Sunday Post

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted here @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news~ A post to recap the past week on your blog and showcase books and things we have received. Share news about what is coming up on our blog for the week ahead. See rules here: Sunday Post Meme

I don’t really hate Fireworks. What I hate is the night after night of neighborhood fireworks. Gads. It looks like a zombie apocalypse out there! For the month of June, I read/listened to 23 books.  I had a lot of fun celebrating Audiobook Month and plan to take a more active role next year. This week was lovely. I received a beautiful thank you from someone who received books from a giveaway I did here at Caffeinated. It was such a nice, thoughtful gesture. (thank you. *winks*) Then, on Thursday a friend sent me an awesome care package. I shared below. To my Canadian friends Happy 150th Birthday and to my fellow Americans Have a Happy and Safe 4th of July! Stay cool and caffeinated!

I thought I’d been hearing fireworks around my condo, but decided I must have imagined them. Maybe not! I know I don’t like the sound of them when I’m quietly reading in my bedroom.

Enjoy those books, and thanks for hosting.

Oh I know I love fireworks- on the 4TH!! Not every night between now and then! Seriously it’s like being bombed out there. I guess my neighborhood isn’t the only one huh?

Hope you guys have a super 4th! 🙂

I need to read a Sarah MacLean, I keep hearing her name! And I already like Kresley Cole, though I must admit to having only read two of hers so far! Great socks!

Happy Canada Day (and early 4th of July!). The fireworks are definitely going off right now haha. Hope you have a great celebration and reading week! I’m intrigued by the Goss book!

I am 50% into the Goss audio. The Daughter of Dr. Jekyell, Sherlock Holmes, Watson, Frankenstein …oh yeah It is pretty cool.

  5. Lark

It’s lovely to get thank yous, and the care package looks great. Hang in there; the fireworks will diminish after the 4th. We haven’t heard many here, but we haven’t been home until last night. Have a great 4th and a great week!

    • kimbacaffeinate

Yes…or until they run out of the fireworks they bought. The big ones that are super loud at 2 am so not cool. Have a good 4th Lark 🙂

  6. Lexxie

Yeah, fireworks for days before the actual day we’re supposed to celebrate is really weird. First of all, do people have enough money to burn through to have enough for three or four nights? Secondly, it kind of takes away from the ‘special’ aspect of the fireworks…
    I’m glad you had such a good week, Kim! I hope next week will be awesome as well. Happy reading {{{hugs}}}

  7. Sam

Fireworks are not legal in NJ, , though the governor has OKed non-explosive ones this year, but I will still hear them for days. If I was ambitious, I could get close enough to see the Macy’s show, but it is really hot out. =) Hope you have a happy 4th!

People always have to go over the top with fireworks yet never seem to want to clean it all up. It always happens here after New Year as well. Yeay for awesome care packages!

I have to say I am not the biggest fan of neighbourhood fireworks if it’s my neighbours lighting them vs. my local authority. The latter are nice and big and exciting. The former are usually just the ones that whine and bang and don’t do much else. I think with this comment I have officially become a grumpy old woman 🙂 Have a good week.

Oh no these people in my area have the ones that sound like mortar bombs going off. They shake the house. Bwahaha…we are not grumpy, we just don’t want two weeks of fireworks.

    • kimbacaffeinate

I read less than others. I read and listen for a minimum of 3 hrs a day. Watch very little telly and have a slight addiction ..bwahaha.

        • kimbacaffeinate

I read way faster than I listen, but use audiobooks for all the times I cannot hold a book..driving, gardening, laundry, cooking etc. I read about 3 hrs a night

    • kimbacaffeinate

Oh, that is scary. You need to be careful when handling them. I freak out when parents let their young ones hold or light them.

  10. HahahahaLa La in the Library

I am surprised that I hadn’t heard any fireworks until last night. Personal fireworks are illegal here, but the police just turn their backs. Three or four years ago some of them stated looking like smaller professional works. It is scary when you live where the houses are close together! Enjoy your holiday! 🙂

Sounds like a good week for you Kimberly. And what a thoughtful thing to do. I love the socks you got.
Are the fireworks for July 4th? Here in The Netherlands we only really have fireworks on New Year’s, and there are laws prohibiting fireworks before that day. But it still happens.
Love your new books. I read the first book in the O’Malleys series, and although I didn’t love it as much as I hoped I would.. I really want to read the other books in the series.
Have a great week and happy reading!

Yes, we have them mostly for New Years and July 4th. I have already listed to this O’Malley audio. I love the series and think the narrator enhances them.

  12. Yvonne

I hate the sound of the fireworks. Last night there were alot of them. If it’s already loud, I can’t even think of what it will be like on the 4th. My poor kitties.

Hope you have a great 4th!

I started hearing them last night. Which means there are only two neighbors who could be doing them considering they’re the only ones close enough for us *to* hear them. lol We have fireworks to shoot off, but we’ll do them Tues evening. Happy 4th and have a wonderful week, Kim!

I am not a big fan of fireworks and it does always look bad the next day when fireworks parts are everywhere. Sounds like you read/ listened to a lot of books this month! I only read 8 books, but there were two 5 stars among those. Happy 4th of July and have a great week!

Oh, I am talking ones peeps by and set off in the neighborhood. Official ones are Tuesday night. I have the kiddos Monday as their parents work and my authors email me 24./7.

  15. Jessica

We don’t really have neighborhood fireworks. You can hear some occasionally, and there always seems to be some going off somewhere in the distance, but we can never figure out where! I’d think it was a “sanctioned” event because sometimes we can see them through the trees across the street!

Nice new reads! All new to me ones but I hope you will love each and every one of them!

Ugh Fireworks! Before kids I didn’t mind them, now however I have a six year old who when he’s already asleep wakes up crying because of the neighbors. Not cool to shoot off fireworks at all hours of the night!!!!
Awesome for 23 books this month. I wish I could read that fast 🙂 Hope you have a great week!

  18. Darlene

Congrats on reading 23 books! It was a little chaotic here last night. We were at the CFL season-opener in Regina, plus it was Canada Day so LOTS of (drunk) people walking on the streets. Egad!! Hope you have a great week and Happy 4th of July!

We had fireworks last weekend in our town b/c we live so close to Canada. We have a long standing agreement with them that they can have the long weekend to have fireworks on Canada Day. Its so we don’t end up competing. But towns a little farther out will have them on the 4th of July. Just a little trivia you’d never think of if you didn’t live on the border 🙂 Happy 150th to those crazy drivers!!! I jest!!

I think you’ll like that Robert title – I skipped the one before it but THAT one I liked 🙂

Have an awesome LONG weekend!!!!!!!! I’m with you on the fireworks… make the booming stop!!!!! xoxoxo

I don’t mind the planned events or multiple ones..its the neighbors lighting off oodles and oodles plus they seem to get ahold of illegal ones that sound like we are being air bombed.

    • kimbacaffeinate

Not the professional ones organized by the town, these are neighbors setting off fireworks. As soon as the stands pop up people spend hundred on them and set them off for days on end.

  20. Sarah

Happy July 4th from the other side of the pond!

I hope the fireworks don’t go on too many more days!

  21. Melissa (My words and pages)

Oh yeah. We have neighbors that do “teasers” for a few evenings before the do the big night of fireworks. Ugh. They did a bunch last night, so I’m not sure if they’ll do it for the 4th too or not. But it drives the dogs nuts. They just run around the house barking. Ugh. It’ll be over soon… *sigh*

Hope you have a lovely holiday with family and friends!

  22. Bookworm

You had a great reading month in June! I haven’t heard any fireworks by us yet, they do scare my dogs. Happy 4th and happy reading!

    • kimbacaffeinate

Are they legal in your area? They legalized them for sale here and sales began 2 weeks prior so folks go a tad crazy.

  23. Aleen

I have a love/hate relationship with fireworks. I love how pretty they are but hate that it terrifies my poor dog Tazzie. Celebrations have already started here.

Cute care package! 🙂 Hope you have a great week!

I prefer the organized ones that end before 11 pm. The neighborhood ones go on all the time and we’ve been shocked out of sleep at 2 am to ones that sound like explosions.

  24. Tanya

We’ve been lucky and I think last night was the only night we heard fireworks going off. They were far enough away that only the really loud ones disturbed the dogs. That or all my senior dogs are deaf! I got to celebrate yesterday with my uncle and aunts as they are here from Canada to visit and celebrate the 4th here with us! It’s really good to see them. Have a wonderful week!

  25. Sophia Rose

Oh yeah, we’ve had three nights of loud explosions from 9- midnight in our part of town. I am giving them the benefit of the doubt that they are ex-pat Canadians since we live on the border and their big holiday was yesterday. 🙂

Neat surprises in your mail. It was fun participating in #JIAM

Have a fun and safe 4th, Kimberly!

    • kimbacaffeinate

They are legal here for two weeks, so everyone goes mad. Some end up with illegal ones that sound like bombs. The asshat who set them off at 2 am …so not my friend.

  26. Stephanie

I hate the neighborhood firework amateurs too. Thankfully for the pre-4th days we won’t be around. But it doesn’t stop on the 4th in our neighborhood. Thankfully in IL the big stuff is illegal. Hopefully you’ll get through it without too much noise and chaos.

    Have a great reading week!

We went to the Pensacola Blue Wahoos baseball game last night and they had some amazing fireworks after the game. I live in a rural area and been hearing them since mid June. LOL Our neighbors get together and do some for the 4th and I enjoy them from my yard. They usually do more for the week and then exhaust their supply, Have a lovely holiday and enjoy those new reads, Kim!

    • kimbacaffeinate

Yep, that is what happens here, only we are within city limits (burbs) and everyone in all of the neighborhoods does them.

  28. Karen Blue

I actually miss fireworks now that we are in CT. It doesn’t seem like they have any on the 4th of July. Last year we went to a supposed good spot and the fireworks were so far away I couldn’t even hear the boom! I do hate when people light their own fireworks into the wee hours of the night. I have all my windows open and it scares my kids and little pup. Why do people do that?
I hope you have a good week!

I was pleasantly surprised to find that the fireworks had not started up here this weekend. We are in city limits and it should not even be an issue, but year after year it is the same 🙁 We have to worry about house fires, clean the debris and juggle getting up on no sleep for days to come. So I sadly fail to appreciate the celebrations as much as I was able to. But Happy 4th 🙂

  30. Genevieve

Ugh agreed! Fireworks can be so annoying sometimes. Even weeks before, not just the week before but the entire month before, people just set off fireworks until like 3 a.m. LOL, laugh through the pain. Happy Fourth!!

  31. Kathy

I hate hearing the fireworks before and after the 4th. It is irritating to get woken by it and also the poor animals go crazy. That is a cool package to receive. I hope you have a great week and a safe 4th of July!

Same here! Fireworks all over the place. I didn’t listen to the audios I wanted to in June. Time just got away with me. You did so well this month! Hope you’re enjoying your summer.

  33. Chloe

Nice hearing you’ve had such a nice week.
Plus wow you read a lot on June, I’m actually pretty jealous haha. Hope this week is just as good for you 🙂

*sigh* We have the same nonsense around 5th November – instead of one night of fireworks and fun, we have days and weeks of explosive bangs and crashes. I hope your 4th July celebrations go well, anyway.

I used to love fireworks when I was a kid but I grew up in the country where we could see and enjoy them. Now I live in a city and I hear the noise night after night but don’t get to see anything so it is just kind of annoying. I don’t mind if it is just one night but it does go on for days.

23 books is really impressive! I didn’t listen to as many audio books as I’d planned to in June but I ended the month with a good one I am still listening to and hope to finish tomorrow (Once and For All by Sarah Dessen).

Hope you have a nice 4th of July!

  36. RO

I’ve got to give some mad props to whoever dropped you a handwritten note of thanks. That’s totally unheard of today. I still love giving cards out because it seems like such a personal touch. I like the fireworks, especially since this year, I just need to sit on the porch to look at them. The downside is because I live around a lot of veterans, the loud noises can cause a distraction or bad reactions, so most normally stay inside to minimize any difficulties. Hope you and the fam have a great rest of the weekend! Hugs…

    • kimbacaffeinate

Wasn’t that sweet? Nowadays I am lucky if they even thank me when I tell them they have won..let alone something is delightful as a note.

  37. Kat

I feel you on the Fireworks – they’re really nice on the day, but people in my neighborhood start in the middle of May and end around Labor Day. It’s an every-night thing. How do people get money for that? Obviously, I’m in the wrong line of work 😉 Happy fourth, have a great week!

  38. Heidi

I am so glad we have strict laws here in Oregon regarding fireworks. You can only light them off on the 4th and after that and before that you can get ticketed if caught. I remember those endless nights of fireworks back in Idaho. Sounds like you had a good week. Always nice to get some love and kindness especially when you aren’t expecting it.

    • kimbacaffeinate

Yeah, but most states with those laws, they don’t really enforce unless they complain. They sell them two weeks prior here.

  39. Cai

I missed out on fireworks here at home this year because we went on a weekend trip. I am actually glad I skipped it again as I always end up injured! But it also means I don’t have a post for last week, so I am just stalking everyone until Sunday!

    • kimbacaffeinate

It’s nice to take a weekend off now and again. Obviously, I still set up the Sunday Post, but some weekends I unplug.

  40. Lorna

I grew up in a family that had backyard fireworks every year. We would end up with neighbors from all over the street watching. The key things are, do it as soon as it gets dark, have adults doing it, be very careful, and lastly be done as soon as possible. Hour max. Then show some respect for your fellow neighbors! We even had the police come and when they saw how organized, left with a Have a good night! I wish people would just stop!
Glad you had a good week and that you got such a sweet present. I spent six of the last ten days in the hospital for two different admissions. So I am very glad to be home!

    • kimbacaffeinate

YES, that is exactly how we did when the peeps were small. In fact, we will do some tonight for the hour max. It is the folks who end up with six buckets of fireworks trash after six nights of endless fireworks who make me batty.

  41. Tyler H. Jolley

I go back and forth on fireworks. One on hand, I love them, they’re beautiful, the kids look forward to them . . . but then my dogs are scared, it can trigger people with PTSD, and the fire threat is a real danger.

    • kimbacaffeinate

I like them really I do, but professional ones and maybe one or two nights of neighborhood fun…but there is always that asshat who cannot seem to stop and sets them off until 2 am.

  42. Katherine

I love fireworks but the people who shoot them off for days on end for hours at at time always puzzles me. If nothing else doesn’t it get boring? Most of the people in my area are pretty decent and stop before 10 but my Sister-in-law regularly has to deal with her neighbors shooting them off at 1AM or later and they have dogs that go berserk so it’s really an ordeal. Have a great week!

  43. Charlie

Hey, Kimba, I’m baaaaack! I was surprised there actually weren’t that many doing fireworks around us. I sat outside for 10 minutes or so around 9:00 to watch and there wasn’t much of anything. Then our jerk neighbors set off Roman candles in the side of the yard between our houses and it literally sounded like they were hitting the side of the house of the living room wall. The dogs hated it, and so did I.

  44. khan

I love them, they’re beautiful, the kids look forward to them . . . but then my dogs are scared, it can trigger people with PTSD, and the fire threat is a real danger.
