Sunday Post #199 Snow Days and Books

Everyone had a snow day on Tuesday. We ended up with about a foot of very heavy snow. My son (middle child) turned 23 and there was chocolate extreme ice cream cake. (enough said) It was a good week and I managed to get some reading done. I completely forgot January stats- despite everything I managed to read  eighteen books/audios. There were however quite a few DNF’s and setting aside of piles. This week there is a signup form for my first ever 24 hour read-a-thon. I hope you will join in the fun. I am also looking for hosts for challenges on Instagram and Twitter-details on Wednesday. Stay Caffeinated and hold on flip-flop season is just around the corner.

Have you read Me Before You Kimberly? I watched the trailer for the movie this week and am really keen to see it!

Will keep an eye out on your readathon… to see when it is Oz time.

Nope which is why I bought the audio. The book has been on my wishlist forever. I did not watch the trailer..they tend to be spoilery.

  2. Greg

Bring on the flip flop weather! I’ll take it… Yay for the snow day and happy birthday to your son! That cake- yeah nuff said is right. Sounds delicious! πŸ™‚

Your snow day discussion sounds fun, and so does the readathon. Happy Sunday!

We are suppose to get a lot more snow this week and possibly next week. I really love winter but I think I have had enough of snow.
Happy Birthday to your son! I hope he had a amazing day.

I need to sign up for the take control of your TBR. I need to write it down since I keep forgetting. I really need it. πŸ™‚

Have a great week, Kim! Happy Reading!

  4. Katherine

Happy birthday to your son though you now have me wanting ice cream cake and chocolate! That’s too bad about the DNFs but you had an impressive month! I”m looking forward to your recommendations for snow day reads. We don’t get much snow here but I can always pretend. Have a great week!

Yeah, my Dad’s death really affected my romance, and nothing that could make me unless the book grabbed me right away I just went on to the next. can call it a “sick day” instead of a snow

    • kimbacaffeinate

Oh the cake was decadent. Hehe pictures of it on Facebook, tag everyone. Tape an image to the fridge, leave post-it notes, and randomly mumble chocolate extreme ice cream cake.

  5. Red Iza

That chocolate extreme ice cream cake ? Come on, you can’t leave us hanging, give us the recipe please ! You have snow ? We had 59Β°C yesterday, sunshine and… the cranes came back, we couldn’t believe our eyes and ears !
This is my final Sunday post, I’m closing the blog and I really wanted to thank you so very much for creating that meme and allowing me to meet so many bloggers. I left a picture for you on my last meme πŸ˜‰ See you on Facebook (I haven’t forgotten the book club, I had no time to participate last month but I’ll catch up !) Take care, Kim <3

Hehe…Here is the recipe: Get in your car. Drive to Dairy Queen, Open freezer case, select Chocolate Extreme Ice Cream Cake. Take to Counter, ask them to write Happy Birthday. Bwahaha.
What? *wipes tears* Ooo I will miss your reviews and posts. I am glad we are friends on Facebook and that you are in the book club!! Anytime you want to guest post..let me know!!

      • Red Iza

LOL, so I have to go to the US or Canada and eat it there if I don’t want to have a chocolate extreme *cream* cake ! Oh well, I’ll survive, we have good cakes here too, just not extreme πŸ™‚ Thanks very much for the offer, Kim, see you on FB πŸ˜‰

Despite hating cold weather I have to say I would like one big snowfall…we’ve had none this winter – just wind and rain. The cake sounds a great way to eat away a snow day. Have a good week. Emma

Ah, snow. We’ve only had one (BIG) storm and I’m already sick of it. Of course, they’re calling for more on Tuesday… which is also my birthday… obviously I’m thrilled. Haha.

We have a possibility of 1+ inches of snow here in the DC area next week…lol. They’re serious about any amount of snow here! Happy birthday to your son.

We’re practically in flip flop weather here. Though it’s gotten below freezing at night the days, for the most part, have been not too shabby. I think I can safely say the seasons are all screwed up here. But I’m ready to get outside and start planting. πŸ™‚ Excellent book haul! Enjoy and have a wonderful week, Kim!

We had a couple of lovely cool days here last week, but summer has come back with a vengeance πŸ™ it’s going to be 110 F tomorrow and I am not looking forward to it one bit! On the plus side, I get to stay indoors all day!

I hope that you enjoy all of your new reads πŸ™‚ ice cream cake sounds like quite the treat!

  13. Melanie Simmons

I’m so glad that you’re starting The Edge series on audio. It was a great series by Ilona Andrews. We haven’t gotten hardly any snow this year. My grass has never been completely covered. I’ve been able to see the tips of grass sticking up. It has made me sad. If it is going to be cold, we might as well have snow and it be pretty, but not this year. I still have a chance for another month or so, but I’m not holding my breath. I’m a huge fan of ice cream cakes. Sounds wonderful. Happy Birthday to your son. πŸ™‚

I see the snow day inspired a book list! Happy birthday to your son, and I hope you enjoyed the cake. As for moving, I need to borrow your dedication – can you spare a little? πŸ˜‰ Your new books look good, and I’m looking forward to the TBR Pile challenge.

Oh wow! You got a good bit of snow. It’s been chilly here, but we’ve been lucky this week on the snow. The groundhog didn’t see his shadow so we will be on to spring here soon. And the scientists agree with him for once. lol.

Hope you have a great week!

Wow! That’s a lot of snow if there’s a snow day! I loved snow days when I was in school! Just as long as there wasn’t too many that our last day of school gets pushed further ahead! LOL!

I hate to mention this but I think we are getting flip flop season early, it is supposed to be in the high 70’s here all week. I guess we are having a short winter which is too bad since we need the rain. The ice cream cake sounds yummy (we eat ice cream in the winter too). I have to read Me Before You before the movie comes out. It sounds so good. Have a great week!

We didn’t get any snow this year so far and I doubt we will get any snow later this year. I kinda miss the snow as it always looks so pretty. Yum that chocolate extreme ice cream cake sounds delicious! Breaking the Story sounds good, but I am a bit hesistant to read thrillers as I am not a fan of the genre, will consider it a bit more. I hope you’ll have a great week!

Ah, Snow days. We never get those, but I’m okay with that. I love the sound of that cake! My bday was last week and the husband got me an ice cream cake too. πŸ™‚

I’m curious to see what you think of Me Before You.

I’ve been trying to do more on Instagram, so I’ll look at doing a challenge and see if I can.

    • kimbacaffeinate

Usually we don’t either, but with the blizzard conditions it was a good call. Oh I would love to have you host a challenge. I think you can do ones like show a pic of your favorite reading spot, Share books with blue colors, create a theme etc. Let me know πŸ™‚

  25. Michelle

Happy birthday to your son! Now snow here…I’m somewhat thankful for that. I do hope we get some, but only enough for Leia (my dog) to play in since she loves it so much. We’ll probably end up sleet on Monday or Tuesday.

I’ll definitely have to sign up for your readathon, I have a lot of books to get through. I hope you have a good week Kimba! Drink lots of coffee and eat lots of sweet!

  26. Lorna

You are reading the BDB series? I read like the first 8 or 9 of those back to back-they were addicting to me, but now not so much. I hope you are enjoying them. Looks like you got a lot of good books, that’s a lot to receive in one week. How do you ever choose what to read?? Hope you have a good week and stay warm πŸ™‚

    • kimbacaffeinate

LOL yes finally. They have been on my wishlist forever! With Xoxperts they ask that we select one book to read/review. It’s fun deciding. Sometimes I read a few and others times only one really appeals to me

    • kimbacaffeinate

We do too, but not happening this is freezing, there were snow flurries this morning and it is so windy! I am staying indoors πŸ™‚

  27. Kat Morrisey

Um, Chocolate EXTREME ice cream cake? Woah. I think I need this, asap! πŸ™‚ I love snow days, but I can’t wait for flip flops, too. And not having to wear a jacket. Winter jackets are so bulky and I so don’t like them! Have a great week!

Good luck with the 24 hour read-a-thon! And Happy Birthday to your son (:
Flirting with Fame looks like a book I could cuddle up with. I’m sure I’ve seen it around before. Great job moving for #FitReaders – I’ve been sick but at least a got to go to the gym at least once this week.

    Happy birthday to your son!

I haven’t read Me Before You but after seeing that Finnick and Daenarys (I can’t remember their real names, so I’ll just use their character names from other projects) are in it, I’m definitely interested. Hearing that the trailer will make me cry makes me hesitate though. I’m not a fan of tearjerkers! Enjoy your week!

Anyone who lives here will say I’m crazy, but I would love a decent snow day. I don’t think we’ve had more than a few inches all winter. I just want a good snowfall so my son and I can make a snowman.

Looks like you got a great haul in this week! I’ve been cutting back on trying to bring in more books. I’m completely behind on my current list.

Mmm, ice cream cake! It sounds like you had a good week, Kimberly. You’re moving and reading AND you had ice cream cake! πŸ˜‰ I wondered how much snow you might get. We got closer to 2 ft here. I enjoyed a snow day with my kids. πŸ˜€ You picked up some good looking books this week. I’m happy to see On the Edge on the list. πŸ˜‰ Have a great week, my friend!!

This winter is killing me! Our kids had a snow day last week and that always throws a wrench into the day. But they enjoyed playing in the snow. Happy birthday to your son!

  35. Charlie

I also completely forgot my January wrap up post. Aaarr! I thought I had everything scheduled. – look how well I deceive myself! haha I would like you to send this snow on down, Kimba. I could use an ice day, which is what we get here in Texas.

  36. La La in the Library

Sorry I am so late to the party! I don’t think I have ever linked up on a Monday before, let alone a Monday NIGHT. We kept having problems with our electricity going off and on yesterday. It is still a mystery. I have seen Me Before You around a lot, but I haven’t really looked into it. I will be looking for your review. We have gotten about zip zero snow here all winter, but we have a snow storm coming Saturday. Have a wonderful week and a Happy Lunar New Year!
