Sunday Post

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted here @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news~ A post to recap the past week on your blog, showcase books and things we have received. Share news about what is coming up on our blog for the week ahead. See rules here: Sunday Post Meme

This week my youngest turns 21 and Sophia will be 6 months old. Lord how time flies. Sophia is crawling and into everything keeping her Nonna very busy. I am doing much better although I still have a cough and nights are the most difficult. My voice hasn’t returned. It is rather raspy and those around me comment that it sounds painful, but thankfully it doesn’t hurt all that much. Things I learned this month- it takes a blood-shot eye a month to heal, its OK to admit you cannot keep up and it’ perfectible acceptable to lean on others. (They will still think you are a super Mom/Woman)  I hope you are enjoy your week, stay caffeinated and spend some quality time with your loved ones.

Glad your cough is better. Your sexy new raspy voice will take longer to heal. Keep being the great mom and Nonna everyone knows you are.

  2. Michelle

I’m glad you are feeling better than last week. Looks like you got a lot of review goodies this week. I want to try Illumine out, but I’m trying to stay away from review books as much as possible now. I request only one or two every couple of months now.

Wow, look at all your review books! I’m glad you’re getting better and yes, it is okay to ask for help. 🙂 I can’t believe Sophia is 6 months already, eeep! Happy birthday to your youngest.

I’ve been meaning to look at your Jayne Castle review. I like her work as Krentz a bit better – not quite as supernatural etc… but keen to hear what you thought of it nonetheless!

Sorry to hear you’re still not well! Take care.

Aw, the fam rocks. Glad you have support when you’re so sick. You should take a picture of your eyes everyday until they’re cleared, and then make one of those videos. Make it go backwards so it looks like your eyes are getting red. lol

It’s amazing how fast our kids grow and even when they are done growing the time flies just as fast. Totally not fair. lol Glad you are on the mend. I’ll send some more {{{posivibes}}} your way to kick the rest of that sickness to the curb. Have a wonderful week, Kimba!

Happy to hear you are doing better! I was approved for Illuminae on Netgally, but was bummed it wasn’t downloadable to my Kindle. There is no way this old back can sit and read from a laptop, especially after working on a computer most of the day. I emailed them and asked if I could have a physical copy, but I haven’t heard anything yet. Yay for Halloween. It will be so much fun this year for you with it being Sophia’s first costume. Have a wonderful week. 🙂

I’m glad you are finally starting to feel better, Kim! Have you been back to the doctors? Leaning on people is actually a show of strength, respect and love – letting your loved one take care of you make them feel stronger, too 🙂 I am glad they were there for you to lean on this week.
Happy birthday to your youngest! And Sophia is already six months old? She must have become so big.
All your new books look great, and I’m a little jealous of Illuminae 😉
Sending you healing thoughts, and wishing you a fantastic week ahead.

  10. Amy

I’m glad you’re doing a little better now. I thought it was really sweet what you said about Super Mum/Woman! It’s definitely true though. I hope you get your voice back soon.
Happy birthday and happy half-birthday to your youngest and Sophia 😀 Whoop!
    Have a great week,
    Amy x

Glad you’re feeling better. Can’t wait to hear your thoughts on Bourbon Kings – I haven’t read JR Ward in a while but did enjoy other books. Hope you enjoy all your new books this week!

Ooooh. All kinds of new goodies for review this week. I’ve heard great things about Illuminae. I was fortunate to get my hands on a copy at BEA, but I haven’t read it yet. Soon… ish. Have a great week! Hope your voice comes back soon.

Sophia is crawling already? Awe , that is such a precious age. I have fond memories of my babies getting into everything. It’s a good thing they came out cute, it made it easier to forgive them. I am happy to hear you are recovering.
I am so jealous you got Illuminae, it might be my most coveted arc. I need it! I am looking forward to your review.
    Have a great week!

hummm it seems you’ve had a tough year so far Kim. I hope you get better soon. I want to thank you for doing the Sunday Post every week so faithfully, even the weeks you have been sick. It is such a great feature to know what is happening around and connect with other bloggers.
Time does fly when you have kids/grandkids 🙂
I loved your review of Siren’s Call By Jayne Castle but when I went to GR to add the first book to start the series got a little discourage. OMG there are gazillion books and series and they seem to overlap (e.g. #4 of one series is #11 of another). I think it was late at night and I was tired lol I’ll try again soon

    • kimbacaffeinate

The series has a lot of mini series and trilogies within, but you can jump in at the beginning of the Rainshadow mini-series with the Lost Night.

There were several months this year (from March through June) where I was so sick, relapse after relapse of the same upper respiratory infection and the cough. UGH! I finally had enough after rounds of antibiotics that weren’t helping and supplements from my chiropractor were helping but not getting rid of it so I bought some Essential Oils from Young Living from my aunt who swore by them for many things. I got a diffuser on Amazon and bought the YL oil called SniffleEase (actually in their children’s line). Just a few nights of diffusing it for 3 hours at night and a couple times during the day later and the cough was gone and hasn’t returned. At the slightest scratchy throat now we diffuse it at night and every time the scratchy throat is gone in a day. I’m not going to say Essential Oils are miraculous or anything but that one sure helped me. Since then I’ve gotten lemon, peppermint and lavender and am slowly becoming 100% sold on their amazing benefits. Might be something to try if nothing else seems to be helping.

    Enjoy all your new books!

OOOh nice haul! Have been seeing Illuminae around a LOT over the past few months! Starting to get curious now! LOL!

Totally with the picture of Wednesday Adams! The stores are all getting their school supplies out and I’m trying to see if the Halloween stuff is in another aisle already! LOL!

    Happy Reading!

Kimba, I’m glad you’re feeling so much better! Keep on taking care of yourself – it takes a long time to bounce back from a bad illness.

Six months! The time does fly. I’ll bet she’s cute as a button and has her parents and Nonna wrapped around her tiny fingers.

Gotta run – I’m late for church and then we’re headed out on a family excursion. I’ll be back tomorrow to check out your Siren’s Call review, which I missed. Can’t wait for my preorder!

I LOVE your family!! They rock! It must be kind of surreal going from running full speed last summer with the wedding to relaxing, being taken care of and having a grandchild now. I bet you’ve learned a lot about yourself because you actually have time to think this year 🙂 And read all those awesome books you just got!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think I’m going to let everyone else read Illuminae for me 😉 Jay Kristoff rubs me wrong when he pontificates….

Good day — I really hope you continue to mend. It’s not fun being ill — and it cramps your style!

I must point out that I feel a bit dishonest every time I check the box next to “Confirm you are Caffeinated and NOT a spammer.” I’m not a spammer, but I’m also NOT caffeinated. Due to orders from my doctor, I’ve had to swear off caffeine. Been trying this for about 6 months, but it’s been 2 months since I slipped some in. I sure seem to yawn a lot these days.

Happy birthday to your youngest, and try to not think in numbers. 😉 Aww, and crawling. Before you know it all will not be safe. 😉 lol. Ugh, those coughs seem to stick around for far to long. Hope you get through it all.

Hope you have a great week.

Aw I can’t believe your voice isn’t back!! Happy Bday to your youngest!! 😀

And I can’t believe she is crawling already! Where does the time go?

It’s good to hear your feeling better but coughs are a pain. They linger forever. I still have my cough and it wakes me up at night. The doctor prescribed me cough medicine with codeine but I had a hard time waking up for work lol. So I try not to take the medicine all the time. I hope you feel better soon!

Time does fly by fast! It’s hard to believe Sophia is 6 months old. Now there will be more exciting milestones she’ll be achieving. I bet she will be a handful but a lot of fun!

I received a copy of Illuminae at Comic Con and at first I didn’t take it. The size of the book is huge (I was worried about carrying it around lol). But I’m glad I did. It sounds interesting. Hopefully we will both enjoy it.

    Have a great week!

Glad you’re feeling better though too bad about the cough and the raspy voice. I hate losing my voice and always end up doing bizarre versions of charades. I can’t believe Sophia’s already crawling! It feels like yesterday you were posting about her being a newborn! Have a great week and get some rest!

Thank goodness you’re starting to feel a little better. Turning 21 is quite a milestone. Remember drinking my first Hurricane in New Orleans when that happened, and having the little one crawl sounds so neat! Looking forward to reading your review of Bourbon Kings by JR Ward. Happy Sunday and BIG Hugs…Ro

  26. Ramona

Glad you’re finally feeling a little better! I had no idea that it took so long for the vessels in the eye to heal… Oh, I wouldn’t worry about leaning on people, lol. Last week, I nearly passed out exercising, and Hubs had to carry me into the kitchen and feed me, which I had forgotten to do myself. I think that, secretly, they like it when we need them like that 🙂 Lots of good new books for you. Can’t wait to hear your thoughts on Go Set A Watchman!

Gosh, I really hope you bounce back 100% soon! Taking care of Sophia and running after her might be slowing your progress, but it’s necessary and lovely, so oh well.
I do want to read a Jayne Castle, so thanks for reminding me of her various series! Get better and have fun with the birthdays this week.

I hope you continue to feel better this week!

I’ll have to check out your review of The Coincidence of Coconut Cake. I loved the book and posted my review this past week too.

I am curious about Illuminae. I’ve really enjoyed the Starcrossed books by Amie Kaufmann and I’ve heard good things about Jay Asher’s writing too.

  31. Teddyree

It takes me a few days to recover physically from having my granddaughter but I wouldn’t have it any other way. It’s so frustrating to not be 100% well but I love your attitude and I’m sending rainbows packed with well wishes.

I loved your coconut cake book review, can’t wait to read that one and eat cake. Also looking forward to your thoughts on The Bourbon Kings. And awesome book haul … ooh I love Tess Gerritsen, and I want Illuminae!

Bummer when an illness lingers. That is so true that it doesn’t hurt to accept help when you’re down. Amazing how quickly the baby’s grow and move through the development ages. Fun to watch them!

Wow, you snagged a lot of books this haul and it looks like you were a lucky winner quite a few times. 🙂

  33. Lorna

I hope you are feeling better really soon. You have had a really rough time and it really should be clearing up faster! Summer colds are just not fair 🙂

  34. MarthaE

I am glad you are feeling better and hopefully not contagious. I stayed away from everyone over the weekend since I developed an awful hacking cold.
Hmm -youngest 21.. those milestones just keep coming. My DH and I will be married 30 years in November which puts our son at 30 next year and daughter the year after. 🙂
I plan to take a look at Undying Legion and The Scorch Trials. I haven’t used my July credits yet so I have to decide from my lengthy wish list.
I hope this week is good to you. Happy Reading and sipping!

  35. Bookworm Brandee

I like the lessons you learned over the last month. I’m just sorry it took being sick to learn them. We women/moms have a hard time letting things go or leaning on others and it’s easy to regress. 🙂 Take care of you and continue to let others help when needed.

Time *is* flying. We were away AGAIN visiting family. One more trip for me and my younger daughter and then school will be starting again. Yikes!

  36. Tyler H Jolley

I can’t believe it’s already been six months! Geez, it seems like she was just born. I’m glad you’re feeling better, and I loved the random meme.

  37. Michelle

I really need to read the Maze Runner series, I’ve seen the movie but not picked up the books yet. I have my fingers crossed that my missed parcel was Illuminae and that it will arrive on Wed.

I can relate to the whole raspy voice thing, 99% of the time, when I get germs my voice goes completely, but it doesn’t hurt at all. The 1% is usually sore throat germs. 🙂

    Great hual

  38. Tressa

It’s been so busy I didn’t have time to comment on Saturday, so I’m coming back now to do that. 🙂 I’m glad you’re feeling better. I understand the voice/cough thing. I still have a slight cough/congestion from when I was sick over two weeks ago. It’s a pain! I like the title of “The Devil Wears Spurs.” Lol! I have a thing for cowboys even though I’m perfectly content with my non-cowboy husband. 🙂
