Just like snowflakes, no two sisters are alike, but that doesn't mean they can't work together to make the perfect snow day! A heartwarming sibling story from the illustrator of That's Me Loving You.

When snowflakes fall, two sisters react very differently. One is excited and the other is wary. The first sister spends the morning outdoors, playing until she's all tuckered out. Meanwhile, the second sister stays indoors, becoming ever more curious about the drifts outside. Soon, they switch places, and spend the second half of the day retracing each other's footsteps. But each sister puts her own unique spin on activities like sledding, baking and building.
The simple mirrored text is spare and lovely, and each spread is split to show what each sister is doing independently--until at last they come together in the sweet, satisfying conclusion. LeUyen Pham's Big Sister, Little Sister meets Kate Messner's Over and Under the Snow.

Snow Sisters! was written by Kerri Kokias and illustrated by Teagan White. It shares the story of a snow day for two sisters. I absolutely loved the illustrations for this story from the snow scenes to the cocoa. Snow Sisters highlights how two sisters who are very different spend their snow day. One is overly excited and goes immediately outside before coming in, baking and building a fort. The other prefers to cozy up with a book and hot cocoa before going outside to watch nature. It was a delightful story with simplified text allowing the pictures to do the talking. After their solo adventures, the girls come together and celebrate the snow. I loved the message that we can like different things and still be friends (sisters). Sophia loved the story and had fun pointing out things she liked. She did get a tad worried about the mess in the kitchen though.

The Littlest Viking was written by Alexandra Penfold and illustrated by Isabel Roxas. It shares what happens when the littlest Viking is no longer the smallest. In this tale, we meet Sven who sort of rules the roost as the youngest Viking. That is until a fair maiden arrives and soon everyone is paying attention to her. Only the newest addition to their clan is quite loud and nothing the other Vikings try seems to work. Until Sven steps up and shares stories with her. This was a cute story and perfect for little ones expecting a new sibling. The colorful illustrations of dragons, warriors and such will make any young boy squeal with delight. While the story is a familiar one, the Viking setting made it unique. I quite liked this and found it both familiar and refreshing.

Snow Sisters reminds me of my girls, Kimberly. 🙂 I think I’m going to have to start collecting books for my future grandchildren as my friends’ kids are getting too old for picture books. These both sound great and the illustrations are cute. Thanks for sharing!

Right. I saved favorites from my own children’s bookshelves and gave to them, but I wish I thought to do it sooner for the Royals. I did attend a baby shower recently and they asked for new or gently used books to build baby’s library and of course I was all over that 🙂
