Sunday Post

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted here @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news~ A post to recap the past week on your blog, showcase books and things we have received. Share news about what is coming up on our blog for the week ahead. See rules here: Sunday Post Meme

So last weekend I had a serious headache (which I am still plagued with), and went to bed without checking the Sunday Post. I am anal and despite having a cron job set up to ensure my posts go live, and double checking each day that the next day’s post is scheduled correctly- I still check every night at 12:01 am. ESPECIALLY the Sunday Post since you all link up…but last weekend I fell asleep around 10 ish…and woke up at 8:30 Sunday Morning to no post! Gads! I have no idea why. ( a special thank you to those who voiced concern for my well being) The Cron job had no errors, post said scheduled to go live at 00:00 on May 10th. So my answers ..GREMLINS! I scheduled a second cron job for each hour as a back up and the problem hasn’t occurred again..but seriously it was weird. A lot of you asked what an XoXpert is. Simon & Schuster had applications a few months ago for reviewers to be part of this special group. Each month we receive books and tasks. (similar to Avon Addicts program) It has been fun and I’ve made some new friends. I will alert you here on the Sunday Post when they open up applications again.

Lol..a Cron job is an application or command that tells the server to check if a new post is scheduled to publish. I set it up on the back end of my blog (through host) WordPress is designed to check for posts when someone visits. So let’s say I have a post scheduled for 1 am but no one visits until 6 am..the post won’t publish until then. A cron job basically checks the blog at 5 mins after the top of each hour and at 15 mins past the hour for scheduled posts and publishes them.

Oh, I am excited about the HBO series Big Little Lies…sounds so good! I love any project or movie with Nicole Kidman.

Thanks for sharing…and enjoy your new books. I am curious about The Witch of Bourbon Street.

I hope the headache continues to improve! I get confused about the timing thing as we’re a day ahead in Australia anyway, so I tend to post our time…

I really enjoyed Memory Man, so hope you do too!

PS. The XoXpert thing sounds interesting!

I have a constant dull ache and it flairs up to excruciating daily..where sound and light hurt. Very annoying. .I did make an appointment. Someone suggested pollen allergies but I have never suffered before

  3. Greg

It happens… no worries. 🙂 Sorry to hear your headache is still around- yikes. Hope you feel better. I think that’s interesting that HBO ia doing Big Little Lies- I always like Reese Witherspoon.

Now that I understand which is why I am so anal and double check the next day’s post daily. LOL

  4. Red Iza

I’m so sorry those awful migraines are not over yet, have you seen a doctor ? It must have been hard taking care of a baby/reading in this state. Fortunately, you had (almost) everything programmed for the blog ! Those new books look good, especially the Jessica Lemmon. I hope you’ll be feeling well again very soon, let’s use the knowledge of those fantasy books we read and put a curse on those migraines ! Take care 😉

I guess they are migraines and yes I do have an appointment scheduled. Thankfully Sophia is young, adorable and sleeps a lot! I enjoyed the first book by Lemmon and look forward to reading it.

  5. Christy

Ick, hope the headache is better. I can’t even remember if I linked up last week. I don’t know, I’m just totally off my game with blogging lately. Oooo Rescuing the Bad Boy! I adored the first book.

Hmm, I couldn’t tell you. I loved the first book too..which is why I had to grab this one room or not..LOL

  6. Trish

That was so weird about your post last week and typical that it was the one time you didn’t check it! I hope you are feeling better, as a fellow headache sufferer I know how awful a bad one can be. I’ll have a look at the Crave tour 🙂

    • kimbacaffeinate

Right. I mean my family teases me because I always check. Thanks for checking the tour, I didn’t think you read contemporary romance

    • kimbacaffeinate

I know. I am so surprised there aren’t programs in the UK as well.

    • kimbacaffeinate

Thanks Melliane I am eager to explore them 🙂

I’m sorry you’re still dealing with the headache. I hope you’ll feel better soon. LOL for gremlins, but honest you never know 😉 Have a great day 🙂

So sorry about all the headaches! Hope you feel better. I am looking forward to your review on the audio of The Martian. I have heard mixed things but I still think it sounds interesting. Also I am pumped about a Big Little Lies project. It was such an awesome book. Have a great week!

I bet there’s a lot of boys who would love that bug ABC book, and the Witch of Bourbon Street is now on my TBR; you have something for everyone. Maybe your headache is from all the pollen, I’ve had a sore throat from it all week.

  10. Lover Of Romance

Headaches are just the worst aren’t they!! If I had life without headaches or toothaches life would be just about perfect lol…I do want to read Jessica Lemmon…she has been on my list for quite some time, so hope you enjoy.

  11. La La in the Library

Sending good mojo your way, HEADACHES BE GONE! I have been plagued with neck problems for the last two weeks, but I would rather suffer those than migraines. I got to the point where I have been setting my Kindle down and listening to the book with the horrid text-to-speech function. FYI, the male voice is less annoying than the female voice. I am looking forward to reading your The Martian, and Compulsion audiobook reviews. I have to swing back around and have a look at your product reviews, too. Have a wonderful week. 🙂

I’m so sorry you’re still having headaches. I hope you get it resolved soon. I hope next week will be better for you.

The Memory Man looks good and I have to grab The Forgotten. I love that series! Recently I’ve had a couple of scheduled posts not go up. Guess those gremlins are making the rounds. LOL And I had a headache almost all week too. It appears to finally have gone away and I hope yours does too. I’m thinking it’s all the pollen. I watched a special on the news and they say it’s way worse than usual.

    • kimbacaffeinate

So weird right. Do you run a cron job for them? If you are just relying on WordPress -it is set up to check for new posts every time someone views the blog. So if you schedule a post for midnight and no one stops by until 4 am, it won’t post till 4 am.

  19. Michelle

Sorry your head is still bothering you! I hope you feel better soon!
I thought it was weird you didn’t have it up but I thought maybe you decided not to do it and than I thought that was weird too. LOL Silly Gremlins!

  20. Lola

That’s so weird your sunday post didn’t post last week. i was quite surprised to visit your blog and not find the sunday post, as in all the 125 weeks I participated that never happened before. Weird that your cron job didn’t work somehow. It once happened to me that my sunday post hadn’t posted, but I realized I scheduled it a day too later, so that was my own fault.
I hope your headache goes away soon, headaches are the worst! I hope you have a great week and enjoy your new books!

    Take care!

I’m so excited the SYNC program has started again! I downloaded last week’s books and need to grab this week’s. Although I’m uncertain about Great Expectations. I was forced to read it in HS and again in college. I hated it both times. However, I’ve found that audiobooks can make a classic book more palatable.

    • kimbacaffeinate

It has been awful. I am sitting here with 3 reviews to write, blogs to visit and books to read and the pressure in my head is making me want to hide under some covers in a dark, cold room.

So sorry to hear about your long-lasting headache. As one who spent her whole adult life plagued by headaches: tension, cluster, PMS, eyestrain, and migraine, I would humbly suggest you get your eyes checked since you read all*the*time! You might just need glasses, or a stronger script. If that is not the case, it could be underlying stress or lack of quality sleep. Now my “virtual doctor” hat is off, hehe…
I am curious about your take on The Martian. I am on the fence about reading it. I know you will love Memory Man– I didn’t do the audio– that might add an extra layer of enjoyment. Hope you feel better very soon!

HBO always does awesome series, so I’m looking forward to checking this one out, as well as the new True Detective. 31. Sophia Rose

Hope the headache goes away soon. I get them like this during the allergy season which is also the high-stress time at work. They are so distracting and wear you down. And of course the Gremlins visit when they sense you are weak. 😉

Loved your Charlie quote pick. Reyes will be happy to keep said named objects occupied. 😉

    • kimbacaffeinate

LOL, yes I think Reyes would be down with that. Visiting doc this week.

    • kimbacaffeinate

I hope I am not heading in that direction and that this is something simple.

    • kimbacaffeinate

LOL, I do Nonna’s Corner once a month sharing books for children (that I read to my granddaughter Sophia)

  32. Teddyree

You have my sympathy with the headache. A few years ago I had a nasty headache that was with day in day out for weeks and all traditional medicine failed to help. A friend recommended a Japanese acupuncturist, (the technique was slightly different to Chinese) and after 3 treatments I was headache free. I now have great sympathy for anyone who suffers past the ‘normal’ … hope it eases soon. I’m off to check out your review of The Martian, I have it on audio but keep putting it off lol.

    • kimbacaffeinate

  36. Lorna

Your headache sounds brutal-I hope it’s not allergies! I used to get those headaches where I couldn’t lift my head up off the pillow. A cat scan later, and it was diagnosed as sinus headache from allergies. I have been on Singulaar ever since-I still get an occasional headache, but not like those I had before the meds-and this is easily 15 years ago now. It might work for you as well-hope you feel better soon!
