Sunday Post #203 Taking Control One Book at a Time

And March is here! The Take Control Challenge is underway and I am digging into my tbr pile. For the month of February I read/listened to 19 books. I am currently floating at around 3-4 books behind in my Goodreads challenge and hope to get ahead in March. I ordered my plane tickets for BEA and will be leading a roundtable discussion at Blogger Con. I hope to see you there! I spent Saturday playing with new business card designs and procrastinating over three reviews I have to get done. What I really wanted to do was snuggle up and finish my current book but forced myself to write. I then rewarded myself with some flavored coffee. On Wednesday I have a huge giveaway for special editions of Red Rising by Pierce Brown and will be giving away 25 copies. Be sure to stop in read an excerpt and enter to win. (US/Canada only) Have a wonderful week and stay caffeinated!!

I had a little minor surgery this week, so I lost a few days of moving. However, at the doc’s office I discovered I was down 7 lbs, so I will take it. Especially after the Girl Scout cookie binge.

Oh, I like the idea of your ‘take control of your TBR’ challenge. I haven’t requested anything new for a while so am just getting stuff I’d earlier requested so perhaps I should join….

There’s nothing more stressful (to a book blogger) than an increasing TBR pile!

I’m trying to get control 1 book at a time. This was not a good week for it but I’ve been good the last few weeks so I can give in to temptation a little right? 🙂 I can’t wait to see your thoughts on Me Before You. I’m obsessed with the movie preview! Have a great week!

How fun you’re doing BEA this year, Kim!
And coffee is the perfect reward for you, isn’t it? 🙂
I want to read more books by Lynsay Sands after reading one and really liking it!
Happy reading and have a lovely weekend, Kim!

Girl Scouts cookies- you had to mention those didn’t ya? LOL I love the thin mints. Congrats on the panel, and I’ll have to stop by and check out your Briggs reviews since I’m thinking of starting the Mercy Thompson books. Have a nice week!

I love all the GS The panel should be fun Greg. Oh yes you must read the Mercy Thompson series and Alpha & Omega!

I don’t think there is any way to take control of my TBR. It’s as out-of-control as kudzu. LOL Boo for surgery, minor or not, but yay for down 7 lbs. Girl Scout cookies? We didn’t see any GS cookies, so the supposed calories don’t count. 😉 Have a great week, Kim!

Sssh, we are suppose to fool ourselves into believing we are making a dent in our tbr pile, even though we will add twice as much to our list. Our cookies disappeared quickly!

I can’t wait for BEA! I hope to see you there. I think it’s going to be fun! I am going to miss blogger con because I get in when it starts but I will be at the expo.
I am slow going with Take Control but I should be back on track this week. 🙂 I am looking forward to the 24 hour read-a-thon!

Have a great week, Kim! Happy Reading! ox

I’ll be arriving Tuesday and will leave Saturday. It will be fun seeing everyone 🙂 One book at a time Michelle and you’ll make a dent in the TBR pile. I am looking forward to the thon too, I am hoping to read for the full 24 hours. LOL I haven’t done an all-nighter since my early twenties.

    • kimbacaffeinate

Yes, just precautionary but thanks Laura. I want to read this but worry about starting so late in the series. I have enjoyed her books before. Thanks I am excited about going this year 🙂

  7. Lexxie

I am so looking forward to BEA! And I didn’t even think of mentioning in my Sunday post today that I’ll be leading a round table discussion – bad, bad blogger! – I’ll have to do that next week 🙂
For the past few weeks, I’ve had trouble with the linky / inlinks not loading in Chrome, but they do in Safari… do you have any tips for me so I don’t have to go back and forth?
Have a wonderful week ahead and happy reading!

  8. Maureen Beatrice

Yep.. March is here!! Time goes by fast doesn’t it?! It feels like only a week ago when I was cleaning my house of Christmas decorations.
19 Books that’s amazing. I definitely need to take control of my own TBR but I don’t even know where to start. But it’s getting better. I’m spending more time on my reading than on my social media accounts and blog. And I feel good about that so.. Yay!! 😀
Have a great week Kimberly! 😉

So exciting you are going to BEA and heading a roundtable discussion at Blogger Con, Kimba! It would be fun to go to BEA, but not this year since we are moving this spring. Maybe someday. Have a great week.

I meant to ask, can I enter the giveaway for Red Rising??? I don’t have a finished copy!!!! I’m reading the ARC 😉

And don’t get me started on the reviews I need to write!! UGH!!! 🙁 That’s for today. Like I alluded to yesterday, time is not a friend of mine! Ha!! Happy Lazy Sunday!!

    • kimbacaffeinate

Everyone in US/Canada can enter!!! I need to set time aside this week to write posts myself. I finished 3 yesterday, but have another review to write. A Nonna’s post and Confession post.

  15. Melissa (My words and pages)

Oh wow. I wish I could go to BEA one day. But… well with life and money it’s hard to get there. Hope you have a great time and a wonderful discussion! 🙂

And that’s one huge giveaway coming up! O.O

    Have a great week!

  16. Karen Blue

Yeah! I can’t wait to see you at BloggerCon! This will be my first year going to BEA and I am uber excited. I finally put my business cards together last week. I needed something with my new logo. I put pics of them up on Instagram. I love the new look.
Also, I am really excited about your Red Rising giveaway!
I am a bit behind on my TBR challenge this month, but being sick is not something I can get around. Hopefully this week will be better for me.
    Have a great week!

WOW!!! You’ve had an amazingly busy week. I wish I could say BEA was in my future but with my husband gone so much it’s not a option this year. Maybe next year! Flavored coffee is a the best. Hopefully March will help you get caught up surprisingly this year I’m ahead but not holding my breath that it will last. Thanks for hosting this weekly. Have a great week and happy reading.

I hope you go next year Mandy, it in NYC and I love visiting. I like flavored coffee as a treat, but usually just drink regular.

  18. Rita

Oh is it that time already for BEA coming up?! I always am green with envy, but then I get over it and am super glad that at least my bookish friends get to enjoy it and share all the deets with us here 🙂 Scoops on new titles, author photos, and blogger panel news, yay!

I have Frost Burned on my Kindle and it’s in the running for my TBR challenge this month, so I’ll probably will read it this week or next for sure. I loved the series, then I drifted away after my least-fave, #6 River Marked, and have to come back to it now. All series have their ups and downs for us personally, based on our tastes and our moods.

I’m excited to visit you this week on the blog to enter for a chance for Red Rising and Night Broken! Thanks for the tip– and good luck with your own TBR pile challenge!

I will be armchairing BEA and wishing I could go SO MUCH just one time…at least. I love Lynsay Sands and haven’t read from her Argeneau series in a long time. They are always such fun. I’m on spring break after this week, so I’m hoping to sweep through my ARCs then (they’re piling up), along with a few from my TBR, which are steadily getting knocked out. Have a great week, Kimberly!

I am glad you snapped back from your surgery quickly. I would be happy with seven pounds lost, too! I joined March Take Control and I already have one of the four books I pledged read. Take care and have a wonderful week. 🙂

  21. Kathy

I would love to go to BEA one of this years. It looks like so much fun and how exciting for you to be part of a discussion. Fly With Me looks really good. I’ve enjoyed Chanel Cleeton’s other series so hopefully this is just as good. I hope your feeling ok after your minor surgery and great job on losing 7 lbs! I have Girl Scout cookies in the house and I’ve been trying to ignore them lol. Have a great week!

Lotta irons in the fire for you. But glad you seem to be doing okay after your surgery and were a good girl to get your writing tasks done. lol I still have one more to write before I can start any new books.
Right there with you plugging along through the TBR pile.
Look forward to your Mercy reviews and your Pierce Brown giveaway.
ooh, snagged that fighter pilot romance, too.

    Have a good week!

I love the idea of the Take Control Challenge. I finally managed to get through my TBR pile when I read everything I wanted to and just got rid of those I didn’t. It feels like such a relief.

I do hope you’re recovering well after the surgery – I know you said it was only minor but nonetheless wishing you well. 🙂

    • kimbacaffeinate

Even with arcs I am selective, but yes just randomly browsing my tbr pile is fun too..decisions, decisions, decisions 🙂 Thanks Ceri 🙂

    • kimbacaffeinate

I am listening too, I bought audios on sale last year and hope to listen soon. I started Mercy in book format, but I do listen to and love the Alpha & Omega series.

  26. Kristyn

I love the Taking Back Your TBR challenge! It is really helping me get books off my list! I am trying to stay on top of reviews as well! I like that you give yourself a reward once you get them done I might need to start going that!

    • kimbacaffeinate

Yes,, we all deserve treats for a job well done, even if it’s something small. I try to read no more than two books before stopping to write my reviews, but Saturday I had three of them, and it’s a good thing I did them because I finished a book Saturday night and another on Sunday..LOL

  27. Dani Chapman

I have been catching up on my TBR pile for months now… and I don’t think I have even made a dent in it! 🙂 Have a Happy Week!

  28. Leeanna

I wish I had time right now to do challenges, because your TBR one would be great for helping me get back on track.

Have fun at BEA, it always looks like such a great time!

    • kimbacaffeinate

I am looking forward to meeting you too 🙂 I did so well last week, and this week I have been in such a funk. In part due to headaches that seems to be taking over my life at the Glad you are making progress. The toughest choice has been decided what books to tackle..LOL
