What happens when monsters turn out to be real? One summer night while camping in the woods, Morgan Carter finds out in a big way. A tall mysterious stranger, Greyson Crawford, risks his life to try and save her sister from the vicious wolf attacking their camp. When he’s bitten and disappears into the night, Morgan can only assume the worst. Greyson shows up a year later, and he’s a different animal altogether. His eye color shifts constantly and the rumble in his throat sounds more animal than human. She hasn’t any idea where he’s been all this time, but a good guess as to what he’s become. Grey is determined not to let the darkness of his new existence affect Morgan and the little girl in her care. He hasn’t been able to stop thinking about Morgan but knows he should stay away and let her live a normal life. That’s easier said than done, though. A new danger pulls him from the shadows to keep her safe, and he’s no wolf in sheep’s clothing. Can she accept what lurks just below his surface? More importantly, can she survive him?

Lorna @ Rabid Reads turned me on to the Silver Wolf Clan series by Tera Shanley and when I saw that Silver Wolf Clan was free on Amazon I jumped at the chance to read them and snagged book two Black Wolf’s Revenge from NetGalley. Both reviews posted today so be sure and check out my thoughts on Black Wolf’s Revenge.

I have been on a bit of an Urban Fantasy and Paranormal Romance kick and Silver Wolf Clan fed my need. It introduced some new to me concepts with wolf packs and I am anxious to see how it develops. It also reminded me of Alpha & Omega and the Mercy Thompson series.

At a mere hundred and eighty-seven pages Shanley managed to create the world, introduce us to a clan, give us history and share a sweet romance with strong characters. I consumed this in a single sitting, and found the concept and characters intriguing.

While camping in the woods Morgan Carter’s life changes when a mysterious stranger, Greyson Crawford, steps in and tries to save her sister from a vicious animal attack. He was badly wounded and in the confusion, he ran off. Morgan was unable to find him. A year has passed and Greyson has struggled with the outcome of that fateful encounter. Alone and confused he lives on the outskirts of town, struggling to control the beast that walks within him. Thankfully, help arrives and soon he begins to come to terms and learns to handle the beast. Greyson reminded me of an alpha version of Sam (Mercy Thompson series) and he made me swoon.

While the romance developed fast and became complicated by secondary characters, it had a slow burn feel. Had this been a full-length novel I would have demanded more, but Shanley left we satisfied and feeling warm and fuzzy. The series itself deals with Morgan and Grey, much like the Alpha & Omega series by Patricia Briggs focuses on Anna & Charles.

Morgan is special and this aspect of the story was fascinating. It had me diving right into Black Wolf’s Revenge.  This puts her and Lana directly in danger and I am anxious to see how the series develops. Unique alliances, implied danger and this couple have me eager for more.

I am really glad you enjoyed it! And I have the Alpha and Omega to read and I really need to get to reading it soon 🙂

  2. Liza Barrett

This sounds pretty decent; I’m somewhat burned out on werewolves and the like, but I do like quick reads with “slow-burn” romance.

I go through phases and right now UF and paranormal are like

  3. Bookworm Brandee

*haha* I one-clicked these thanks to Lorna, too! I’m really interested in the fresh take on wolf packs. And I like that you compared this to Briggs’ Alpha & Omega series. I’m eager to start this series. 🙂

That is was drew me in too Brandee and I had fun reading these

Ooo I think I have this one! I’ll definitely make a note of your review and push it a bit higher on the TBR (it’s massive though, so there is no telling when I’ll get to anything I have planned, lol). It’s sounds a great quick read though

  5. Candace

I remember seeing reviews for this series too. It sounds good but I have so many others to catch up on I’m going to hold off. I’m glad you enjoyed this though!

This si he first time I hear abotu this series, that cover catched my eye! I’ve been in an urban fantasy and paranormal romance mood this year so far, so I am adding this to my to-read list.
And that’s neat the author managed to give the fast developing romance a slow burn feel! I love slow burn romances, there aren’t many authors who can pull of a good slow burn romance in only one book. Great review!

This isn’t a genre that would normally interest me but I like that it’s short yet still a complete story. 187 pages would give me a good feel for the series without making to big of a reading commitment.

I agree Katherine, it was a nice escape and I enjoyed both books.

For some reason, the first thought that came to my mind when I saw Greyson was “wolf” O_O This doesn’t really sound any different to many other Urban Fantasies, but you seem to like it enough to give it 3.5 stars SO WHY THE HECK NOT! Mayhaps through the author’s writing we get something new on our plate 🙂

Right…cannot get enough of Briggs this is fun to find

  9. Benish

I like the premise of this, quite a lot actually. I just finished adding it to my TBR – let’s see how it goes. Great review 🙂
