Sunday Post

Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted here @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news~ A post to recap the past week on your blog and showcase books and things we have received. Share news about what is coming up on our blog for the week ahead. See rules here: Sunday Post Meme

My mother left Thursday evening after a very eventful trip through airport security. She was in a wheelchair and needed to be scanned manually since her pacemaker, and other things make it impossible for her to go through the normal scan. A simple swab test of her hands had her being whisked into a back room where she was searched, as was her luggage, handbag, and shoes. Eep! Her hands tested positive for explosive materials! The only thing she did differently was applying a sample perfume she received. We had a lovely time, ate way too much food and stayed up entirely too late So naturally, I woke up Friday with a scratchy throat and now have a lovely fever. We had a snowstorm on Wednesday, so Mom got to see snow again. The last time was in 1996! Of course, I am behind on writing reviews, haven’t touched my laptop except to handle social media for my clients and have tons to do. I am so tired, I haven’t been able to read and only managed one book while my Mom was visiting. So I spent Saturday drinking tea and listening to audios. I hope everyone is fantastic and want to thank you for still coming by and commenting on posts. I promise I will be back sometime this week. Stay caffeinated.

I’m glad you had a lovely time with your mother, although it sounds as if her departure experience wasn’t pleasant. My mum has a replacement hip and knee so always needs to be manually scanned. The hardest thing is they tend to make her take off her shoes – just in case – and she finds it hard to balance to put them back on again. Having said that she’s only flown twice in the last 6 or so years.

And no worries about being behind. I haven’t spent much time online over the past few days with several other commitments and I was stressing a bit, until I sat at my computer and then realised I hadn’t ‘missed it’ at all!

Good to hear your time with your mom was good! What a happening at the AirPort.. Explosives? Really.. that has probably been very stressfull for your mom.
Take your time Kim, you probably catch up soon! 😉

Wow your mom had quite the experience! Hope it wasn’t too stressful for her. Sounds like you had a lovely visit, and that’s nice. Hopefully you feel better soon…

    Love tired. just tired!

Your poor mother! I imagine it’s good that airport security is that thorough, but what an ordeal. Hopefully it’s one of those experiences she can laugh about now that it’s over. I hope you are feeling better, Kim. I’ve been trying to avoid the people at work who are sick and praying my daughter doesn’t catch something at school.

I am so glad you loved A Man Called Ove. I read it and loved it too. Such a beautiful story.

I hope you have a good week.

That gained to me once in security too! I used a different facial cleanser because I had forgotten the one I usually used and couldn’t find the same thing while on my trip and I thought I was going to miss my flight because they took so long. They needed to get a female TSA agent to go through my things and there wasn’t one in hand so I was waiting in this tiny room for what felt like forever and no one had even told me why! Crazy, and honestly kind of scary!

It sounds like your mom had quite the experience! I hope you start feeling better soon. I know when I fly I had a hard time explaining what my Cochlear Implant is. I am like it sort of a hearing aid and WHO would wear a bomb on their head anyways? Then they get all paranoid. Heh

Oh that sounds like an awful ordeal at the airport” I’ll look out for your review of I See You…I haven’t read it yet but loved I let You Go. Have a good week.

…and THAT’S why finding someone guilty on the evidence of traces of explosives alone just won’t do! ‘Nuff said. Hope your mother had a smooth journey back home – she clearly had a great time with you and I also hope you get a chance to recharge your batteries before plunging back into your daily life:). Have a RESTFUL week and take care. My Sunday Post –

They searched a lady in a wheelchair? They must have watched that Avengers movie. Glad she got off ok and that she was there for snow! I want one more good snow but it’s not likley to happen. NC is being very North Carolina-ish in the weather. I think we’re supposed to be 78 today. *head bang* So much for those sleds I bought.

    Oh noes on the cold! Kyleigh gave it to just about everyone here. We’ve all got the scratchy throat, the nose thing (stuffy then runny then back again) and sneezing. I hope you feel better soon! {{{posivibes}}}

That sounds great you got to spend some time with your mam. Sorry to hear about the search at the airport, I can imagine that would give you and her a bit of a scare. Now I wonder what was in that perfume sample. We also got a bit of snow here this weekend. I hope you feel better soon! Have a great week!

Airport security. I remember when I was wearing a knee brace for almost a year because I’d ruined my right knee and was waiting for surgery. Airports did not like me and I did not like them for a while. I’m glad you had a good time 🙂 Have a great week!

Wow! Your mom had quite an experience with airport security. I get a little extra scrutiny when I go through security because I have two knee replacements and they set off alarms. I often get patted down, but I’ve never been pulled into a back room.

I’m glad the visit with you mom went well, but sorry you’re sick again. I hope you can get extra rest and TLC. And hope you can get some extra reading done. Take care of yourself and have a good week.

Oh my. Sorry your mom had to deal with that. Those perfumes and lotions have crazy things in them, and they are so tight on what they look for. Hope she wasn’t to worked up over it.

And I hope you feel better! You’ve been battling colds so much lately. Take care!

Sorry to hear about the troubles your mom had at the airport. My mom had hip replacement and carries a card to verify this but she still had to go through the extensive searches to make sure. It’s crazy to put our loved ones through that. I hope you get some rest and get better soon.

Oh, no! Sorry to hear that you are under the weather again!! Best thing ever for sore throat or cough or a phlegmy chest is Oil of Oregano. Buy a bottle at your local health food store and put about 3 drops under your tongue three times a day. It’s a great antibacterial and anti-viral remedy. It must have been a nice treat for your mom to see snow again! Hope you spend the weekend having some downtime.

That’s wonderful you mother got to see snow again after twenty some years. Yikes about what happened at the airport. At least she had an exciting story to tell when she arrived back home. Ha ha. I hope your illness is fleeting and you can get back into the swing of things quickly. Have a fabulous week. 🙂

I don’t wear much perfume, but I’m pretty sure explosive residues wouldn’t be my scent of choice. >_< That's completely crazy! At least you both have a crazy fun story to tell now!
Family visits are for visiting, but hopefully this week offers more reading time. ^_^

I cannot imagine how exciting the snow must have been for your mother! That is so long. I had to wait like 6 years after moving here and nearly cried when I saw it haha.

I am sorry about airport security. I think they must have changed somethings. I swab and scan recently lead to me being searched. I literally had nothing on my because I was picking up my little man. It sounds like you ended on a more positive note though.

    Happy Sunday!

The airport experience is kind of crazy! Makes me wonder if your mom might have touched something that someone who HAD been handling explosive materials touched before her. Scary thought!
I’m glad you had a nice visit with her though and that she got to see snow again after so long. 🙂

I hope you are feeling better and gets lots of rest. No more colds for you!.
But I am glad you had a great visit! I think I might be finished with snow…my husband is bugging me to more to Florida and I might not be against it anymore 🙂

Have a great week, Kim! Happy Reading! ox

That’s horrible for your mom. I got searched once about six months after 9/11. And in front of everyone that was boarding my plane. They even went through each bill in my wallet. Sniffed my shampoo etc. I have never flown since. I was scared to fly anyway and that was just the icing on the cake. Bless your moms heart! Glad you all had a good visit and she got to see snow! And wow you are sick again. Someone said(a nurse in the ER) that people are getting it over and over this year. I hope all is better soon!

  24. Sophia Rose

That extra bit of screening happened to my poor husband when he left earlier than me from a family visit. My sister in law gave him her old lap top and something on it caused him to get pulled in. She felt so awful because all she did was wipe it down real nice before giving it to him and something in the wipe must have done the trick. Little excitement for your mom to take her mind off of flying jitters if she gets them. 🙂
Hope you feel better after coming down with the fever. Hey, glad you could have that visit and then soak up some stories on Saturday.

    Have a good week!

Kimba, that has actually happened to me! I had a small, sealed heart-shaped urn from a funeral I had attended. Naturally I put it in my carry-on and some residue from the funeral home (I’m guessing) showed a residue for explosives. Yeah, that was not my favorite time through security.
