Sunday Post #201 Countdown to Spring

This week’s haul contains audiobooks and books I have been highly anticipating and I dove right in! We are adjusting to our empty nest. The kids love their new place and Sophia’s room is adorable. Despite efforts to savior Morning Star I finished it. I started out with 50 pages a day, then 100 and by 58% I couldn’t stop myself and devoured it..LOL  The March TBR Challenge is just around the corner, as is in the 24 hours read-a-thon. I hope you join us! Mother Nature teased us with spring like weather this week. She is such a tease!  My oldest will turn 25 Tuesday and was home for the weekend. There was ice cream cake. I hope you have a good week. Stay Caffeinated!

After snow on Sunday and a bit of sleet on Monday we’ve also warmed up to Spring-like temps. I’m distrustful of this. lol Happy birthday to your eldest! My daughter likes ice cream cake, but I’m not a big fan. Enjoy your empty nest! At least you still have Princess Sophia during the day. 🙂 Have a wonderful week and *fingers crossed* your warmer weather sticks around.

Mmm, ice cream cake. Now I’m hungry. 🙂 Congrats on your oldest, and glad you got some nice weather. It got a little nicer here too with some sun and warmer temps (relatively), now I’m ready for more! Hope you have a super great week Kimba!

I love your Snoopy quote! (Well, not Snoopy but illustrated with him.) Sounds like you had a really good week and some nice weather to enjoy, as well. I hope this week goes equally well!

I’m so excited for As Good As New! I requested it so fingers crossed I get approved. 🙂
And Marked in Flesh! I devoured the first 3 books in this series and I tell you, Kim, I’m OBSESSED and NEED Simon & Meg together!
And Happy Birthday to your oldest! Anytime there’s ice-cream cake involved, is a good time.
Have a lovely week, Kim! 🙂

Spring like weather seems to have arrived this week here too. It was snowing on Monday! And then yesterday it was definitely light jacket weather. What on earth is going on? 😛

Love ice cream cake. Had it for the first time ever last month and think it might have ruined just about every other cake for me now.

    • kimbacaffeinate

My kids love ice cream cake. So we have 3 a year. I in July and 2 in February! I still prefer cake. I make a marble cake with butter icing that I cover with a thin layer of melted dark chocolate and keep refrigerated, Yum.

I need spring to hurry up it feels like we have been in dull darkness with the weather for years, not months. I really want to try Pierce Brown’s books but just haven’t got to them yet I hear every one loves them. Have a great .

I think I’d use a countdown widget for spring about now, Kim! I’m just ready for winter to be over now.
I bet it’s really strange to have less people in your house, but it must also be kind of nice, no? Especially because you get to see Sophia and the adults very often anyway.
I can’t wait to read your Morning Star review 🙂
Have a wonderful week ahead and happy reading.

  8. Maureen Beatrice

Mother Nature seems to be confused at the moment. Here it’s freezing one day, and sunny and warm the next. And some days it’s raining all day. Brrr.. I can’t wait for the summer to arrive.
Congratulations with your oldest. I’ve never had Ice Cream Cake. Sounds yummy 😉
    Have a great week!

I know what it is like to want to slow down and savor a book but be unable to stop myself from reading it to the end. I tried to do that with Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows but in the end I had to know what would happen and I was afraid that I would inadvertently hear spoilers.

The weather was beautiful this weekend here too. Unfortunately we are supposed to get hit with snow pretty heavily this week to make up for it!

I will have to check out your review of The Shadow Queen. I have that on my upcoming TBR pile.

Hope you have a great week!

  10. Amy

Lol I had one of those books, Chasing Rainbows by Kathleen Long. Totally devoured 😉 I can’t wait for the proper spring weather either, means I can do more in my garden 🙂 I hope your oldest has a great birthday!
    Have a great week,
    Amy x

Mad love for meeting those step goals! I need to take a page out of your book. Kudos snagging Brenda Novak, who I love, and looks like you have some other goodies there. Congrats on your son’s 25th birthday. I remember wanting to get to 25 and stay there! (lol) Happy Sunday! RO

It was my oldest daughter who turned 25, my son celebrated earlier this month and turned 23. It all means I turn 50 in the fall The Novak book is .99 cents on eBook I believe.

  12. Jan

We had a beautiful day here yesterday. The rest of the week is supposed to be cooler and rainy!

I love the Snoopy cartoon. And you got some great books. Hope you enjoy them all!

I have to read Red Rising. I so meant to read it this month, well I guess I still have a little time. I am so excited about Hidden Bodies. You was my favorite book from last year. I feel kinda bad, I took all of yesterday off from reading and just binged watched The Hunger Games.
I was hoping for more snow this year but alas it is spring like outside. Of course this is Connecticut, so we could have snow this whole week and make me eat my words. Have a great week!

Bwahaha..yes us too. The week before our high was 28. The week ahead is cooler but temp lows are in the 40’s meaning folks will be in shorts!

    • kimbacaffeinate

Some books must be hardcover, but it also requires I pull out my sexy librarian glasses. So my prefered format for reading is eReader or audio. Which means I own a lot of books in both or all formats! Especially favorites like the Others and Red Rising.

  14. Kristin

HEY! When is your oldest’s birthday!?!?! I swear, the COOLEST people have birthdays in February 😉 I think everyone got busy in May the year before as soon as it got warm out! Tee, hee!!!

I’m hoping THIS year I can actually have a garden planted around mother’s day!! That’s our time frame for it up here and last two years, the ground wasn’t even close to being ready!! Grrrrrr…. I needs my zucchini bread!

It’s on Tuesday of this upcoming week, so she came home for the weekend. My son’s is at the beginning of the month. My youngest daughter is at the end of July. So we get ice cream cake 3 x’s a year..LOL I will have a patio garden again and hopefully Sophia will help plant it. Ooo I love zucchini bread.

  15. Angela

Loved your totally random this week. That is wonderful news about the kids settling into their new home. I’ve had a few books I tried to saver, but I ended up not being able to put them down. Have a great week and enjoy all those lovely new audios. ^_^

  16. Jessica

OOoh nice! I’m working on getting caught up in Anne Bishop’s Other series! I’m in the middle of book 2! And book 3 is in the TBR mountain somewhere! LOL! Hard to keep track of all them now! Had a moment of panic last night as I apparently thought I already had a book that I just bought, but I couldn’t find it. So I guess I must have gotten my titles mixed up! LOL! Hope you enjoy all the lovely new reads!

Spring is the best season in Florida! It’s not the same as other places but it’s the nicest weather we have all year. Still nice and chilly (70’s) in the morning and breezy for the 80’s-90’s in the afternoon so hanging out in the shade is beautiful.
I’m really looking forward to the TBR challenge in March! I have a nice stack of books I want to get to!

Wasn’t Morning Star great?!? I read it like you. Slow and steady, and then crazy like a fiend. Now that I’m done I’m sad it’s over 🙁 We’ve had weird weather here, too. It’s been near 90, then cool and rainy. It’s supposed to go back up this week, but not as high. Your TBR challenge sounds fun. I should sign up. My plan to stop buying books hasn’t been very effective. Have a great week!

    • kimbacaffeinate

Next week or should I say this week we are in the 40’s all week with snow, but not much accumulation. I am over winter Kristine..over it!

  19. Kathy

Our weather has been gloomy and we got more rain (which is what we really needed). It is nice to have the weather be consistent for once. But my feet are starting to feel uncomfortable in my closed toed shoes so I can’t wait for flip flop weather lol. I have Red Rising and need to start that soon. But I understand how you couldn’t put it down because I’ve been listening to Winter by Marissa Meyer and it is getting really exciting. I’m trying fit in more listening time whenever I can because I can’t wait to see what happens. I can just imagine how cute Sophia’s room is! I loved decorating my girls rooms and the youngest still has the purple walls and butterflies I painted. I hope you have a great week!

I am in Vermont and it has been cold but sunny which is nice, I think today is the warmest we have had and I cannot wait for Spring. Hope you have a great week! I am so excited for March TBR and the 24 hour RAT 🙂

Actually we were empty nesters before the kids moved in with us, aside from our son, but he works nights and sleeps we only see him at dinner.

  21. Lola

We had a cold week here, the water in front of our house even froze a few days. We have lots of wind today. So no spring tease here. That coffee bookmark you got looks awesome! I can imagine it must be hard to adjust to your empty nesty, but that’s great your kids and sophia like their new house. Have a great week!

It was a lovely things to get the windows open and turn the heat off a few times and walk outside without a parka on. But I know its a trick. Spring is not here yet. LOL
Glad the move went well, Sophia has a cute room, and you had time for yummy birthday cake with your oldest.
LOL, I thought you would probably devour Mourning Star. Enjoy all those other lovelies from your haul. Illuminae in HB form is the way to go.

    Have a good week!

    • kimbacaffeinate

It was a trick Sophia, it is cold and rainy today 🙁 I loved Illuminae and am thrilled to have it in hardcover, the eBook edition doesn’t do it justice.

  23. Tyler H. Jolley

Happy birthday to your eldest. We had some beautiful days last week too. I’m looking forward to next week’s weather too. I’m’ ready for spring. I hope this nice weather isn’t temporary.

  24. La La in the Library

I love ice cream cake! I don’t think I commented last week. I was so zoned out on cold medicine I couldn’t remember where I had been, or what I had done anywhere on the internet. Ha ha! Do you still daycare Sophia? I hope they moved close to you. I still have not read my Red Rising and Golden Son ARCs. I know… how awful is that? I am not going to be requesting as many ARCs for summer so I can get some back reading like the Red Rising books and personal reading done. Have a fabulous week. 🙂

Bwahaha…it is alright, I didn’t reply or visit last Sunday. We moved the kids into their new place and after I crashed! Yes, Sophia comes here all week and I love it! I hope you love the Red Rising trilogy as much as I do. I am cutting back on requests and accepting books myself to read my own purchases..LOL

  25. Melissa (My words and pages)

Oh it’s wonderful to get highly anticipated books. 😀 Hope you enjoy them all and have a great week!

  26. Kim

Mother Nature is teasing us this weekend… after snow, freezing rain and regular rain last week. I hope this weather sticks around. I don’t loathe winter, but I’m kinda done with it this year. Mmmmm. Ice cream cake. Sounds like a great way to celebrate.

    Have a great week!

Oh Kim, our cold weather is back, with chance of snow and, I use to love all of the seasons, but my RA makes the winter months miserable.

  27. Mandy

Wow you had an amazing week aside from the empty nest feelings. Everyone love icecream cake. We’ve been teased with spring in the 70’s most of the week. I’m kind of ready for spring but it’s way to early. Looks like you received some amazing books. I loved Illuminae so much. I hope you enjoy your new books and have a great week. Thanks for creating and hosting. I’m signing up for the 24 hour read-a-thon right now. I keep forgetting lol.

Agreed, we are back to winter again here. The teasing will come and go now. We have had snow as late as May, so no flip-flops yet 🙂 Yay..the 24 hour thon will be such fun!!

  28. Kat Morrisey

I love that Snoopy saying! I need a poster size one of those, for my house and my office. LOL

We had a shot of nice, warm weather yesterday and today. Only 50, but still it was nice not to have to wear a winter jacket into every store and the gym! I can’t wait for REAL spring, though. *sighs longingly*

I *think* I’m signing up for the March Challenge. I love challenges. So probably yes. I just need to look at my goals for the month of March and adjust so I can get a bunch of reading in. Thanks for hosting, and have a fantastic week!

I love that quote up there, so true!

Glad to hear you are all enjoying the new living arrangements! I’ve been SUPER slow on the reading end – pretty much at a stand still.

    • kimbacaffeinate

I go through spurts where it takes me a few days to finish a book, and at other times I devour a book a day..LOL Hmm, maybe you need to DNF your current read?

  34. Bookworm Brandee

Sounds like you had a pretty good week, Kimberly. I’m glad you’re adjusting to your empty nest – you know, I bet it’s hard on Sophia to be away from y’all when she’s used to having you around 24/7. It’s a good thing for you both that you still get to watch her during the week. Mother Nature is a tease, isn’t she? We had spring-like temps here as well – sad because the snow is melting. But I do enjoy the smell of wet earth. 😉 Nice book haul this week – congrats on the win! And I love the bookmark!!
    Enjoy the upcoming week! 😀
