Sunday Post

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted here @ Caffeinated Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news~ A post to recap the past week on your blog and showcase books and things we have received. Share news about what is coming up on our blog for the week ahead. See rules here: Sunday Post Meme

Thanks for all the birthday wishes. I didn’t get the reading done that I had planned.  Between the kid’s coming over and cooking me dinner in MY kitchen and updating my blog to https time slipped away. It wasn’t hard to update per se, but I had things from blogger during the first two years that required tweaking. I did it from the backend as I didn’t want a plugin I could never remove to fix it.  CommentLuv Premium broke for two reasons. First, it doesn’t support https and second Comment Reply Notification doesn’t play nice with a PHP of 7 or higher. Since it’s no longer supported, I switched to Nose Graze’s free,  Comment Love. (download at bottom of post) and ReplyMe (which is older than dirt, but works!) I am hoping Ashley releases her CRN version. On Tuesday Mr.Caffeinated took me to a movie dinner theatre where we saw IT and enjoyed gourmet dining. I enjoyed this adaptation.  The HoHoHo Readathon signup goes live Monday. I am hoping you all join in the fun. I am still in need of 3-4 hosts. I will be making the rounds today. Between the celebration of life trip and my BD, I have missed you guys. Stay Caffeinated!

  1. Geybie's Book Blog

Glad that the upgrade went smoothly. I hope you had a wonderful time celebrating last week, Kim. I’m using tweak me theme too and recently had a little problem. I hope Ashley updated it too. I don’t use commentluv but I’m planning to. Hopefully soon.
Anyway, happy reading and have a wonderful week. ❤️

Glad to hear you had a good birthday, even if you didn’t read as much as you would have liked. I really want to see It in the theater, but am afraid I’m running out of time. Oh, well. Happy reading!

Nice to see the HoHoHo coming up, although I’m somewhat alarmed about the upcoming holidays??!? Glad you got the blog updates done without too much trouble. Seems like there’s always something!

I haven’t been to a movie in ages, and there are a few I want to see. Not sure about that one though… ha ha

Your site is https, but not showing secure Lexxie. You need to finish the job so that the green lock and word secure appear. I can send you how to links if you like. Just let me know.

  4. Wattle

Is there any particular reason you decided to change from http to https? Comment luv broke for me a while back so I’m also using Ashley’s version too and it just feels so much better! I like how it integrates into the formatting of the page.

I think I’ll definitely have to sign up for the HoHoHo readathon this year, looking forward to it!

I hope you have a good week ahead 🙂

A few actually. Google informed me beginning in October my page would show as not secure and eventually all non-https sites will get this red bar and a warning.. Since I sell ad space on my site and my business domain URL redirects to a page on my website, I didn’t want potential visitors avoiding my site because of the warnings.

      • Wattle

Oooh that’s interesting (and makes perfect sense!) thank you for answering my question 🙂

  5. Siran

I am intrigued by the hohoho read a thon. Depending on how it works, I may participate.

    • kimbacaffeinate

Rules will be posted Monday but the basic idea is to read as many holiday or winter themed (setting) books as you can. Plus join in fun challenges to win prizes. No blog required you can use Goodreads, or other social media site to share/track your progress. Random winner at the end wins a prize. (Int)

  6. Emma

I am moving to a new site-host Monday and I am so nervous when I read about other people having issues – I hope I am able to manage things myself (gulp). My husband is nagging me to see IT – good to know you enjoyed it…I might have to take him after all 🙂 Have a good week.

  7. Evelina @ AvalinahsBooks

You are so cool, do you actually do all that blog tech stuff yourself? I have to rely on others! Installing a plugin is as far as I can go myself, haha. I’m glad you got it all sorted! Have a nice week 🙂

I do both. Like a change to my custom theme, I paid the designer to tweak. Adding the code to my .htaccess file, me, installing a plugin, me., SSL I did, but had a friend help me tweak some code. Google is my friend. 🙂

  8. Karen Blue

I hate commentluv but use it because I didn’t think there was an alternative. Thanks for telling us about Ashley’s free comment love. I like that commentluv shows all the comments people have posted before, but I don’t think that is reason enough to keep it.
My theme has been using https for a while now. I noticed the change a few months ago when I add a link to FooGallery and it breaks if I don’t add the s to my http. I didn’t realize what a huge update this was for folks doing their own coding,
I probably won’t participate in the HoHoHo readathon, but I wouldn’t mind hosting a challenge for it. Not sure if that would work for you since I don’t read many holiday themed books. You can email me if you would like me to put something together for it.
    Have a great week Kimberly!

I see you have it, but it’s not secure, meaning the green lock and secure do not show. It gives a warning. Your host probably offered it for free, but you need to secure pages. You could use a simple plug like Really Simple SSL. (if you don’t want to code yourself) It will improve your rankings and assure non-techie folks your site is safe.

  9. Michelle@Because Reading

Glad it’s all working for you now. I used a plug-in because I was worried that I would totally mess something up. I can always try it at some point but for now I am secure. 🙂

I am glad you had a great birthday and I am looking forward to the Hohoho, I need to get some more quick Christmas reads.

I hope you have a great week, Kim! Happy Reading!

Sounds like you had a busy week Kimberly. Glad to read your update went okay.
I definitely like to see IT someday.. But I’m also a little scared to watch it since I hate clowns. LOL!
I’m definitely interested in being a host for HoHoHo!! I’ll send you an email.
Have a great week and happy reading.

  12. Bookworm

Happy Belated Birthday! I liked this new IT film as well. I’ll have to check out your HoHoHo Readathon this week, sounds like fun! Happy reading 🙂

I’m glad that you had a good birthday, Kim even though you didn’t get to read all the books you planned on. But there’s always time for books. I’d rather have someone cook for me too! 😉

Have a good week ahead and take care!

I really want to read Practical Magic and the new book, The Rules of Magic. Now I must watch the movie, too! I hope you have a great week!

  17. Darlene

The title for The Dirty Book Club make me giggle, LOL! I’m in the home stretch of listening to It, which is 45 hrs long. Just 3 more to go! And, yes, I want to see the movie! Gourmet dining and a movie sounds lovely. Have a great week!

It sounds like your birthday was nice even though you didn’t get all your reading done. Hopefully you manage to find some time to sit down and enjoy your books this next week. You’ve done some great work on your blog and good for you doing it yourself–even though it always seems to take more time than expected!

I hope you have a great week, Kimberly!

    • kimbacaffeinate

Every year I learn a little more Jan. Considering the fact that I didn’t have a Facebook account or know what the heck Twitter was when I started in 2011. I am proud of myself. I know have enough knowledge to get myself in serious trouble! Bwahaha.

  19. Aleen @ Lampshade Reader

I wasn’t a fan of CommentLuv simply because it never worked for me and it hadn’t been updated for a long time. I just didn’t feel comfortable with having that on my website. Glad to know that Nozegraze has one! I’ll check it out.

I had no issues, but didn;t realize it had started to crumble. Anyone entering an https link would get an error and some blogs didn’t work at all. I am thankful to have found Ashleys and try to only use plugins that are maintained. It is a shame Andy didn’t sell his premium plugin.

  20. Jolene

I haven’t seen IT yet. I plan to soon! My hubby and I went to see Bladerunner 2049. I thought it was really good, the hubs not so much. I admit it was different and weird but that is what I liked. Seems like all movies are the same these days. Have a great week!

I popped over to your Halloween Reads and Listens post – I really want to read The Hallowed Ones and Delia’s Shadow!

I loved Rituals by Armstrong. I thought it was such a great series – I am bummed she is done with it! 🙁 Hopefully we do hear more from Cainsville and its characters.

  22. Kathy

I don’t want to mess with any coding (I’ve done that before and the blog looked funky lol) so I’m using Ashley’s plugin. I trust her instead of me lol. It sounds like another busy week for you and I hope you enjoy your new books. I haven’t received my XOXperts package yet but this months selection looks good. Have a great week!

It is just the one book. I was glad it came early. I just read last months this weekend, with the trip home I didn’t get the package until I came back.

  23. Lola

I haven’t switched my site yet to https, I haven’t looked into it much yet. I am still using commentluv for now and haven’t had any issues yet, but thanks for letting me know about Ashley’s option. I’ll have to stop by your review of Rituals soon. Have a great week!

Unless you convert to https or upgrade PHP above 6.8 you should be ok. However, anyone with a https link will get an error. I have to use old link to make it work on your site.

  24. Jenea's Book Obsession

So happy to hear your birthday was a fantastic one! 🙂 I’m glad you were able to get the commenting thing all fixed, I know it can be frustrating. Your books you received this week look great! Enjoy the rest of your Sunday.

    BTW… sent you a msg… I’ll host a HoHoHo “Challenge” 🙂

  26. Mallory

I’m not positive what the HoHoHo Readathon is – but I’m super excited to sign-up 🙂 I always struggle to find good Christmas/Winter themed books when the time comes so I’ve been slowly hoarding them this year. I’ve got a pile to read and can’t wait to hear about the challenge tomorrow!

  27. Danielle

Wow! You have had a busy week! I fear I missed most of it. Things are not where I would like at the moment so my time online is limited. I am happy to hear the Birthday celebrations were so lovely! Much deserved <3 I love how you tackle all of the tech issues on your own. I do the same, but run off of a plan that it pretty straight forward. I have to google any major issues that pop up and work from there haha. Hope you have a beautiful week ahead.

  28. Charlie

I don’t understand any of the technical, which is why I’m terrified to take my blog forward from WordPress’s free site. I’d like to, but again, the terror. I’m glad everything has worked out for you. I’ve only ever changed the theme a few times, which I’m considering doing again. I hope you enjoyed your birthday very much!

I’m glad your upgrade went well, and your birthday celebrations, too!. Thanks for the tip re Ashley’s CommentLove plugin. I haven’t even started thinking about https yet, but I know I will need to when I get some free time.

I hope you get some reading time this week! And I’m looking forward to Blog Ahead despite my busy work-project schedule that week..

  31. Tanya @ Girl Plus Books

I think my eyes crossed and steam came out of my brain at all the behind the scenes blog work you did. I am decidedly UN-techy. The dinner theater sounds like fun. I’ve only been to one of those before – at Disney Springs. It’s a neat experience Love your random this week! LOL.

  33. MarthaE

I am glad you had a nice Birthday — not sure I would have picked “It” but then again, movie and dinner out is always nice.
I am glad too that your upgrade went well. I plan to do that someday. I just don’t know when I will find time though.
Are those logs on the Random? Made me think about my hubby cutting down a tree by himself this week. Fortunately he was safe and the tree didn’t take out the shed and pool.
You have lots of good books coming up. Accident looks like a fun children’s book and Boss has a lovely cover.
    Happy Reading!

    • kimbacaffeinate

Hahaha…we hadn’t been to the movie theater in about 3 years.
Those are Tacos on the random sitting around a campfire. Glad hubby and home are safe:)

I’m going to wait to switch to https until I HAVE to, then I’ll pay someone to do it. lol. I think I’ll go watch IT. I want to go to the latest viewing alone, and park in an isolated spot in the parking garage. Gotta get my thrills somehow. lol

I’m trying to decide if the https swich is necessary for our book blog. You did it yourself? Did you find a good tutorial to follow?

    • kimbacaffeinate

Yes, I did. If you aren’t interested in access your htaccess files etc you can use the Really Simple SSL plugin. If you want to code it yourself, contact me and I will send you links I used. I did it for several reasons. 1. I have ads, 2. my business URL links to site 3. I didn’t want folks scared by the red not secure warnings that will appear on all non-https sites.

  36. Tyler H. Jolley

I sucked it up and watched IT too. It wasn’t as scary as I thought it would be, and I wish there would have been more clown, but . . . I think I’m making an unfair comparison to Tim Curry, who completely embodied Pennywise for me. Still a great movie, and I cannot wait for the second chapter. I didn’t realize it was going to be adapted to the 80’s then current day. Did you?

    • kimbacaffeinate

I just assumed it would be 80’s setting like the book. I am so glad they broke it into two movies. I think this is one of the better movies of his work.

  37. Angela

Sounds like you had a great B-day even without the reading. It’s wonderful family came over to celebrate and the kids cooked for you. Always a nice change when someone else cooks for you ^_^. Love the book haul. I hope you enjoy and that Totally Random pic. LOL. Have a wonderful week

Sweet of your family to cook your birthday dinner. Glad it was a good one. I can’t imagine how tired you must be with all the traveling and birthdaying. I don’t know the first thing about your update, but it sounds pretty complicated to me!

    • kimbacaffeinate

Yes. When I use Commentluv on your site I have to switch link to HTTP. But when you change your site to https, it locks you out and if your PHP is higher than 6.8 Reply Notifications in Commentluv blows up the blog…500 error.

  40. lisa thomson

Hi Kim, Happy belated birthday! It sounds like you had a good one. I’ll be doing some catching up here at Caffeinated reviews. 🙂 I especially like that you’ve done a post for Halloween reads!
