FBI agent Elizabeth LeBlanc is still caught in the aftermath of her last big case when she runs into the one man from her past who is sure to rock her equilibrium even more. Navy SEAL Derek Vaughn is back home from a harrowing rescue mission in which he found evidence of a secret terror cell on US soil. Elizabeth knows he’ll do anything to unravel the plot—including seducing her for information. And despite the risks involved, she’s tempted to let him. Together with the forensics experts at the Delphi Center, Derek and Elizabeth are closing in on the truth, but it may not be fast enough to avert a devastating attack… Following in the bestselling tradition of the Tracers series, includingExposed, Scorched, and Twisted, Beyond Limits pulls out all the stops with Griffin’s most gripping thriller yet.

Beyond Limits by Laura Griffin is the eighth book in her Tracers series featuring FBI agent Elizabeth LeBlanc. Despite not reading any of the previous novels, I was able to jump right in and enjoyed this action packed romantic suspense. A second chance romance and terroristic threat on US soil kept me flipping the pages.

Elizabeth LeBlanc is an FBI agent feeling a little off her game, after her last assignment left her injured. Back on the job, she is called in to work on a special assignment in Texas. Imagine her surprise when an intelligence meeting has her sitting across from Derek Vaughn. Derek is a drop dead gorgeous Navy Seal, dedicated to cause and country. He and his team uncovered Intel overseas about a threat on American soil. That Intel cost the life of one of his teammates and he is determined to get answers.

Elizabeth has feelings for Derek, as these two have a history but she is practical and taking two steps back because he is so wrong for her. Ooo I loved the chemistry, tension, banter and swoons between these two. Elizabeth has missed Derek and he her, but they lead such different lives and Elizabeth is thinking it will be too painful if she lets him in. Not me dear Lizzy because Derek has me swooning. I love a take-charge alpha.  Derek’s ability to gather Intel and the way he looks at Elizabeth; well let us just say I am a fan.

The case is intense as they uncovers threats in Texas. Elizabeth tries to bring Derek in through the proper channels, and despite the no go, they end up crossing paths as they both investigate. Griffin writes a well-paced, realistic suspense and I loved watching all of the players’ piece together clues to thwart the terrorist plans. At times, it was nail biting and I lost myself within the story.

I love that Derek and Elizabeth shared a past as it allowed me to quickly connect and root for a happily ever after. Griffin combines snark, tender moments and delicious page melting heat as the romance progresses. While this is part of the series, I loved that I was able to dive in and received a complete romance along with the case. An epilogue had me smiling and I fully intend to continue the series.

Fans of romantic suspense will enjoy Griffin’s cast of characters, swoon worthy romance and the intense case she takes us on in Beyond Limits.

I haven’t read any of the books in this series, but this one has been widely popular. I am glad you were able to get right into the story and enjoyed the relationship between the two characters. I think the intense mystery would make me want to read this!

I really appreciate that you could jump in mid-stream like this and enjoy it

Ooh, I just got this book from Netgalley! Glad this book could be read as a standalone, because I haven’t read any of her books either! I love me a good realistic romantic suspense! Awesome review!

I love romantic suspense, especially when the “he” is a take-charge alpha male! A straight-out romance would probably be a little boring, but when you add the suspense element – and I mean, terrorists…! Navy Seals…! Homeland, anyone…? – the effect has to be WOW! Loving your review, again, sorry to be repeating myself, but it’s true 🙂

A series book that can stand on its own. That’s a good thing. And from te sound of it, I won’t be surprised to see you read and review the previous books. I love the cover art too! So pretty

    • kimbacaffeinate

LOL, I cringe at going back..so many on my tbr pile, but I am sure I will get the next one!

For some reason I tend to not like books where the characters are FBI (or some other agency). I don’t know why, it just bores me or something. I’m sure it really just depends on the book. This has a great cover though and I love the suspense aspect of it.

    • kimbacaffeinate

Oh bummer, well we cannot like every genre..my least fav is contemporary YA

    • kimbacaffeinate

Yes, each works as a standalone although I imagine the protagonists growth and what molds her would be good to see from the beginning.

    • kimbacaffeinate

Yep it’s like peanut butter and chocolate..perfect together 🙂

  6. Sophia Rose

This sounds awesome. I’ve just recently gotten back into romantic suspense and have not tried Laura’s books. Looks like I need to rectify that. A SEAL and a mission and a lady FBI agent, oh yes!

  7. Lily

Ah this one looks so unbelievably kickass. Anything with a female FBI agent is bound to be amazing, Plus, romantic suspense? I’M SMILING ALREADY 🙂

Nice review Kim I LOVED the book, and yes is does stand well alone but if you get a chance the background you get reading the novels in order is invaluable.
She’s become one of my go to for crime drama/romance

    • kimbacaffeinate

*looks at TBR pile*maybe not backwards but I will be going forward

  9. Sarah

I’ve been really digging the FBI/catching terrorists type thing in my tv shows here lately. This sounds like a winner! Adding to my TBR 😀

  10. Terri

Nice review! Good to know that you don’t need to read the previous books, as I’m always hesitant to start in the middle of a series. I don’t usually read romantic suspense, but I can’t seem to resist hot Navy SEALs!

  11. Grace MyBookSnack

I’m so glad to hear you liked this one, because I actually started this last night! My first time reading her. I read on her website that this series are all standalone, but now that I’m reading this one I’m now curious about the the others. 🙂

  12. Ro

Wow! She’s written 8 books and haven’t heard about any of them. Looks like I’ll be busy trying to find all of these because it sounds like a great series. Hugs…

    “I love a take-charge alpha.”

ME TOO KIM! They never fail to make me swoon. Is Derek in all the previous books too? Just wondering how the romantic element plays out in those since this is book 8. I know you don’t know for sure since you haven’t read the previous 7, but it makes me curious. Lovely review as always:)

    • kimbacaffeinate

She met him in a previous book and they had a little fling I believe from what folks said it was 2 books prior. This totally works as a standalone.

  14. Katherine

I’m loving these kinds of thriller/romance books right now so this definitely sounds promising. I also really like that I can jump right into the series. Great review. You’re killing my TBR!

  15. Nick

I adore that cover and wohoo, second chance romance! The romance in this one sounds fantastic, Kim! And so does the plot.
    Great review, Kim!

  16. Amir

I haven’t read romantic suspense in awhile and this sounds awesome! The characters too! I like that both hero and heroine have a pasg because you’re right, it is easier to connect and root for the two when you know they liked each other but circumstances is keeping them apart. I will definitely check this out out

    • kimbacaffeinate

Yeah that little past experience created delicious tension and banter

  17. Jeann

Wow, an intelligence officer and Navy Seal, HELLO! Sounds like the romance had the perfect amount of banter too! Great review Kimba.

  18. Bea

This series is on my list to read and I’m delighted to hear that you could jump in at book eight.

    • kimbacaffeinate

I was skeptic but they assured me I could and I am very glad that I did

    • kimbacaffeinate

Exactly..I love a girl who carries a gun and knows how to use it 🙂

  19. kindlemom1

For some reason I have never heard of this series before but it sounds like it is a pretty good one, especially if it is still going strong after eight books! Great review Kim!

  20. Melliane

I r eally loved the cover! When I saw it I didn’t realize that it was a book part of a series. I’ll have to check the others out. In any case the romance between the 2 sounds really great! It maks me want to discover all that. thanks!

    • kimbacaffeinate

This totally works as standalone Melliane so you can just dive in

  21. Danielle Romero

Great review. I’ve actually never heard of this series but it is making its way to my TBR list for sure. I like that it has a strong female lead and an HEA at the end. Romantic suspense is something I don’t dabble in often but this one seems worth it and I do really love this cover.

    • kimbacaffeinate

I really enjoy romantic suspense, especially when the case is strong

  22. Faye

Oh, man, I haven’t heard of this series before, but a female FBI agent is already making me want this book AND THE REST OF THE BOOKS. I can already feel it would be greater than my James Patterson collection haha
