Hi! ::BIGWAVE::

Some of you may know me, but for those that don’t allow me to introduce myself. My name is Michelle and I am the book blogger over at Book Briefs. When Kimba asked for some guest posts leading up to her daughters’ wedding, I was super excited. Since weddings are an event to celebrate love, I thought I would share with you some of my favorite romances. Perfect or summer, winter, or whenever! So today I am going to share with you some of my top summer whenever romance recommendations!

I am going to split them into 3 categories (something for everyone):

  • Young Adult Contemporary
  • New Adult Contemporary (my favorite!)
  • Non-contemporary romance

Ok Let’s get right to it!

*Note: these are more rec’s for great romance authors. While I did enjoy these books in particular from these authors, any of their romances are top notch! Check them all out*

Love Michelle! I’m a fan of my romance being more secondary, so where the plot of all these other issues is first and the romance is second. Though sometimes it’s still a pretty big thing. In Sanctum (and Chaos, the third book) by Sarah Fine, there’s death around every corner. It’s VERY intense and the two are constantly being torn apart by horrible things. They barely have two minutes together at a time but the romance is just SO GOOD! So intense. And I even hesitate to say it’s actually secondary because it’s at the heart of everything, but there’s so much more also happening and it’s not totally focused on them. That is my favorite kind. BTW, HIGHLY recommend that series!

I gravitate mostly to historical romance and small-town contemporary romance, along with romantic suspense. I’ve also gotten interested in paranormal romance – as long as it isn’t too dark. I don’t do zombies, though, and I tend to shy away from vampires with some notable exceptions. (Loved A Discovery of Witches!) I enjoy romance in YA fantasy but I’m just not drawn to contemporary YA romance at this point in my life. All that high-school drama and teenage angst! (Again, there are exceptions, but they tend to be classics like the Anne of Green Gables series.)

  3. Katherine

Great list here! I read mostly historical and contemporary when it comes to romances but I’ve been wanting to read Breathe Annie Breathe. The paranormals look interesting as well.

  4. Mary

Hi Michelle! Some great recommendations there, definitely. I’d add Ann Aguirre’s new NA series to that list — quite lovely.

    • Michelle

Hi Mary, thanks for stopping by. I have read the first of Ann Aguirre’s NA series and I really liked it. I have the second book coming up to be read in a week or so 😉

  5. Melissa (Books and Things)

Great list. I tend toward PNR, Magical Realism and Historical Romance. I’ve been more into Romantic Suspense and some contemporary YA romance when it involves something creative. I still need to find more good NA to really want to read more. I might have to check out the ones you listed. 🙂

  6. Heidi

I love paranormal romance! I have read a few of the books up there on your list, I especially loved MIranda Kenneally and Heather Hildenbrand. I am a bit burned out though on the lack of orginiality in NA so if you run across one that is unique let me know.

    • Michelle

Stupid Girl is pretty Unique and so is Kiss the Sky, but I do know what you mean- most NA contemp follows the same kind of plot line.

  7. Lauren

Great recommendations, thanks so much for sharing! I love romance of all kinds, but do find myself gravitating toward YA contemporary more than I used to. I used to need fantasy/paranormal/sci-fi elements too, but I’ve read so many good contemps lately, I’m definitely a fan!

    • Michelle

Thanks for stopping by Lauren. I have been liking contemporary more and more this past year too. More than I ever have before!

  8. Rita

I am not a typical romance reader, but that being said, I do enjoy if there is a bit of romance in my suspense or thriller reads, or my contemporary fictions. I like the looks of Painted Blind and Stupid Girl because their plots are unusual, and I don’t like formulaic stories. Thanks for sharing all these with us– sorry I don’t have a recommendation for you, but I’m taking recs from you 🙂 Have a good week.

  9. Nick

Breathe, Annie, Breathe is one of my favorite romance books too! I think nearly all books in that series are favorites for me. 🙂
I tend to go for the cutesy romances, so YA contemporaries are often very appealing for that reason.
One of my all-time favorite adult romance book is Lisa Kleypas’ Blue Eyed Devil. I’ve read that book maybe 50 times now and it never fails to become a bore or less swoony. Actually, I love all of Lisa’s HR books too! She definitely knows how to bring the feels to her books. 🙂
I need to check out some books from your list, Michelle!

Love all of these choices and most of these I still need to read myself. So many great books out there. It really is hard to pick and choose sometimes.

    • Michelle

Don’t I know it. Too many books, and not enough time. I know you appreciate a good romance so I hope you get the chance to read some that you haven’t 🙂

  11. Melliane

Oh that’s a great list! I haven’t read any and I don’t know about most of them I confess but I think I’ll have to write them down.

    • Michelle

      Thanks Melliane,

I always try to share some books that I think are “Hidden Gems”. I read really popular books as well as some lesser known books, and I love to share my finds with people. I hope you check some of them out. They are all great!

  12. Sharon - Obsession with Books

I will read romance in any form 😉 I actually won’t read a book if there isn’t some sort of romance, even if it isn’t at the forefront of the story it must be included, I’m a big sucker for a HEA. For me, JLA/J.Lynn is the queen of swoon worthy romances (I finished Stay With Me last night & it was fabulous!)

A wonderful guest post! I am definitely going to check out the books you mentioned.

    • Michelle

      Thanks Sharon!

I really am jonesing to read Stay with Me. I love romance added into any and all of my books too. If I read a book where there isn’t romance, I feel like something is missing. Is that Weird?

    • Michelle

I do need to read some more historical romances. Do you have any recs for me that would be a good introduction to the genre?
