Sunday Post

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted here @ Caffeinated Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news~ A post to recap the past week on your blog and showcase books and things we have received. Share news about what is coming up on our blog for the week ahead. See rules here: Sunday Post Meme

It was a busy week and the weather struggled to get about 60 most days. I managed to get quite a bit of reading done and ordered the new Kindle Waterproof Oasis w/Audible. I am selling my mint condition original Oasis. (really I am giving someone a chance to own it for what Amazon will pay me before they double the price and resell it.)  *SOLD* You can find details on my Facebook page. The HoHoHo Readathon Sign-up is open. I hope you join us in reading holiday and winter-themed reads. Not sure you own any? Google your favorite genre + winter/snow setting. It will take you to pages on Goodreads with oodles of books to choose from. Turns out I owned quite a few myself. Bloggers and Authors sign-up for the Black Friday Book Bonanza Giveaway Hop. It’s a great way to give back and introduce your blog to others.  I had to turn G.A.S.P back on (checkbox to confirm you are not a spammer) The increase in comments with links, porn and spam was too much! It’s supposed to be cooling off here too. I need to get my HO3 readathon post going. And find my winter- themed books to read too!

Ooh Into the Drowning Deep. Have a feeling that one’s gonna be good.

    • kimbacaffeinate

If you haven’t read Joe Hill yet, NOS4A2 qualifies. I listened to it last year and OMG! I am currently reading Into the Drowning Deep it is creeptastic!

  2. Katherine @ I Wish I Lived in a Library

A waterproof Oasis sounds amazing. My husband wants me to upgrade my Paperwhite (so he can have it!) but I haven’t wanted to because my Paperwhite works great but now I’m tempted! Im working up the courage to sign up for the read-a-thon. I’ve been really tempted in the past but something came up. I think I’m going to deem this year and just do mg best. Off the look for winter-y books! Have a great week!

    • kimbacaffeinate

I am a technology geek and addicted to the latest gadgets. Although my old Oasis will get the Bluetooth upgrade and be audible ready too.

  3. Lexxie

It’s cooler and more crisp here, too, and I have to say i love it! We have blue skies, and the leaves have donned all the different colors they can find.
I’ve had a lot more attempted spamming these days, too, so I totally understand why you had to get GASP back.
    Have a wonderful week ahead and happy reading, Kim 🙂 {{{hugs}}}

    • kimbacaffeinate

If it weren’t for the aches and pains associated with the cold, I would love it. Fall and Winter used to be my favorite seasons. Yep, I had 63 spam comments today and couldn’t take it anymore.

        • kimbacaffeinate

Thank you Lexxie. I agree, Akismet keeps them from actually posting on my blog, but it also places actual comments in spam, so I am forced to sort through them. G.A.S.P is fantastic at keeping out the rift-raft. 🙂

  4. Michelle Gilmore

It was cooler today after a week of 80 degree weather, it was somewhat nice other than it being really grey out. I thought about purchasing the kindle from you, but it looks like I’m going to be buying a new phone this week….*sigh*

I hope you have an awesome week!

I hear you. Our phones are 3 years old in November. We will need to upgrade soon. I am hoping for some good holiday deals. I won’t be shipping my old one until Nov 1st, so if you change your mind and I haven’t sold it let me know. 🙂

  5. Rachel

I’m curious about the new waterproof/audible kindles. My paperwhite is still going strong so I guess I’ll check it all out when it dies. 🙂 I’m looking forward to your thoughts on Mira Grant’s Into the Drowning Deep. Have a great week, Kimberly! 🙂

That is quite the mark-up from Amazon isn’t it? Good luck selling it 🙂 Amazon are finally going to have a proper Australian site that isn’t ebooks soon. I really hope we get more choice with our e-readers, some of the non-basic ones look pretty fancy!

Thank you for the readathon reminder, I shall have to sign myself up.

I hope you have a wonderful week ahead!

Yes, it is quite the markup. Yay to an Amazon store. I hope they open up the e-reader market for you. Happy to hear you’ll join us for HoHoHo.

  7. Karen Blue

I saw that waterproof Oasis and thought immediately “I NEED that!” But honestly i probably don’t. I just WANT it. It is nice to hear that you got one. Please do tell us if it is as awesome to read in the bath or pool as it seems like it would be!
I was just thinking about what to do for my Black Friday Bonanza this year. I am working Thanksgiving, but i do have Black Friday off so that is when I will be celebrating. Thanks for reminding me to sign up!
    Have a great week!

  8. Chloe

Super excited to join in with the HoHoHo Readathon. I think I’ll have to have a little research at what books I already own that fit the category as I’m trying to read the books I have before I buy new ones haha!!

Nice to hear you got a lot of reading done this week. I feel I’m starting to come out of my slump a lot more and am pretty proud of what I’ve read this week too.

Hope you have a great week 🙂

Ooh, you ordered a Kindle Oasis! You’ll have to update me on how it’s different from the normal Kindle and how’s the feel. It’s bigger, isn’t it. I would be so excited if I were you! (I love ereaders xD).. Oh wait, I didn’t know you even had an Oasis before! I just have a regular PaperWhite (but I still love it!)
Have a nice week, Kim 🙂

In Philly, we’re still experiencing Summer weather. Temperatures have been in the high 70s and low 80s. We’re not expecting to see the 60s until Tuesday.

  11. Michelle@Because Reading

I am loving the cool weather, evey one else in the house hates its. I am looking forward to the day I can take the AC out of the windows.

Googling that might be dangerous for me! As most know I am a serious Christmas freak! 🙂 I know what I will be doing today! lol

I signed up for Hohoho but I will see if Berls wants to do the hop it might be fun to offer one prize from both of us!

Have a great wee, Kim! Happy Reading! ox

LOL, our AC is off and the heat is on. I used to love the Fall and Winter, wouldn’t even wear a coat, but with my RA it is painful. I won’t even venture outdoors in the winter 🙁
Yay glad you signed up for HoHoHo, and hope you do the hop. Ask an author or pub to donate the prize 🙂

  12. Lola

Sounds like you got a lot of reading done this week! I already read a few Christmas themed reads this year and have one or two more lined up to read if I can. GASP catches so many spam comments on my blog, I can see why you turned it back on. Have a great week!

Yeah, I was good for a few days and then wham. While they didn’t show up on the front end, it made checking spam for valid comments an issue.

  13. Melissa (My words and pages)

We stayed on the warmer side this week, in the upper 70’s. It was nice, except for the rain. lol. I understand about the spam and porn comments. I tried turning mine verification off for a day and couldn’t believe what I got when I woke up the next morning. It’s terrible!

Take care and have a good week!

  14. Deb Nance at Readerbuzz

I’ve been having a ton of spam in Italian! What is that about?!

I wish it would cool off here. I’m tired of the 90’s. Maybe tomorrow, they say.

    Enjoy your week!

  15. Siran

Aint Love A Witch looks intersting.

I would by the oasis but I am actually trying to cut my spending.

  16. Samantha

I never thought about using google/goodreads to help me find books set in winter or with snow! I was looking through my kindle and finding nothing, so your way will be much more effective!
I am DYING to get the new Oasis!!!!

We are also having temperatures in the 60s which is spookily warm for us here in the UK – not that I’ve been getting out much with the flu. I love your new book selection – Joe Hill’s book looks interesting and I LOVE the title of Ain’t Love a Witch. Best of luck with the new Kindle – I have a very elderly, rather battered edition, but am terrified of trading up because I am familiar with it. Have a great week, Kimberley:)

  18. Tanya @ Girl Plus Books

So envious of your weather! We’re still in the 80’s… supposed to be 86 today. Ugh. I’m so over the heat. But fall is a long time coming in Florida. 🙂 I’ve never even heard of the Oasis (where have I been?) and certainly not a waterproof version. How cool! I still have my trusty Kindle Fire and love it. I definitely plan on signing up for the Black Friday Giveaway. Sounds like a lot of fun! Love your random this week! Because it is hilariously true. LOL

It’s gotten chillier here, too! I even woke up to snow yesterday, although it all melted off by afternoon and now I just see tons of leaves 🙂

I’ve never used comment moderation on my blog in the past, but the past week has been crazy with the amount of spam that I’ve turned it on. Not sure what’s going on!

    Have a great week!

Bwahaha…good for you Anna. Thankfully they don’t actually post on the front end, but sometimes Askmit places good comments in spam and sorting through all those comments is aggravating. This takes care of that.

  20. Jolene

Have you ordered the new illustrated Kindle version of the first Harry Potter book? They illustrations move!!!! I know you are a huge HP fan too 🙂 I bet it would look fabulous on your new Kindle. Have a great week!

Ha..yes I yelled take my money. I own every dang thing for Potter. Not really for an eink reader, I do have a Fire, and of course, it plays well on the app for my other tablets. The Oasis is strictly for reading and listening. I don’t even connect my social media too it.

  21. Christina T

The new Kindle Oasis sounds kind of cool. I don’t think I need a waterproof Kindle but I want to upgrade mine eventually (I have a Kindle Keyboard).

The weather was pretty nice here especially yesterday but this week is much cooler. Supposed to rain all day today so maybe I’ll get some reading done.

Hope you have a great week!

    • kimbacaffeinate

The kindle keyboard…omg. The old Oasis I am selling will get an update and will have Audible. I only have to charge it once a month and read almost 3 hours a day. I will say, their products last forever.

  22. Corina Paris

OMG – I want the new kindle STAT!!!! i just bought an Oasis half a year ago. But the new one sounds fantastic!!! I hate that they don’t keep their updates in line with the iPhones. I never know when new updates and devices are coming, so I can’t really wait for them either, otherwise I’ll wait forever. Now, I wish I had waited another 6 month. Oh well, I love my Oasis, and I don’t take baths or go to the pool either so theoretically I don’t need a waterproofed one. 😀

    • kimbacaffeinate

I use my Oasis only for reading. No social media connected and distraction free. I have the fire but use it more for watching movies and allowing Sophia to play interactive PBS games.

  23. vvb

Joe Hill is an author I plan to try out sometime. Your event signups are tempting. I’m heading over there ;-). Have a good week.

  24. A Voracious Reader

I want all the Supernatural covers, too!! 😀 I think your weather is heading this way. We’re going to be getting some cooler weather. Again. But that’s ok. Running the A/C in October here in NC is just so very wrong. I’m ready to turn that thing off. Again. lol I hope you have a great week, Kim!

I love your snowman for the HoHoHo Readathon, KImberly.! I plan to put up my readathon post this next week. I’ve been collecting books to read for the last month….lol.

I read about the new oasis and had a bit of envy. My paperwhite is working just great so I can’t get another kindle right now, but I’m excited you’re getting one. I’ll look forward to hearing how you like it.

I hope you have a great week!

  26. Sydney @Scripturient

I am so excited for the HoHoHo Readathon! I have already made a Goodreads shelf for it, and I am in the process of writing my intentions post. Have a wonderful week and thank you for hosting The Sunday Post!

  27. Lark @ The Bookwyrm's Hoard

I’m slightly envious of your cool weather. It’s supposed to get to 81 here today, which is admittedly better than the high 80s we were treated to a week or so ago. But I’m so ready for sweater weather!

I’ll be signing up for the HoHoHo readathon, though I don’t know how much time I’ll have that week. Still, I usually manage at least one or two books! And I’ll think about the Book Blogger Hop as well.

    Have a great week!

We are back in the 70’s this week. it’s only 43 today though. Sign up even if you read one or two it will be fun to join the challenges and socialize.

  28. Natalie @Natflix&Books

It’s pretty hot here still. It’s in the mid-70s today and was almost 80 yesterday. The leaves have barely started to turn. I’m afraid it means Jan and Feb are going to be brutal. We’ll see. Happy reading!

  29. Jasprit

I’m really enjoying Meader’s series, I picked it on a whim last month and have been hooked ever since! And I didn’t even realise there was a new Kindle out, I will have to see what it’s like! I hope you have a great week! 🙂

OMG!! That’s my post in “Around the Blogosphere!” Thanks for sharing, Kim – it was a bit of a rough weekend and now I’ve got a nice case of the warm-and-fuzzies this morning. (Plus an answer to why I had a spike in midnight blog traffic) 🙂

I hope you enjoy your new Kindle. It’s about time they made something audio-book friendly 🙂 Happy reading and hope you have a great week ahead!

    • kimbacaffeinate

Aww, you are welcome and happy you had a spike in traffic. I am excited and of course, it will take forever for October 31st to get here!

  31. Wendy @ Falconer's Library

I guess the one advantage to having a tiny little blog is that I get virtually no spam of any sort. *knocks wood*

Having a lovely Sunday morning drinking my coffee and visiting blogs! I may need two cups before I get done!

  32. Charlie

I am considering purchasing the waterproof Kindle Oasis during sales season when the price goes down, or maybe next year. I remember when you got yours and I wanted it then! I *might* be joining the HOHOHOers this year, or I may unofficially read along. I don’t know yet.

Sounds like perfect reading weather! It has been cold and rainy here, but I do not mind at all. I am sorry you have had an influx in spam. I am not familiar with G.A.S.P. but currently am not having an issue. Although. I would do good to clear out my spam box every now and then. Yay for selling the Kindle. I admit I eyeballed it a few times haha. Have a wonderful week!

Congratulations on your new kindle. I know you’ll really enjoy it, especially this winter. Nothing like reading in the tub, well, that’s what my wife says. I’m not much of a bath guy.

  35. Barb (boxermommyreads)

I really want to participate in the HoHoHo Read-a-thon. I have one book already picked out but was wondering…will winter themed horror work or does it need to be romance/contemporary? Either way, count me in!

    • kimbacaffeinate

Oh, a reader after my own heart. Any genre with a winter setting. Last year I read NOS4A2 during HoHoHo, I listened and it was fantastic!

    • kimbacaffeinate and I would get along just fine. I bought the new Hd Fire too, but use it with Sophia to watch movies and play interactive learning games. It is heavy. I have given my old ones away to my kids and family but decided to sell this one. I am glad I did because I know the person who bought it is really going to enjoy it.

    • kimbacaffeinate

Thanks, Lorna. I am counting the days. I shipped my old one out of Sunday and I am currently using m Fire to read. Ugh…too heavy! I order a vat of bubble
