What  a busy and exciting week here at Caffeinated house. As you know we have had house guests since June 14th, and my kids have been coming to dinners to spend time with them. It was wonderful and hectic. We took them sightseeing and shopping. It was tons of fun but lord was it hot as hades. We did the Botanical Gardens, Railroad Museum, Little Mexico, and Old Market. It was 94+ degrees of melt. So needless to say I am pooped. Our guests left Saturday morning. It is always sad when they leave since we know it will be a few years before we see them. This time however was easier since we are all attending a wedding in August.

In other news who else got lovely credits from B&N and Amazon? It was quite the windfall and clearly reflected my addiction. I ended up using credits at Amazon to get the Kindle Oasis. Many of you know I have been trying to decide which eInk reader to get and because of the price the Oasis wasn’t even on the table…but that settlement check made my decision. I am absolutely delighted with it. The weight of it is perfect for someone who suffers from any type of hand pain.

I am looking forward to hearing about your week. Stay cool and as always Stay Caffeinated!

Congrats on the Oasis! Company is always nice, sounds like you guys had a great time. It’s been hot here too, today was a scorcher almost too hot to be out. I won’t complain though since I spent all winter complaining about the cold lol.

Hope Paper and Fire was good, I’ve been a tad curious about those.

Oh, that Amazon credit came just in time for me to satisfy my book buying urges! Enjoy your week….and getting your house back. I remember what that was like after my house guests…and as much as I loved having them, it’s always great to settle into one’s own space again.

You sound like you had a lot of fun with the friends and family, Kim. I’m glad it wasn’t too sad and that you’ll be seeing them soon! 🙂
And woah! You must have gotten a really awesome settlement refund if you were able to get the Oasis. Very cool! I’ve been eyeing it myself and I have some money set aside, so I might get one come September. My Nook is starting to fail on me a bit, especially when I have to plug it into the computer to transfer eARCs. It won’t recognize it and doesn’t connect on the first try. It’s frustrating, so maybe it’s time for me to get a new e-reader.
Anyways, I hope you have a wonderful week and happy reading, Kim! 🙂

Thanks Nick..yeah I managed to get big checks from both Amazon and B&N. I am really loving the Oasis especially with my RA…no hand pain.

I went to a railroad museum once where I live, it was neat getting to go on the old trains. I’m glad you had a good time with your guests 🙂 It is always bittersweet though when you have to say bye knowing it’ll be a while before you get to see them again. Have a great week this week too!

Glad you had fun with the visitors and your kids! We are having our eldest grandchild fly cross country to spend 2 weeks in July with us. Now I had a call today that my brother and his wife are going to also be visiting us for a few days during my grandkid’s stay because of a work commitment. Luckily they know we downsized to a smaller home and will have a full house so they made plans to stay at a local hotel. We expect to have a great time and I’m taking a mini-hiatus while we have company at that time.

I also got credit for Amazon and B & N, but nowhere in the ballpark of your settlement 🙂 I already started spending mine. Have a great weekend.

Your upcoming plans with family sound wonderful. I am sure it will be lovely. Yes, my settlements with both were rather large and spoke volumes about my

    • kimbacaffeinate

Yes, the house feels very quiet this morning. I am loving the Oasis and will share my thoughts on it once I wear down the battery.

  6. RO

It is always so fun to have family around and to reminisce about things, but the heat can seriously wipe a person out! Glad you were able to get a little reading done, and Dakota Cassidy is so fun. Hope your week is wonderful! hugs…RO

  7. Lover Of Romance

oh glad to see you had a blast with your family!! Its always good to enjoy those fun times. I am pretty thrilled with the Amazon and B&N settlement as well. I have been curious about the Oasis. I have the voyage, so it didn’t seem worth it. But hope you are really liking it!! I do love e-ink readers though. So much better than reading on phone or tablet.

To be honest, I was going to get the Voyage post windfall, but by the time I added cover, plug etc it wasn’t that much more for Oasis and with the windfall I decided to just do it. I will say that with my RA and how much I read the lightness and battery life will be appreciated.

  8. Grace

Sounds like you had a lovely time with your guests. I loved seeing that credit pop up on my Amazon account. I went with the massive book haul. The Oasis looks awesome and glad to hear you are enjoying it. Have a great week!

OMG I just posted a review of And I Darken, I loved it so much and it’s been months since I read it, such an amazing book!

  10. Kim

Wow! Sounds like you had a busy week. And all that in the crazy heat. Seems like you had a nice time regardless though. Hopefully you can enjoy the air conditioning this week. 🙂 The Amazon credit was a lovely surprise. I never actually did get an email about the settlement, but I’m ok with that. I haven’t decided what I’m going to spend the bulk of my credit on yet, but I’ve bought a couple books so far. 🙂 The Oasis looks cool for sure. I already have a Kindle Paperwhite and an iPad. I probably don’t need another device… but if I did, it would be at the top of my wish list!

    Have a great week!

Sounds like you had a fun time with your visitors.

    Happy reading,

Sounds like a wonderful if busy week! It’s always sad to see loved ones leave, and at the same time, it’s kind of nice to get back to the “normal” routine.

Congratulations on your new ereader! I’m sure you’re going to love it. I’ve looked at it, but I’m still pretty happy with my Paperwhite.

Have a lovely week! I’m looking forward to your thoughts on Paper and Fire.

It’s been hot here, too. This weather just plain sucks. The end. lol Glad to hear the visit was fun and that’ll you’ll get to see them again soon. 🙂 And yay for the settlement windfall and the purchase of the Oasis. I hadn’t heard about that one. I guess I’m behind the times. My windfall was my birthdate. $3.19. Too bad it wasn’t $319. lol I hope it cools down and that you have a great week, Kim!

Speaking of… congrats on the new e-reader!!!! The Oasis looks so awesome!! I’m starting to think we all need to start thinking about how our new “habits” are affecting our bodies, especially after what happened to Rachel Caine recently (her neck injury from looking down).

The Oasis is great for my RA, it is so light and the device switches when you change positions allowing me to lay on my side and read.

  17. Mandy

Sounds like an amazing week even though the weather is hot hot hot. It’s been hot here as well in the last week we are in the mid 90’s but next week we should hit the dreaded 100’s.
It’s always enjoyable when family comes to town but sad to see them go. At least August is just around the corner. I’ve been on the fence about the Oasis but I’m so glad your enjoying it. Great deals too. I hope you have a great week keeping cool.

It’s been hot here too so that does make it difficult when entertaining guests. Good to hear you had fun but it’s nice to be able to relax again. I was surprised to get a $100 from B & N. I wasn’t expecting anything but it was a nice surprise. I’m thinking of using the credit to upgrade my Nook but not sure yet. I hope you have a great week and the weather gets cooler.

Yes I managed to get a very nice settlement from B&N as well, but I started on the Nook so that made sense. I have moved away from Nook for 2 reasons.. Amazon Prime free shipping, and eBooks are cheaper..sometimes 2-4 dollars cheaper.

  19. Christina T

Glad you had a good time with your family in spite of the hot weather. I am glad for some sunshine but I have been staying indoors this weekend as it is in the 90s.

I was thrilled to get the credit from Amazon too. I have a Kindle Keyboard but I have been eyeing the Voyage and the Oasis. It is a godsend to be able to read on the Kindle when my wrists are aching! I can’t handle reading heavy hardcover books anymore. I miss reading print books so I do get some from the library but never the big ones. I was thinking of using my credits to purchase the Harry Potter books on Kindle since I only own them in print and Audible. Hope you enjoy the Oasis 🙂

    • kimbacaffeinate

I almost got the voyage but by the time I added cover, and adapter it was almost as much as Oasis so I took the leap..of course the credit made the difference.

  20. Michelle

It was hot this week but not insanely hot. Once the little guy is out of school we can head to the shore and enjoy the town pool. I can’t wait.

I got back $27 from B&N since I really don’t use my nook that much, I was actually surprised to get that.

I hope you have a nice week, Kim, with lots of rest and good reading! 🙂

Here the weather has been warm, but not too warm luckily. That’s awesome you got a new kindle e-reader. I love my Kobo e-reader which has an e-ink device and it pretty light. I also read on my ipad sometimes but usually only during the day and I always put it down on the table in front of me as it’s quite heavy. I hope you’ll have a great week!

Oh, wow! It sounds like you had an absolutely amazing time with your guests! But I’d need a vacation from a visit like that! 😀 I got some B&N settlement money and I’m still deciding what to use it on. I hadn’t thought I’d get anything because I honestly don’t buy all that many ebooks, but I forgot that when I had my Nook all those years ago, I did. 😛 Glad it worked out for you so that you could get the e-ink reader you really wanted. Hope you have a great week and enjoy your new device!

    • kimbacaffeinate

Thanks I had the original Nook eInk but it died and I have had tablets ever since. Yay on the settlement check. I am buying my hardcovers with B&N settlement.

  24. Sophia Rose

The last time we hosted guests like that it was a scorcher, too. Sounds like you had a good time even with the heat. Now to crash and get some rest. 🙂

Nice use of your credits. I got a little so I’ll probably pick up some books off the wishlist, but save the rest for later.

I have been debating on what to use my credit for. I thought about getting a new kindle. I’m rarely outside reading so I couldn’t justify a new e-ink. I thought about a new fire, but don’t really see one that I like better than the one I have. Then I thought about all the downloads I’d have to do again. I want something new though. Oh decisions! I’m glad you’re enjoying your Oasis! Maybe I will save the windfall a little longer. My old eyes seem to be getting tired reading on the Fire, I might need to switch back to e-ink all the time. I’m glad you had a great time with your company!

    • kimbacaffeinate

I use to have the Nook eInk until it died and then had tablets (Fire and NookHD) I gave the Nook HD to my daughter and still use the Fire but I forgot how much faster I read on eInk. What is nice is that there are no distractions like email, social media etc.

  26. Ramona

The Oasis sounds perfect – I do admit to suffering of slight hand pain, lol 😛 It sounds like you managed to do an awful lot of things while playing hostess to a full house despite the tremendous heat – I am very impressed! Over here it has been horribly hot too, so we focused our energies on breathing, lol – anything more than that seemed wildly unreasonable and unrealizable!!! 😀 And your reading & reviewing hasn’t slowed down either! SO impressive…

  27. La La in the Library

It’s tough when close family lives so far away. We have had melty days here to, but thank goodness the nights have been cool. I adored Nona’s Corner last week as you know. I will be looking forward to your thoughts on And I Darken. It seems to be one of those books that readers either love or hate. Have a wonderful week and enjoy your new Oasis! 🙂

So glad you loved Nonna’s Corner. I have all of them done for the rest of the year. I may have to add a second day. Yes, we live in the midwest and all of our family lives on the east coast.

  28. Kristin

I try so hard not to click the buy button on ebooks. So, I only made like $4 with B&N and I haven’t seen anything from Amazon yet. On another note, you are apparently my neighbor. LoL I had no idea we lived in the same area… although I live up north a bit by 40 mins but I’ve been house hunting down there. I love the Old Town Mexican restaurant down there. It’s a bit touristy with them taking your photo to sell it to you and what not but I love their food. Can’t wait to be closer to it all.

Ah my secret is that I schedule ahead! I have one book to read for July, have 1/2 of August done already. I have about 45 posts already scheduled. In fact my biggest problem is having to push my own purchased book reviews back because I see a review book that catches my eye and squeeze it Poor Nora Roberts The Liar has been moved back 5 times since April!

  29. Charlie

I haven’t heard anything about the Kindle Oasis. I went and checked it out. It is very pricey! … But I love it. I want one, too! I hope you enjoy it.

  30. kindlemom1

We are getting ready to melt here again sadly. It was hot and then mercifully cooled off last week and now they tell us starting tomorrow back into the high 90’s and low 100’s, yuck!

Glad your visits went well, it is nice having visitors but it is always nice to have your house to yourself again too. 😉

I loved the credits! It was a very pleasant surprise! I wasn’t even expecting anything since I had no idea there was another settlement. I got a few books off my wishlist but more than anything else, I bought stuff from Amazon I had been eyeing that wasn’t book related and it was so nice.

You are going to love your Oasis!

    • kimbacaffeinate

I am really happy with the Oasis. It is so light and has neat features and zero distractions. Yikes that is hot. This week we are in low 90’s and high 80’s thank goodness.

  31. Angela

It’s always fun to have visitors, but also tiring. Glad you guys had fun. Hope you have a great week and stay caffeinated. Congratulations on getting the Oasis.

Our week was pretty laid back except during the times we went looking at homes to rent. My hubby got in his head, a week before we go on vacation, that we need to find a new place now. We did and once we get back we move.

I did get a nice credit pop up on B&N. I did my book shopping their until this last year when I moved over to Amazon, so no Amazon credit, but that’s ok. I still like B&N and I try to keep series books on the same devices. ^_^

    • kimbacaffeinate

Oh wow Angela you have a busy summer ahead of you. Have an awesome vacation and I hope the move works out 🙂 I got a B&N too, and will use it for hardcover purchases.

  32. Leeanna

The weather this summer is just waaaaay too hot. All the sightseeing sounds fun, though.

    And that Oasis looks awesome!

  33. Melanie Simmons

Guest are a lot of fun, but they can be tiring to (in a good way), especially when it is really hot. I have my mom coming for a week on Friday. I’m hoping it will not be too hot while she is here. The heat really sucks the energy out of me. I’m really excited to hear your thoughts on The Bourbon Thief. I love Tiffany Reisz. Did you read The Original Sinners series, I can’t remember.

  34. Deborah

  36. Karen Blue

Congratulations on all that credit! That Oasis looks awesome. I am so happy to hear you got one for yourself.
Let’s talk about how friggen HOT it was this weekend. I spend all weekend in long sleeves and a helmet trying to learn how to ride a motorcycle. I swear my brain was melting in that helmet. (i passed, but i would not do that again in summer).
Glad to hear the leaving was easier for family this time. It sounds like you guys had a great visit. Have a great week!

I did get a sizable credit from amazon as well. Yes, it definitely shows our reading addiction. Lol. I’m so happy you were able to get the Oasis! Congrats and happy reading.

  38. Lorna

I had never heard of the Oasis until you posted about it on IG. I do have a hand problem and holding my new larger IPhone is really hurting me. But the price was so high even with the settlement. Mine was good but not that good! I hope you continue to enjoy it. Glad you had fun with your company. Running around in that kind of heat can wear a person out though. This is why I hate summer. We are just in the 80’s here-only a few 90’s so far this year. Still a long way to go. Have a good week!

    • kimbacaffeinate

Oddly enough I was going to get the Voyage because I too thought the price was steep, but when I added cord and cover to cart the cost was almost as much as I took the plunge. Oasis has cover and my Fire adapter works for it. It is very light and I love how it can switch hands. With my RA it is wonderful. My Fire is great for too, but between distractions from social media and weight, this is a better pick for straight up reading.
