a headache. I listened to several audiobooks, but it took me all week to read one book. A really good book. My mind is fried.  I hope Spring visited you and sticks around.  Stay Caffeinated!

Sorry to hear you hurt your knee amd about those attacks on your blog! Hope the new host works much better! I also got LIFEL1K3! Cannot wait!

  2. Laurel-Rain Snow

Oh, I hope you get your blog issues sorted!

I had to laugh at your Totally Random…I fight that arch-nemesis every morning!

Enjoy those books. I like the look of Love & Other Words.

  3. Dani @ Perspective of a Writer

Aww I’m sorry to hear all the trouble you’re having! I was locked out last week and freaked out before getting back to the keyboard and doing searches until I figured out what to do. I hope the move is smooth! ♥️

  4. Greg

Yes!! I wore shorts and flip flops too, bring on summer! It was so nice today. The flip flops are NOT getting put away lol. Sorry to hear about the asshat attacks- that is so aggravating and wrong. Ugh. Hope your host switch over goes smoothly. Hackers like that are scum of the earth as far as I’m concerned.

Lifel1k3 looks promising, after finishing Obsidio I’m thinking about reading more of Kristoff’s stuff. And love that random! So true!!

  5. JJ @ This Dark Material

What could they even want with a book blog?? (I am, obviously, not very in tune with the motivation of mysterious hackers.) I’m so sorry they’ve made this week a headache for you. But hooray for pleasant weather at least! I hope you get to make that iced coffee soon. Lifel1k3 sounds interesting, so I’m looking forward to seeing what you think of it.

  6. Andreea

I hope your knee is doing fine now. But it’s nice that the warm weather is finally there – we had it all month and the energy it gave me is amazing!

Sorry to hear about the blog troubles, but hopefully it will be better with the new host. Do not give up!!

  7. Michelle Gilmore

I am sorry you are having blog issues again. Hopefully you can find a host that works well for you.
We are bouncing back and forth between light spring weather and mid-summer weather. It’s hard to know if you’ll be freezing at 1 pm or too hot to live when you get dressed in the mornings.

I hope you get the rest you need and that the blog situation is handled.

  8. Lindsi

Good luck switching your site over! I know that can be stressful! You’ve worked so hard for and don’t want anything to disappear–I’ve been there recently, lol. I’m sure the transition will be smooth and everything will work out great!

We’re having hot summer weather, but it’s Texas. <3

    Do You Dog-ear?

  9. Ardis @ Pondering The Prose

I am so sorry you are having to deal with security attacks! Those things scare me so much, as I don’t know what to do to avoid them. Please let everyone know if the new server works better (I may be tempted to move as well). I also got the new Jay Kristoff book, Lifelike! I really hope you can continue blogging, I really love your posts.

  10. Tressa @ Wishful Endings

Glad your weather has turned nice and you got some relaxing in. I hope your knee will heal quickly.

That is terrible about the blog! I’m always worried something will happen like that and I won’t be able to do anything about it. I’m curious who your host is now and who you think you might go with. If you’re okay sharing, let me know or shoot me an email.

  11. Blodeuedd

Well…I did wear a dress outside! But that was that it is really warm on our patio 😉 So not shorts weather as you guys had, lol.

  12. Evelina

OMG, that is scary that people would do that… trying to mess with the blog, I mean. But don’t ever stop blogging please!

  13. Astrid @ Vanilla & Spice Books

Ack. What’s the point hacking into a blog? I hope that moving to a new host will help! Good luck with the move.
Looking forward to your review of The Good Luck Sister. I loved that one!

    That random is so true.

    Have a great week!

  14. Jenea’s Book Onsession

Oh no! I’m sorry to hear about your knee. I’m sending healing thoughts you way. What a mess with the wanna be hacker and your site. Hopefully this new hosting company will have much better security for you. Enjoy your nice weather. I’ve got all my sandals and flip flops ready here. Were in the 80’s this week. Yay!

  15. Sam@WLABB

Hope you knee is feeling better. Nothing like some sunshine to improve your day. I cannot even understand why someone would want to spend all day trying to hack a book blog. A bank account or a credit card, sure they get money, but a book blog? Sorry you have suffered this attack.

  16. sjhigbee

Well that is horrible! I’m so sorry you are having such trouble with hackers – I think they should be hung up by their thumbs, personally. Hope the knee also feels better soon, I know what a painful injury that is… All in all, Kimberly – I hope next week is a BIG improvement!

  17. Cindy

So sorry to hear about the attacks on your site, that is horrible and frustrating! I hope the new site works for you and I really hope that you never close shop 🙁 Have a wonderful week!

  18. Cahleen @ The Alt Story

That is so annoying! Fingers crossed that the new host can allow you to just enjoy blogging without having to deal with all this other stuff. I have to say, something about the alliteration of “asshats in Ashburn” made me smile.

  19. Laura Thomas

The weather here is gorgeous. Got my pool all ready to go and even took a dip or two. It was so nice to sit outside and read. And I dusted off my rainbow collection of flip flops! LOL
Sorry about the asshats, Kim, I sure hope the new hosting will fix that particular pain in the patootie. Take care of that knee. And that quote is so me. LOL

  20. Jessica @ a GREAT read

Technology always gives me a headache! Especially when it comes to spammers and computer virus people! Ack. It’s one long headache! I hope you get things worked out though! And yay for warmer weather! Ours is starting to warm up too, but then they still like to warn us of frost warnings at night. So we’re not quite out of the woods yet! Lol!

Yay for new books!! I got Aftermath as well and read that one pretty quickly! Love Kelley’s books! Hope you enjoy your new reads!

    Here’s my STS

    Have a GREAT day!

    Old Follower 🙂

  21. Suzanne @ The Bookish Libra

Good luck with your site move and I really hope it solves the issues that you’re having with the brute force attacks. Those are so annoying and so unnecessary. Why do people have to be such assholes?

I hope you get to enjoy that iced coffee and that your knee feels better soon!

  22. A Voracious Reader

Grrrrrrrr on the blog issues! I hope the move goes smoothly and the issues taken care of. Wouldn’t it be nice if we could brute force attack those asshats for a change? Spring has definitely sprung here. In fact, we may be moving directly to Summer this week as forecasts are calling for 80s. Wtf. Just…wtf. I hope your knee improves and your brain gets some rest, so that you may have a fantabulous week, Kim.

  23. Bookworm

I hope your knee feels better and that your computer issues are resolved, how annoying is that? I can’t stand people who do that stuff, just go away already.

And lol about sleeping in and having to pee. So true.
Enjoy you weather with the little ones and have a good week!

  24. Mary @StackingMyBookShelves!

OH NO you can’t stop blogging! I would cry! I am sorry you pulled your ACL. That must have been painful. I hope the move goes well and you than have no more problems with the blog and will not be frustrated. Here is to a better week.

    Mary

  25. Darlene

Good luck with switching hosts. That’s one of the main reasons why I haven’t wanted to self-host because of all the headaches! I just don’t have time for that. I realize that with Blogger that my blog could be gone tomorrow (that reminds me that I should back up!), but it’s pretty much hassle free for me.

Hope your ACL heals quickly! Now that the snow is all gone, I spent some time yesterday raking up the leaves at the very back that I never got to before the snow came. My shoulder was crying last night! Ugh, are we getting old?! Shhhh 🙂

Enjoy your new books! I really need to try Kelley Armstrong. I’ve read one or two from her YA series but I should read more!

  26. Rachel

Wow! I hope you get those frustrating host issues worked out. I know how frustrating that can be! And sorry about your torn ACL. Sounds like you’ve been having a bad couple of weeks! Good luck for the upcoming weeks to be much, much better.

  27. Yvonne

I’m sorry about your knee and your blog problems. I hope you are feeling better and that your blog problems get straightened out with a new host.

I do hope this is a better week for you.

  28. PixiReads

Sorry to hear about all the blog troubles you’ve been having. Hoping the hosting move helps! I also feel you on the reading troubles. It’s taken me a month just to get about 80% done with one book…mine however is not exactly a good book, but I’ve promised a review of it.

  29. Jolene

I haven’t worn flip flops yet. I am getting a pedicure on Wednesday then my feet will be flipflop ready! Hope you get your security issues worked out. What a pain to have to deal with that. I will pray it gets fixed. Enjoy your books.

  30. Jasprit

Oh that is really annoying having issues with the blog, we’re still on blogger, but have been considering moving to WordPress or elsewhere, but I wouldn’t be able to keep up, but I’m glad that you’ve got some of the issues resolved. Here’s hoping this week will be a less stressful week for you!

  31. Kristin @ AddictedtoHEA

Ashburn?!?! Where the hell is Ashburn??? And why you? I mean, you’re great and all but WTH??? So stupid!! I’ve never crawled on your site so I don’t know what the deal-e-o is. But moving is going to be awesome! I KNOW it!! Praying and crossing all my toes and fingers!!! HUG!!

    *crawls back into hole*

  32. Samantha

Ugh what a pain in the ass!! People suck sometimes. Hopefully the move goes smoothly and all is well going forward!
    Yay for nice weather though!

  33. Mandy

I’m glad the weather has been beautiful for you. I ended up in shorts this week too a few days. That’s so frustrating that you’ve been having ongoing blogging issues. I think it was Thursday that I popped over and it was buggy. I ended up coming back this weekend to see what you had been up to. I’m glad you had a great week with your audiobooks. I still have yet to get into them one of these days. I hope your knee feels better, and have a great week!!! Happy reading.

    • Kimberly

Yep, Thursday is the day they were hitting me hard. I think my Wordfence plugin was smoking. It took me half the day to block them. It was maddening.

  34. Kathy

Hi Kim! It’s been a while since I’ve stopped by. Sorry to hear about the site problems and I hope everything works out with your new host. Our weather has been warming up and I wore sandals to work. It felt so good lol. But now we have rain coming and it’s going to be uncomfortable wearing closed toed shoes lol. Hopefully both of our weathers stay warm. I hope your knee feels better and I hope you have a great week!

  35. Lark @ The Bookwyrm's Hoard

Wow! I’ve heard of denial-of-service attacks, but until now I’d only heard about attacks on company websites, not blogs. What a pain—I’m so sorry you’re having to deal with all that hassle! I guess any site with decent traffic makes a good target for these cretins.

I’m also sorry to hear about the ACL injury. That’s no fun! I hope it heals up soon. At least you got to enjoy some nice weather this past week. I hope there’s more sunshine in your future—both literal and metaphorical!

  36. LORI CASWELL

So sorry you are being attacked. Hacks are terrible, been there twice. On my old blog several years ago on a Blogger blog and it took forever to clean up. The last time my site provider TigerTech caught the hack within 2 minutes and had everything reset before I even knew I had been hacked. They are excellent. They are always strengthening their protections.

Hope you heal up quickly now that the nice weather has arrived.

  37. Anna

Glad you are able to enjoy the weather. In my neck of the woods it’s been mild for a while and I’m giving it no longer than a month to start getting unbearably hot. Loved your review of how to save an undead life. What a cool title!

  38. Laura@Library of Clean Reads

Oh no! You hurt your knee and you’re having hosting issues. That’s a bummer. I hope the new host resolves all your problems. I’ve been seeing Love and Other Words on other sites and I’m curious about it. Have a good week!

  39. Danielle

Do you often have security issues (well attempts like that)? That sounds incredibly stressful and frustrating! I would probably feel the same. I hope the list of complaints against them bring about some resolution.

I am hoping the knee is better soon. Happy to hear you enjoyed some nice weather though and hope it keeps up for you – xx

    • Kimberly

It comes in spurts, I constantly have to monitor traffic, spikes in memory etc and adjust my security features and blocks to counter it.

      • Danielle

That sounds like a real headache. I keep contemplating self-hosting but feel I do not have the time and mental capacity for reasons such as this. Hope it resolves soon!

          • Danielle

Yeah, that is what I am using at the moment. A premium based sub through WP. So far it provides most of what I need. The only drawback is limited plugins, but I may upgrade to solve that 😉

  40. Kristin (Book Sniffers Anonymous)

Oh my goodness. That’s scary! I hope my site is equip with strong enough security to block hackers. It sounds like your plug-in did a good job keeping them out though.

I hope you have a speedy recovery and are able to enjoy more of the nicer weather. 🙂

  41. Stephanie Jane

What a nightmare with your hosting. I hope you can find a fix soon and that your knee stops giving you jip. Glad you’ve got to flip flop season though. We’re back in dismal-grey in Torquay

  42. Sophie

Oh no!! This was a nightmare for you! I hate it when blogs are targeted by hackers and attacked by vile people. I hope your new host will have better security, Kimberley!

  43. ShootingStarsMag

Oh gosh, I’m sorry about all the blog trouble. I hope the move helps and makes it a lot better – I definitely don’t want to see you stop blogging anytime soon!!!

I got to sit outside a bit yesterday and it was so nice. 🙂

    -Lauren

  44. Katherine @ I Wish I Lived in a Library

Yay on warmer weather but that’s awful about the blog troubles and the ACL. I have tendinitis in one of my ankles and it’s so annoying when it flares up but I’ve heard an ACL is way more painful. I’m hoping your new company will do better security. We would miss you too much if you went away! Have a great week!

  45. Lily

I couldn’t log into my website last weekend either somehow my http got disabled and not sure how but I ended up having to change my password and Ashley was great at helping out…noooo don’t disappear forever D: maybe you should move to nose graze?

  46. Lola

Glad to hear your weather warmed up. Here we had colder weather again this week, so strange. i am sorry to hear about your blog troubles. All that struggles surrounding your blog and keeping your site running can be really frustrating at times and they take so much time too. Glad to hear you managed to listened and read a bit! Have a great week!

  47. Nicci @ Sunny Buzzy Books

Ugh! What is the point in cyber attacking a blog? Unless they’re planning to lock you out and ransom it back… Asshats. I hope the switch to a new server solves the problem and this week is better! 🙂

  48. Kat

Oof I’ve pulled my ACL before and I feel your pain, hope you feel better soon! I’m so sorry to hear about the server issues, hopefully the new move will solve the issues. Hope you have a much better week!

  49. Stefanie

Oh boy, they want in that badly to a book blog? What jerks. I’m sorry you have had such a headache to deal with. Sorry your ACL got injured. I hope it heals well and soon. How lovely you had the grandchildren over. My girls love going to my mum’s, especially the younger. They are spoiled when they go over and end up bringing home more than they had left with here.

  50. Tyler H. Jolley

Ugh, dude, that is so frustrating. I guess I don’t understand why they want to hack your blog? Just to be jerks? I’m so sorry that happened. I hope this coming week is better.

  51. Sophia Rose

Ow, just ow, on the ACL. I’m having empathy pains from over twenty years ago when I did it. And man, Murphy’s Law really slammed down with the cyber crud hitting you at the same time.

Man, that must be some book to keep you entangled all week. 🙂

Crossing fingers on the site move and that the rest of your week is more sitting in the sun in shorts and flip flops. 🙂

  52. Angela @ Angel's Guilty Pleasures

Sorry to hear about the blogging frustrations. I hope the new site works out for you. I like your book haul. I hope you enjoy them. That’s nice you got to enjoy some good weather. Many are still in cold, rain, and snow… ^_^ Me I’m one of the lucky ones and have been enjoying the outdoors more and more since April hit. Have a great week!!

  53. S. J. Pajonas

Omg, how frustrating that your site keeps getting attacked!! Have you tried Wordfence (the premium version)? I find that even the free version keeps back a lot of attacks and hacks. I may upgrade to premium at some point. Anyway, I’m glad you got the good weather too. We have several nice days this week and it was great to get outside!

    • Kimberly

I have Wordfence premium and they did a great job, but with over 512 IPs hitting my account every second it slowed the site down for over four hours until I could access my cpanel and block those addresses. I swear Wordfence was smoking it was working so hard. Hopefully with a managed host the server side protection will keep them from even touching my site and using my resources.

  54. Nise'

Hope your knee is recovering. Sorry about the server issues and hope the move helps with the problem. I left home for some warmer weather for the week! LOL It had better be nice when I get back.

  55. Chrissy

I hope your knee feels better! And I’m glad you got to go outside for a bit this week. Sorry about the asshat hackers. They suck. I’ve been contemplating upgrading to Wordfence Premium. It sounds like it is definitely worth it.

I hope you have a great week!

  56. MarthaE

Glad to hear that your weather is improving.
That is another hilarious Random image! Sorry to hear you are having such site issues. I hope the switch goes well. I have noticed a marked increase in spam comments on my blog. Very annoying.
You have several reviews and new books I am off to check out.
    Happy Reading this week!

  57. Lorna

Sorry about the attacks on your blog. You gotta wonder what their motivations are or are they just overly bright nerds with no life. But you have solved one mystery for me today. I got an answer from you for one of your posts from April 2014 this morning. I knew something must be happening. I guess your changeover caused it. Hope it all straightens out. And that your knee is feeling better.

    • Kimberly

Yes, when importing the comments we didn’t turn off something and yep, everyone including me got tons of email! Sorry about that. I sent announcements on Twitter and Facebook. (hides face in embarrassment)

  58. RO

Glad you got a chance to enjoy the weather, but my goodness, to have computer issues like this has to be a HUGE nightmare. Glad there’s light at the end of the tunnel sometime today! Hugs…RO

  59. Lover Of Romance

OH yuck about the pulled ACL….hope that heals up quickly.

I hear ya about hosting issues. Last weekend my site went down TWICE and boy was I frustrated. I haven’t had much security problems lately thankfully. Wordfence is my lifesaver. I hope the transition to a new host provider went smoothly,
