Sunday Post #190.  December seems to be on warp speed and I am feeling harried. I did manage to get 95% of my Christmas shopping done between online deals over the weekend and cyber Monday. I loathe the malls and would be perfectly happy to do all my shopping online. On Thursday Mr. Caffeinated is taking the day off and we will finish our shopping. We make a day of it and usually enjoy a meal while we are out. We decorated our home for the holidays last weekend. We only put one tree up this year, and a lot of decorations were nixed since Princess Sophia is living with us. Those grabby hands are everywhere! I hope the holidays aren’t stressing you out, that you are finding time to read and as always that you are staying caffeinated!

Oh I remember that first Christmas! I think we ended up putting up little cheap plastic ornaments that we had picked up randomly through the years and never really put on the tree and everything else was put up super high. Not quite as pretty but way more fun! Congrats on getting the bulk of your Christmas shopping done! I got the really hard people to buy for taken care of so I’m pleased with that but I still have bunches to do. I’m trying to stay on top of it so I don’t end up a frazzled mess. Have a fantastic week!

We put a tree up in the formal living room and have blocked it off..LOL Our mantel is decorated and things up high..LOL. Yes,we have lots of family out of town and I got all of that done, plus some deals for my children. It is a crazy time of year, and yes if you don’t keep a check list and move along it can get stressful.

  2. Deborah

Oh I didn’t know Sophia was living with you. That’s nice but I get your point about the decorations… It’s been ages since I’ve been around a toddler but I recall having to put decorations higher on the tree and out of range of interested fingers!

Love a few of the books on your list as usual this week – The Girl From Everywhere looks particularly intriguing!

    I love the superpower meme!

    • kimbacaffeinate

Yes, she and her parents are living with us, and putting their rent money in the bank so they can buy a home. I watch Sophia during the day while they work, so it all works out lovely. It has been interesting having a little one in the home again. I think my husband and I are enjoying it a lot more the second time. When ours were little they we had our hands full with 3 little ones.

  3. Greg

Ho ho isn’t shopping fun? I’m with you on the malls, not this time of year. 🙂 I’m a convert to online shopping too, I’ll have to venture out for a few things but hopefully nt many. And yeah the month is going to blow by, just like Nov. did. Glad you got a good start…

    I like that pic! 🙂

Honestly you can buy anything online. Tonight I was tickled to find that I could buy gift cards for my retired parents at their favorite restaurant on Amazon. We don’t have the resturant in our state, so I googled to see if I could buy gift cards online and was shocked when Amazon popped up.

  4. Michelle

I haven’t started shopping yet…honestly I’d be okay if I never started. That sounds like a scrooge thing to say but the holiday season is my least favorite time of the year. So loud…so many people…so many of the same songs playing over and over…so much money gone. I think I might pull a Ninth Doctor and give the gift of breath from my lungs. 😛

I hope you get the walking situation figured out and have an awesome week!

That chart was hilarious. When my kids were small we use to get real trees. I remember when my son was almost two my husband bolted the tree to the wall.

  5. Lover Of Romance

I love this time of year but then I hate it. I don’t mind the malls, but I stay away from them the closer it get to Christmas. That is awesome your making a fun date out of the rest of your shopping though. If your going to go out in the craziness….you gotta have your partner in crime right? LOL Great books you got. I love Tracy Anne Warren…she is great. And Yeah for Arnie’s story, I can’t wait to read it.

    • kimbacaffeinate

We have done the date thing every year since the kids were small. Back then it was a necessity to get it all done in one day since we paid a sitter and the tradition just stuck.

  6. Bea

I imagine Sophia is loving the decorations you do have. up. Little just light up and love the holidays. I’m envious you got most of your shopping done; I still have a lot to do. Have fun on Thursday!

Hey, how are you feeling. I have been thinking about you since seeing your Facebook statuses. We have to shop for a lot of out of state family, so I have always had to keep shipping in mind and those free shipping incentives are enticing.

  7. Lexxie

But her grabby hands are so cute 😀 It’s hard with small children, because safety has to come first, and so many ornaments have small pieces on them…
I’m glad you’ve almost finished your Christmas shopping. Time does seem like it’s speeding up, there is still quite a lot to do, but I’m sure I’ll get it all ready.
I got “Fighting Dirty” this week, too, and I’m so excited to finally read Armie’s story 🙂 I hope you’ll enjoy both that and your other books, Kim.
Have a wonderful week ahead and happy reading.

    • kimbacaffeinate

We put the tree up in the living room and blocked it off. We usually have one in our family room as well by the fireplace..but she is way to curious and it will be less stressful keeping that room safe.

  8. Annemieke

We’ll be putting up the Christmas tree today.
I hope you’ll enjoy the last shopping trip with mr. caffeinated. At least that way you can make a fun day out of it. I prefer shopping online most of the time as well. Just too many people.

I am all online shopping here with the exception of maybe a Target trip or two. It is so funny because when my daughter was smaller we could still put out the tree where she would be and the decorations and all that. She would listen and not touch. Now with my son who is two no way!! He gets into everything so we moved all the decorations into the dining/living area where it is gated off. Hope you enjoy Nightingale – one of my favorites. Have a great week!

We didn’t even test the theory, but I can tell you my girls were fine, with my son we secured the tree to the wall and put all none breakables on the lower half of tree.

  10. Lillian

Little man didn’t do too bad his first Christmas. We showed him one ornament that was “his” on the tree and that was the only one we let him touch. He was good about getting only that one off the tree. But of course I didn’t put any breakable ornaments on that year either. I could just see the tree coming down on him
Looking forward to your review of See Me! Have a great week and fun Christmas shopping!

My girls were good. Sophia likes to take things apart, and explore everything.:) She may have been ok, since she understands no, but I figured it was better to keep the family room stress free.

  11. Kim

I’m so jealous you have as much of your Christmas shopping done as you do! I took advantage of some Black Friday/Cyber Monday deals but they were more for me than for gifts. Thankfully I don’t have TOO MUCH shopping to do and I think the bulk of it can be very easily done online. I just can’t with the whole shopping in stores thing. I thank 8 years in retail management for that.

    Have a great week!

LOL, I may have picked up a few things for myself too Kim. All of our family is out of state, so mailing on time is important and those free shipping offers made it sweet.

  12. La La in the Library

Six of Crows! I will be looking forward to that review. My son’s first mobile Christmas we already had unbreakable ornaments for the bottom half of the tree because of our two cats, so we were all set. Ha ha! I didn’t post a Sunday Post last week because of the flu. The only person I buy real gifts for is my son. Everyone else gets chocolate, or money and chocolate! Have a wonderful week. ☺

LOL, that is how we did our tree when the kids were small. We just blocked off the room with the tree and didn’t put the tree up in the family room.

awe thanks for the mention Kim, it was the best memory and the most fun I EVER had on a vacation. I missed your review of Highlander’s Curse but just now went and read it, (I’m listening to it right now) I miss the patter of little feet, am jealous :). It’s a lean year at Casa Haupt because of my early retirement but will still enjoy the love and getting together with family and friends for the holidays. Great Meme!

  14. Jessica

OOh nice! I am curious about The Girl from Everywhere! And I still need to read Six of Crows!! Ah yes, I remember when we had to cut back on decorations when my niece was little. I bet Princess Sophia really keeps you on your toes! She’s so cute though!

Happy Reading (and shopping) this week! I have most of my Xmas shopping done too. Hoping to go out today and buy the last few gifts I need to buy! No idea what they will be, but I am hoping to find something just to be done! LOL!

  15. Melanie Simmons

I only put up one tree. I actually put my second tree and all it’s stuff in a garage sale. I haven’t put it up in years and it was just taking up closet space. We don’t do a whole lot outside of a tree a few other things. I agree December and this whole year is going so fast. It seems like it was just summer a few weeks ago.

I have a treadmill and I love it. I have it setup with a TV with Netflix. I’ve binge watch several series there. I definitely feel like I’ve gotten my money’s worth. I live out in the country, so I would be walking on country roads, which is scary in daylight sometimes, not to mention if it sun isn’t up.

    • kimbacaffeinate

I think I would listen to audiobooks on the treadmill but my hubby would watch shows. I like the second tree since our family room is in the back of the house with the kitchen and we cannot see the one in the formal living room.

  16. Yvonne

You are so right that December is already flying by…I just can’t believe how fast everything is going. We already went to our first holiday party last night. I’m with you – I hate mall shopping. I do everything online and it’s been working for me.

    Have a great week!

    • kimbacaffeinate

LOL, I still have to finish up our family and get stocking stuffers, buy all the baking ingredients, bake, send cards..yada, yada, yada!!

  17. Mandy

Looks like you had another fantastic week. I agree so far we are only a week into December and I feel rushed. Eek I still have lots of shopping to do. That’s great your almost done. A shopping date sounds like a perfect way to finish off your list. We only did one tree this year as well and minimal decorations but it’s dog related. I can’t wait to read your review of November 9 I’ve been looking forward to it. Have an amazing week and thanks for hosting!!!

We only have 18 days left until Christmas and I have a feeling that is going to go very quickly. I hate that this time of year goes by so fast. I try to enjoy at as much as I can.
When my kids were little I changed the theme of my tree and added more fluffly stuffed character and plastic balls and tried to make it more colorful for them. They still love the fluffy guys and now I can buy more fragile stuff since they know not to touch the tree.

Thanks for sharing COYER and I sent you an email about what day the tradition will go up, if you didn’t get it let me know and I will send it again!

Have a great week, Kim! Happy Reading! ox

    • kimbacaffeinate

That is a clever idea, we did similar when mine were small, by the time we started to do 2 trees they were older. I did get it and will uplift. I added it to my calendar. .

  19. Kathy

I’m so jealous I haven’t even started shopping yet. But a majority on my list are teenagers so I just give them cash lol. Your Christmas is going to be so much fun now that Sophia is older. I even had to be careful with my decorations because of our dog, I don’t want her eating or breaking anything lol. I hope you have a great week!!

I love the holidays! Like you, I would be very comfortable doing most of my shopping online. I hate crowds and I hate rude people and Christmas shopping at the mall seems to bring out both types of people. I hope you enjoy The Nightingale. I do believe that is one of my favorite books read this year. I loved it!

December is flying past and I am starting to panic… I will be away visiting family in just a few days and I’m not even halfway through the Christmas shopping. Luckily, I like doing most of it online, too. I know what you mean about grabby little hands and Christmas decor. When Robin was little, we put only unbreakable ornaments on the bottom of the tree. Now we have to do the same thing because of the cats!

I wish you a wonderful week, and plenty of time to read. I’m looking forward to a week with my dad and stepmom, relaxing and reading and just hanging out with them — and seeing a bunch of family on their side as well. 🙂

    • kimbacaffeinate

Ha cats and trees. We did the same thing but back then we only had one tree. so we figured one was enough. No sense in tempting her too much.

  22. A Voracious Reader

Great job on the Christmas shopping! I think I only have about 10% done right now. lol I do have 100% of the Christmas decorating complete though. 🙂 Have fun with the Christmas shopping! It’s still early enough that the crowds should be minimal. At least that’s what I’m hoping when we go Friday. 😀

This month is just flying by! I am not ready for Christmas at all. Thankfully I only have a few presents to buy. I prefer shopping online too though some things you just have to buy in the store. I used to enjoy going to the mall at Christmas. My parents go to a mall that isn’t usually crowded and it always has this amazing holiday scent in the air (I think they pump it through the vents to make people hungry and put them in the mood for holiday shopping).

I saw that The Nightingale was on sale on Kindle last week but I already own a copy. That is probably my favorite book of 2015. I look forward to your thoughts on See Me. I never did get to finish it before I had to return it to the library. For some reason I struggled to get into the story.

    • kimbacaffeinate

I am looking forward to reading it Christina. Good luck shopping, and hopefully the mall won’t be too busy during the day 🙂 See Me was very different from most of his books, I listened and I think that helped.

Wow Sunday Post 190 already! It’s impressive to realize how long you’ve been hosting this already! I stil have to do some christmas shopping, but also have a few things already. I also got a copy of the Witchign Hour gifted by an author, it was so nice of her! Have a great week!

December has been fast moving! I can’t believe we’re already 1/4 of the way through! Of course, I’ve had little time to sleep this past week, so it seems like it’s literally flown by! I will be putting up my little tree (3 or 4 feet?) this week with my helper elf, Baby. She surprised me last year and did not mess with the tree at all. We should all share photos of our trees! Happy reading!

  26. Kristin T

I totally agree – this month is flying by!!! I’m so not ready and I don’t even have a lot of gifts to buy this year…I really need to get my butt in gear!!! We aren’t putting a tree up this year b/c no one will be here, but I’m attempting to do a book tree – I”m going to work on that today…we’ll see how that goes. Hopefully my 2 dogs will leave it alone 😉

I loved your wish list and have my eye on a similar chair/ottoman for my library/office when it gets finished (if it ever gets done!!!) I’m glad to know that I’m not the only one who hasn’t read Kristin Hannah’s The Nightingale yet…and I’m definitely doing the audio of it…I have it on hold at the library…hoping it comes in before the end of the year!

I agree – this time of year makes it hard to get out and get moving!!! I tend to head to the mall instead of the gym to get my walks in…just for a change of pace. But any movement is better than sitting on the couch all day 🙂 Have a great week!!!

This year sure did go by really fast! I’m excited for 2016 though. It wasn’t the best year for me sadly.

  28. Braine

We have a toddler in the house too so our tree looks half decorated as the ornaments were placed in a height where them grabby hands can’t reach!

Happy shopping with the mister next week!

  29. Kristin

Hi Girlie! Awesome books this week! I’m laying low this weekend, trying to get caught up on bloggie stuff, graphics and junk!

I actually JUST asked for Lori Foster’s book so we’ll see if I get it – HQN hates me normally! tee, hee. That’s why I like Edelweiss, I’m so anonymous there.

Have “fun” shopping this week… that’s so sweet the hubs takes you out to do it, all date-like 🙂 He really is a keeper!!! Stay warm over there!!!

I don’t know if this is an option for you but we love our elliptical way more than we ever did a treadmill, plus it seems to be easier on my back and knees. Just a thought. 😉

Yay for the holidays but I agree that it already seems like it is flying by, it will be here before we know it.

  31. Nise'

Yep, we had to rethink our decorations as well with an 18 month old running around! Can’t wait to read Armie’s story in Fighting Dirty. I need to get with it and get the shopping done! Have a great week.

  33. Teddyree

Our Christmas tree still isn’t up but I know I’ll be rethinking decorations with Miss Mia and her octopus arms. I hear you on the shopping– I enlisted hubs to help me do most of our shopping online, and we have Amazon Prime, so free 2 day shipping.

When our kids and grandkids were at that “grabby” stage we would put our tree in a baby “corral”, you know, those baby gates that snap together to make a large hexagonal pen. Then we could enjoy your decorations without fear of little hands…. though the cats were not deterred by it, lol!

I ended up Black Friday online buying for me, instead of others. I know that sounds bad, but I just kept finding things I needed at unbelievable prices. I am still dealing with my slowly(hopefully) dying cat, so I have been really busy with her and all her problems, Therefore, money and gift cards are going to be my go to this year! Babies and children make Christmas for me, so I know you all are going to have a wonderful time with Sophia. On another note, I will be excited to see what you think of The Nightingale. It features a bit about death camps and usually I don’t read that kind of thing, but this one is just wonderful.I hope you enjoy! I, also hope you and your husband have a good mean and shopping trip!
