Last week we enjoyed the unusually warm weather. Heck, I even had shorts on last Sunday! Our weather remained on the warm side until Thursday when the temps took a nose dive. All day is was overcast, and then we had downpours and thunder and lightning before the storm turned to snow. We ended up with about three inches of the white stuff. My garden is confused. Last week my perennials began peeking their heads out of the grown.  On Thursday, my oldest daughter turned 26. Boy, do I feel old! I am still behind on reading, despite finishing another audio and two books. I changed my reading goal on Goodreads back to 250 and now I am only 3 books behind. (less stressful) Hope the week ahead is a good one. Stay Caffeinated!

Your weather is all over the place! We are enjoying a sunny weekend here–not quite shorts weather, although my husband might argue that point with me. 🙂 Happy Birthday to your daughter! My daughter’s birthday is coming up. She’s going to be six. How is that possible?!

I hope you have a great week, Kim! Stay warm. Spring really is on its way. I think.

  2. Greg

Our weather was exactly the same. Wednesday it was almost 70 here and I had summer clothes on too! Then it nosedived and we have snow also, and it’s cold! So yeah… but it was fun. Nice to see some blue sky in February!

Good luck reading this week. Ooh Distress Signals- I just bought that one!

LOL, no summer clothes this week. Warmest high coming up is 52 and a possibility or more snow on Thursday. Hello, March. Distress Signals was pretty cool.

  3. Christina T

The weather here was so beautiful till yesterday when we had some snow. At least we got a little taste of summer in February 🙂

I liked your review of The Orphan’s Tale. I will have to move that up my TBR pile. I also have A Perilous Undertaking on my TBR pile. I liked the first book but didn’t love it. I hope this sequel will work better for me.

Hope you have a great week!

We had a lovely week with weather in the 70s. Everything is budding and blooming. The only downside is the pollen. It’s wreaking havoc with my eyes. I worked in the yard and everything cleared and cut back and ready for new plants and flowers. Just have to wait a few weeks to make sure we don’t get a cold blast. Happy Birthday to your daughter. I’m with ya. My son will be 23 this year!

    • kimbacaffeinate

I feel you on the pollen we all have stuffy heads and watery eyes. My son turned 24 earlier this month and the baby will be 23 in July. Eep!

  5. Laurel-Rain Snow

Mother Nature has been having mood swings! We have had lots of changes, too, although no snow. Sunshine, storms, sunny days with wind…definitely all over the place. The trees outside have blossoms.

Enjoy your week, and I’m curious about the Katie Ruggle book.

Happy belated birthday to your daughter!! And I can’t believe you guys got 3 inches of snow!!! What the heck?!?!?! We’re just getting spat at. I swear, you guys are getting more snow than us this year!!! Florida is looking pretty good, right??

I bet your toes are painted and your flip flops are still out, though 🙂

    • kimbacaffeinate

Yes, Florida or a warmer state is on the horizon. Ha, well you got that half right. I do have painted toes, but I am wearing fuzzy slippers 🙂

  7. Michelle Gilmore

Our weather is in the 60’s and 70’s still. I think we’ll get rain later this week, but I’m not sure if the temps will drop at all. It’s been a pretty crazy winter…I’m not looking forward to the actual spring and summer at all. The pollen has been insane and it’s only Feb.
Happy Belated Birthday to your daughter! I hope you have a wonderful week Kim!

It must be so hard to be back in winterland after a few days of spring, Kim! I hope the white stuff will disappear fairly quickly so your perennials can continue to grow.
Thanks for all the links you shared, I hadn’t seen any of those posts, and they all look very interesting.
Have a fantastic week ahead and happy reading!

  9. Genesis

Poor garden! I hope the change in weather doesn’t affect it. But wow, what a bipolar weather!
To what did you have your GR challenge that you switched to 250? I’m soooooo behind on reading. I guess I haven’t had much motivation this year :/
    Have a lovely week!

We were in the mid 70s on Friday and next Friday it is going to be 19°. It was really nice having the windows open for a couple of days, though. My son will be 25 in April and I was not a spring chicken when I had him, ha ha, so I’m feeling super old. Have an excellent week. 🙂

There’s one thing we can say about the weather anymore, it’s interesting. If annoying. At the beginning of the year I set my Goodreads goal to 100 becasue it took the pressure off. I can always raise it (which is a positive instead of lowering which is a negative feeling) if I manage to surpass it. My lowest goal was 150 back in 2012 and I think that’s because I didn’t really know what I was doing on Goodreads. LOL I’ll be glad when things settle down around here and I can get back to reading on a more regular basis.

I hope you have a fantastic and warmer week, Kim!

We also had some pretty warm days this week, but the weekend has been colder again The weather sure has been strange lately. I am seeing some flowers starting to bloom outside. Happy birthday to your daughter! I hope you have a great week!

Happy belated Birthday wishes to your daughter and all the best for her! I saw your picture of the snow in your garden and can imagine how that must be like. In Germany, it is way too warm for this time of year but well, you can´t do much about the weather, can we?! Don´t think too hard about your reading goal and the being behind. I am sure you will have days during the year where you can read like crazy and everything is good again 🙂

Have a great Sunday and a great week ahead of you.

    Beste wishes

GOD BLESS THIS MILD WINTER 🙂 It sooo feels like spring already YAY! we had some snow too in between but I’ll take that! My garden is confused too and I am NOT a good garden so go figure. That confused vegetation has ZERO chance to get any advice from me 😛 being behind on reading because you had fun is a good thing 🙂 BUT I HEAR YOU KIME. Why do we bookworms stress so much??? LOL My sunday post today was precisely about how we book bloggers tend to get all stressed about deadlines and a big TRP pile. My next will be about , challenges and goals 🙂
I hope you have a great week and catch up with your reading :).

The crazy weather out your way has arrived in Philly, Kim! Yesterday, the temperature was in the 70s and folks were grilling hamburgers on their patios. When I woke up this morning, the temperature was 34 degrees.

That was us last weekend. We grilled and it was wonderful, but my Weds the temps began to take a nosedive. More snow is heading our way this week.

  17. Lark

The winter has been so warm here that our trees are putting out leaves and some of the flowers and flowering trees and shrubs are blooming — three weeks early. Things cooled off yesterday, but I think we’re in for a short, early spring and a long, hot summer.

I hate that feeling of being behind on my reading goals, Adjusting your goal makes perfect sense to me. Reading isn’t fun if it feels like pressure, and the whole point is to enjoy it! And here’s to all of us having fun with the Take Control of Your TBR event!

I’m looking forward to reading your Deanna Raybourn review as soon as I get mine written. 🙂

We didn’t get snow but we got a wicked thunderstorm last night. It was sort of neat to watch. The weather has been unusually weird. The cherry blossom trees have buds on them but they might go away after this week.

I always change around my Goodreads goal, I don’t need that kind of stress 😉

Have a great week, Kim! Happy Reading! ox

Good grief – those temperature swings are insane! No wonder your poor plants and insects are confused… We had some gales, courtesy of Storm Doris… I don’t know if some bright spark thought that giving the storm a cosy name would entice it to go easy on the rest of us, but I think it just sounds STUPID. But the spring flowers keep coming – I saw the first daffodil this week… I know what you mean about children’s birthdays pulling you up short – I needed a strong cuppa last year on my youngest’s 30th birthday… Hope you have a good reading week – and that the weather starts to sort itself out!

We are having wacky weather here, too. It warmed up enough for rain last weekend, and we had snow yesterday and waking up to -18 degrees Celsius this morning with a windchill of -27 Celsius. Brrrr! Mother Nature doesn’t know what she wants 🙂

Reading goals can be stressful. I’m glad you scaled it back. It’s supposed to be fun and for pleasure!! Happy birthday to your daughter! And, NO, you are not old!!

  21. Christine

We had freakishly warm temps here this week too. It got up to 70 two days ago, but now it’s dropped back down to the 30s again. Sigh. Winter just isn’t going down without a fight! Have a wonderful Sunday and an even better week ahead!

  22. Angela

We’ve had so much rain in CA this year and it’s been colder then usual. I don’t think the weather knows what it wants to do some days. My reading this month has been a little slow. I had my parents make a last minute decision to come visit. It was nice to see them last week.
Have a great week, enjoy your book haul, and happy reading!

  23. Tanya

My son turned 21 yesterday. He’s the baby, so it left me feeling a bit old. Didn’t help my birthday was last weekend, so I was already feeling old! Our weather has been absolutely nuts here in TX. It was SO warm, now I’m sitting here in a sweater over my PJ’s, a blanket over my legs and a pug curled up to my leg (I think he’s cold too!). Have a great week!

  24. Lily B

I upped my challenge today because I was actually ahead for the first time in 2 years and I was so excited!
Happy Birthday to your daughter 🙂 Hope she had a good one.
My flowers are confused also 🙁 I had some of my lilies die because they popped out of the ground and than the frost hit.
My Rose never went into hibernation mode and is budding. Luckily none of it is dead so it won’t need to be heavily trimmed.
Hope you enjoy your new read from Ruggle, I am still waiting for it to become available from the library

I know what you mean about the weather, it’s been beautiful these past few days. Last night we got hit with rain, thunder, and high winds. Temps have dropped, and we’re expecting snow. Makes me sad, because there are little green shoots in my garden too.

    • kimbacaffeinate

LOL. I set my goal last year to 250 and read 269. So I thought I would bump it up to 275…but that constant wavering between 5 and 6 books behind made me cringe.

  26. vvb

Brrr, it has been freezing (for me) in San Francisco. Looking forward to some warmer weather.

  27. Danielle Nolan

Shorts! I could not even imagine. we are experiencing odd weather as well, but more in the abnormally cold sense. No shorts haha. You had a very productive week. I have been dealing with a lot this week and only managed to complete one book! Ugh. Happy Sunday Kim!

I hear ya. I wish the weather would make up its mind. We keep getting hit with rain storms here in SoCal and it keeps bringing in cold fronts. So we go from 70’s to 50’s within a matter of days. My plants are confused, my poor tortoise that has an outdoor enclosure is all confused, and I’m not sure if I should break out my summer clothes or leave the turtlenecks out.

*snickers over the coffee quote up there* Your coffee is safe from me. 😉

Oh yeah, this week’s weather had more than my plants confused. I nearly froze to death one day b/c we had that t-storm morning and icy windy afternoon thing going on around here, too and I didn’t have a heavy coat to match the change when I left the building.

Hopefully your reading will pick up for you soon. Not a bad idea to adjust your goals so you don’t feel under the gun for the numbers.

    Have a great week!

  30. Tina

Our weather has been the same! We were wearing shirts most of the week then a Thursday and Friday it became really windy and cold. I feel like Mother Nature is drunk. Happy belated birthday to your daughter!

Yes, I have increased it, but never lowered it. Last year I read 269 books and thought I would bump my goal to 275..the pressure was too much!

  32. Katherine

Your comment on your daughter’s birthday made me laugh. I think my mother struggled with me turning 35 way more than I did! She kept saying “but you can’t be”. and I’m not sure she’s come to terms with it yet. The Katie Ruggle looks good. I’ve heard good buzz about her books. My flowers are confused too and I keep wanting to start planting vegetables but I know as soon as I do we’ll have a freeze that’ll kill everything! Have a great week!

We had the same weather last week! I am listening to Distress Signals right now, so far enjoying it. My youngest will be 26 this summer. Soon I will be commenting on how old my grandkids are getting. Have a great week.

  34. Charlie

Saturday the weather was great, albeit cool, and then today there is a huge gray cloud covering the entire city. We’ve hit 40+ degrees higher than record temps for this time of the year. Makes me wonder what summer is going to be like!

  35. Laura

I’ve been wanting to read both A Dangerous Undertaking and The Orphan’s Tale. Hope you have a great reading week!

  36. Tressa

I know what you mean about the weather. We have much cooler temps than normal right now. I’m trying to enjoy it while I can before the heat begins.

I’m behind in my reading too, but this week I’m planning on catching up. Have a fabulous week!
