Angel Crawford has finally pulled herself together (literally!) after her disastrous dismemberment on Mardi Gras. She’s putting the pieces of her life back in order and is ready to tackle whatever the future holds.

Too bad the future is a nasty bitch. There’s a new kind of zombie in town: mindless shamblers, infectious and ravenous.

With the threat of a full-blown shambler pandemic looming, and a loved one stricken, Angel and the “real” zombies scramble to find a cure. Yet when Angel uncovers the true reason the plague is spreading so quickly, she adds “no-holds-barred revenge” to her to-do list.

Angel is busting her ass dealing with shambling hordes, zombie gators, government jerks, and way too many mosquitos, but this white trash chick ain’t giving up.

Good thing, since the fate of the world is resting on her undead shoulders.

ZOMBIE urban Kick Ass Heroine mystery

I just love this series! White Trash Zombie Unchained by Diana Rowland is the sixth book in the White Trash Zombies urban fantasy series set in Louisana. I love listening to Allison McLemore narrate she nails Angel’s character. From her accents to pacing she and Rowland are well matched.

For those of you thinking ZOMBIES, I don’t do zombies. Stop because this is not a typical zombie book. Think iZombie. It is filled with mystery, humor and some of the funniest characters. Are there brain slurpies? Sure, but it’s all quite civilized, and the zombies live among us. Angel Crawford is our protagonist, and the girl is crazy, smarter than she thinks and a total kickass. Haven’t started the series? Check out my review of the first book, My Life As A White Trash Zombie.

In White Trash Zombie Unchained Angel Crawford is just recovering from the deadly shenanigans from the previous book and Rowland has her tackling more trouble as a new strain of the zombie virus appears effecting alligators and moving on to humans. As Angel and the rest of them work to stop the infection and find a cure, an old nemesis appears. This was an exciting installment, and I loved watching Angel piece things together. Rowland delivered plenty of action, a few heart-stopping moments and tons of laughter.

I have come to adore this growing cast of characters and loved the interaction between them. Banter, support, and respect all make them feel genuine. Angel continues to grow and mature. I adore her.  Sure she is a little rough around the edges, but she is sincere and loyal to the core. I love getting inside her head. She calls it as she sees it and I cannot help but smile.

Allison McLemore brings all of Rowland’s characters to life from accents to personality giving me an enhanced experience.

Once again the world building, storyline, and continuation of the overall arc were stellar. A few threads felt a tad rushed to me, but I cannot recommend this series enough.

Fans of snark, suspense and mystery will enjoy White Trash Zombie Unchained and the entire White Trash Zombie series. Be wild and give it a try!
