For the month of May I read/listened to 26 books. 24 of them were ARCs for the Clean Sweep Challenge. I hope  those of you that joined reached your goals.  I hope all of you that attended BEA arrive home safe and sound. I imagine you are all pooped. I am still healing from my recent illness and long for the morning when I wake up and realize all of the symptoms are gone.  This was a wonderful week, our oldest applied for and earned a promotion at work. We are very proud.  I hope you have a wonderful week! Stay Caffeinated 🙂

I’m glad you’re getting better but do try not to push it. I know from experience that’ll just set you back. Congrats to your oldest, that’s fantastic!

thanks Bea, and I try to listen when my body protests.

    • kimbacaffeinate

Thanks Sharon, we are proud. She is only 23 and managing three departments. 🙂

  2. Berls

Glad to hear you’re feeling a bit better – hope you get to 100% soon! Congrats to your eldest, I’m sure he’s excited to have earned that promotion!

Thanks for the COYER Shout Out too 🙂 Winterspell looks interesting, I don’t think I’m familiar with the author but I like that cover.

Have a great week Kimba 🙂

You are welcome and yes she was excited and of course we are proud parents 🙂

  3. Kristin

So glad you’re starting to feel “whole” again, slowly but surely. Sucks that as we get older, it takes longer to get healthy – of course I’m only talking about myself, right?!?! 🙂

I totally forgot about Winterspell and that I wanted to nab it! I’ve been so completely blah about my computer lately I haven’t even turned it on! I think it’s the end of the school year and trying to get Jake done on time (homeschool).

    Take it easy, girl!!!

    • kimbacaffeinate

They say it takes 4-6 weeks to recover from pneumonia and at week three I would totally agree. Soon it will be summer! Loved your pics from work this week. The dead body cut out was awesome!

  4. Greg

Congrats on your oldest, and hope you keep feeling better. Take care this week.

Liked your sidebar post, some great tips there. Happy reading!

It was a good month and considering how sick I was I am grateful. Have a wonderful week my friend!

  5. Christy

Finally! Glad you’re feeling better. We seriously need to work on getting you that bubble. 😉 You know I’m lovin’ the Plume Orchard series, but I haven’t read Talk this Way. Woohoo for Take Me On. I’m probably going to read it after 6th Grave. And yay for you daughter!!

    • kimbacaffeinate

Well I saw the author and thought this was book one of the Plume Orchard series you adore and it was .99 cents so I Hmm, blogging in a bubble. I would need to add so many things to it, like my coffee machine, chocolate, laptop, books, blanket, fuzzy slippers. Maybe I should just quarantine the house and make people decontaminate before they enter!

      • Christy

Yeah, it is part of the series, but it’s a prequel. I rarely read prequels. Cat is a very minor character in the following books, but still part of the Call Girls.

LOL – there you go. Everything in there would be sterile.

  18. Holly

I was only able to read 4 books in May. I was stuck on one for several weeks and just finished it (finally!) yesterday due to lots of life interruptions. It was an ARC that had high ratings and sounded like something I would enjoy but at the end I was so confused. I felt like someone needed to explain to me what had just happened. That doesn’t happen very often. Enjoy your week!

Holly recently posted: Sunday Post #81
    • kimbacaffeinate

Those are the books you need to DNF. Before blogging I always finished a book no matter how painful or dry or confusing Now, I will try any book and let go after 100 pages if it doesn’t work. It is freeing and my reading stats went from 250 a year to 300!

      • Holly

That’s the thing though. I was totally on board with how the story was going and was anxious to see what happened (it wasn’t because of the book itself that I kept having interruptions) but the ending left me with a ton of questions and a seriously confused “what on earth just happened” feeling. Total confusion. Unfortunately my review won’t come out till closer to release date (which is Oct 8th). Should’ve planned better on my part as to when to read it.

You totally rocked your own challenge Kimba! I took a break and read mostly non-ARCs for Bout of Books week, but am happy with what I accomplished. I will definitely be continuing the challenge “unofficially” as I still have quite a pile! Hope you’re feeling better soon & that’s awesome news about the promotion 🙂

    • kimbacaffeinate

Seriously. May flew by and I am so hopping June takes it time unrolling!

  20. Rita

I hope you are back up to par very soon! So many good books mentioned– I read Gravity years ago and really enjoyed it. Ms. Gerritsen’s older stand-alones were a lot of fun. And Phantom Instinct, I just loved it, you will too.

I have read all of Gerritsen’s books but Gravity, I have a feeling my library must not have had it. I was shocked when I realized and will soon fix it. I am a huge fan. I have heard good things about Phantom Instinct and cannot wait to dive in. I have been on a contemporary kick of late and need some thrillers.

  21. Shy

Get well soon Kim. I love the Arcadia Bell series. You will love Cady and Lon.

    • kimbacaffeinate

I cannot wait Shy! I love her Roaring Twenties series.

  22. Katherine

Congratulations to your oldest! How exciting! Glad you’re starting to feel better but like the others have said don’t push it! I really enjoyed your sidebar post and am looking forward to when I can actually sit down and work on mine! Have a great week!

    • kimbacaffeinate

So glad you found it useful Katherine. Sometimes I write them and wonder if I am doing any good or offering anything new, but based on responses I will continue to go with my gut and share the topics that come to me. Thanks!

  23. A Voracious Reader

So glad you are on the mend. Better slowly than a setback. Congrats to your oldest’s promotion! Woot! I’ve been chaising my tail this week and need to get caught up on your posts. At least I’m getting the emails again. 🙂 Have a wonderful week, Kimba!

  24. Kristin T.

So glad your on the mend Kimba!!! I just got back from my 1st trip to BEA…what a crazy, fun experience. I’m tired, but not completely exhausted. Luckily I have today and tomorrow to recuperate before heading back to work.

I’m finishing up The Marriage Pact today – love LLM’s books and am excited for this new series. I didn’t realize that Meg Gardiner had a new book out – a new book to add to my list!

Have a great week and congrats to your oldest!

  28. Peggy

Many Congratulations to your Oldest, it is so hard these days to stay ahead.
Are you still on antibiotics? Pneumonia is not to be messed with, my son had pneumonia when he was 16 and it knocked him for six, he was off school for 3 months. He is 20 now and still gets chesty very easily. And how did he catch it …. he went to a party at a ‘friends’ house, the people there did not have heating, it was winter and he stayed there overnight and had to sleep on the floor without any bedding. The number of times I told him.. why didn’t you call me, I could have picked you up etc etc Teenagers!

  29. Lark

I hope you feel better soon, Kimba! It’s so frustrating when it takes a while to get over something like that. Your new arrivals look good, so at least you have something fun to keep you occupied while you rest and recuperate!

So great that your offspring got a promotion! I’m sure it was well-earned.

Congratulations to your oldest on the promotion. How excited you all must be. So sorry you are still ill. I know that has to be a bummer for sure. Sometimes all you can do is rest, rest, rest. If it is either a sinus infection or pneumonia, they can really wipe you out for quite a while. Oh, and be sure to eat a lot even though you probably will not want to. Feel better soon!

Your new books look awesome, I just hope you are at least able to enjoy them while you rest. I have not read a Tess G. novel in quite some time, so I will definitely look forward to the review.

    • kimbacaffeinate

I am quite excited to read this weeks haul. I am getting better, just left with a nasty cough and some congestion. Thanks Micky!
