Welcome to the Sixth annual Take Control of Your TBR Pile Challenge!
The rules are simple: for the entire month of March, you focus on reading/listening to books in your TBR pile released before March 1, 2018. They can be eBooks, physical books or audiobooks. Let’s clean off those shelves and finish those series and trilogies!
This is one of my favorite events as my to-be-read pile is often neglected. For those with a backlist of ARCs have no fear, as long as they have already published you can count them!
I will provide motivation with a grand prize of a new release of your choice. I am giving you time to clear your calendars and sort through your TBR piles by posting early, so no excuses..we can do this! Open to all participants as long as Book Depository ships to your address.
Are you ready to accept the Challenge?
See the rules, link-up and share with friends.
- Link-up! This is open to everyone. If you do not have a blog then link a shelf entitled Take Control 2018 from your Goodreads account. It is a good idea to friend me if your shelves are private.
- Create a Goals/Updates/Results post (can be combined) It can also be a shelf created on Goodreads. Be sure to friend me, so I can see it. Friend me: Kimberly
- Begins midnight March 1st, 2018 and ends March 31, 2018, at 11:59 pm.
- Read/listen to books from your TBR pile.
- ALL books/audios must have been published before March 1, 2018. I don’t care where you got them, so old ARCS count.
- Post a review to Goodreads, or your blog then add the URL link it to the Rafflecopter for an entry. ( These can be a mini review. Just one or two sentences)
- You can combine events, challenges etc.
- Page count must be over 100 pages to qualify.
- The rafflecopter will only allow you to enter up to two books daily, so update as soon as you finish a book.
- Use hashtag #TakeControlTBR
- Twitter Party March 11th @ 2:30 pm (CST) Come chat about books you have read and win prizes.
- Earn extra entries for participating in the Twitter Party
- Rafflecopter will close on April 2, 2018, at midnight and a winner will be chosen within 72 hours. Open internationally as long as Book Depository ships to you. Prize: New 2018 release valued at up to 20 US dollars or 1 Audiobook Credit from Audiobooks.com. I will do pre-orders as well. (may request eBook copy from Amazon or B&N)
Grabe the image and share the event. Just be sure to link back to this sign-up so your friends can join us!
Link up and commit to Taking Control
Sign-up closes on March 2nd.

A belated join in here because I didn’t spot the challenge in time. Hope it’s still ok to play?
Stephanie, I will manually add you to the link. Welcome.
Thank you so much Kimberly!
Yay, good luck everyone 🙂
And to you too!
Thanks. I hope you join in the fun 🙂
I love to do TBR challenges. Thanks for hosting!
Glad you enjoy them. Good luck Martha!
Lisa @ Captivated Reader

Sweet! Good luck Lisa!

PS I’ll post and link-up tomorrow because I actually read a book from my TBR list over the weekend!
Yay, glad you are joining in the fun 🙂

I really need to participate…what a great idea!!!! My goal for today is to go through my TBR stack and pull those books I most want to read. Thanks for hosting, and for the motivation!!!
I totally forgot about my sign-up post for Take Control! Will be doing that later today 🙂 🙂 And glad you are finally feeling better!!
LOL, no worries you can do a simple shelf on Goodreads 🙂
Ah I’m so torn whether to join or not – mainly because I’m terrible at posting reviews on time haha. I’m leaning towards joining atm…hmmm I’m awful at making decisions
No review on blog required. Just one or two sentences on Goodreads and marked as read 🙂 You can post to your blog later 🙂
Ha! I made it in time. Jumping onboard this challenge and hope I will be more successful than last year 🙂
Woot! Good luck Vi 🙂
Finally posted my tentative tbr for this challenge! Really excited for this! 😀
Wahoo! Yeah mine is tentative too as I am a mood reader 🙂
I’m looking forward to this challenge! We got this!! 🙂
Sweet. I am glad you are joining in the fun Brandee!
Do we link up the books we are hoping to read or just pick things as we go? I am a little confused as to where I would put the books from the TBR shelf in.
Hi Mary, You can share some you hope to read, but you can pick and choose as you go. If you are using Goodreads for the challenge just create a shelf called Take Control 2018, and as you read books check them as read and add to Take Control shelf.
Thank you! =)
Anna @ Adventures with a Book Nerd
Ooooooo, I’m excited! Okay, I’m going to see when I can make my signup post and everything. 🙂
I do have a question: do books started before the challenge count? Or do all the books have to be started after the start date?
As long as you have 100 or more pages to finish you can count the book.
Lillian @ Mom with a Reading Problem
I missed getting to do this challenge last year! So excited to be able to participate this year 😀 Hopefully I meet my goals this go around…Good luck and thank you for hosting!
So glad you are joining in the fun Lillian!
I’m setting my sights high this year!
Wahoo!! My plan is not to fail my own challenge like last year! Bwahaha.
What a fun challenge; you are so creative. We’re friends on Goodreads, right?
I think we are?!?
Carole @ Carole's Random Life in Books
I think that this is one that will work well for me! I am going to give it my best try at least 🙂 I will post my sign up later this month.
So sorry to hear that you are still sick, Kimberly. I hope you feel much better soon.
Yes, stick a fork in me, I am done. Sinus infection, pneumonia and now the flu. Glad you are joining in the fun!
woot! TBR reading my main goal for 2018. Got my Goodreads shelf ready to go.
Yay. Happy to help.
Charlotte Anne Brand
Ooooo I love this! I can’t wait to take part! Let’s do this!! <3

Glad you are joining us Charlotte!
I signed up. I’m determined this year to be successful.
I signed up, but no promises I’ll be able to join very much.
I love this challenge. It fits in well with one of my big focuses this year. I’m in.
Wishing everyone else luck!
Glad you are joining in Sophia.
Good luck and have fun! Me and deadlines aren’t friends anymore except when it comes to Net Galley so I would be hopeless at this. I will cheer you on instead!
This is the only challenge I failed last year..lol. Would you believe hubs and I now have the flu? We tested positive for type A. I could just cry.
Oh no! That is awful. Wonder which one of you had it first? You’ve been so sick, maybe you had it all along and they tested too early for it the first time. I don’t even know if that’s possible! I hope you can get a lot of rest and feel better soon-both if you!
We both finished our antibiotics on Sunday. Neither of us felt better, but Monday night we both ran fevers and had chills etc. Our granddaughter had type A not quite two weeks ago, apparently, there is a period between exposure and outbreak which is why it spreads so quickly. My lungs are clearing up but now my husband has pneumonia too, so mine must have been viral. Ugh. We just need to catch a break.
I will have to remember this and make my goal post when it gets closer. 🙂
You don’t need to link a goals post to sign up. Just remember it closes on March 3rd.
Looking forward to seeing the results. If I add any more books or challenges I will never get anything done.
LOL. You can count any books that are published before March 2018 and count them for other challenges.
This would really be a “challenge” for me! For every book I read from my TBR list, I usually add three more!!!
YES, Angela! I think we all do that, but it’s nice to get some of them read 🙂
Good luck to conquering your challenge Kim! I’m rooting!!!!
Thank you, Debbie.
I think I may join this one. Have a lot of old releases I need to get through.
This sounds like a really fun reading challenge. My to-read stacks are out of control. I probably have 200 books in my to-read stacks.
I hear you. I am sure I am the same..lol
Love this challenge, Kim. I’m going to go through my list before I begin, and delete old books that I am not interested in reading anymore. Is that okay to do? My TBR is so lengthy!
Hi Lisa, Yes, you can do whatever you want.. You do not have to list books you will read, just set a goal for how many you want to read.
Tyler H. Jolley
I love following along with this. Good luck, Kimba!
Kristin @ Addicted to HEA
I’m linking up!! Do I link up my post or just my blog??? 🙂
Kristin @ Addicted to HEA
Screw it… adding the blog!!!
You can just link up. I will ask for started/update post in Rafflecopter.
Ooh how fun! I might have to do this. I don’t necessarily have a ton of OLD ARCs, but I do have a lot of old books on my TBR in general that I’d like to start getting through.
Yep, this is a TBR challenge but can be old arcs as well. As long as published before March 1st.
Christine @Buckling Bookshelves
This is my favorite month-long challenge and I’m so glad it’s back! I’m going to aim for reading only backlist all of March and read only from my shelves — I’ll get my sign up post together soon — thanks for hosting again!
Yay. Glad you are signed up and that you enjoy it. I am hoping to actually meet my goals this year. I failed last year. *hangs head*
cannot commit due to a little princess hogging all my time. She’s really a handful!
I get it. The Royals keep me busy, but they go home at night.
good luck for your challenge!
