Beloved #1 New York Times bestselling author Colleen Hoover returns with an unforgettable love story between a writer and his unexpected muse. Fallon meets Ben, an aspiring novelist, the day of her scheduled cross-country move. Their untimely attraction leads them to spend Fallon’s last day in L.A. together, and her eventful life becomes the creative inspiration Ben has always sought for his novel. Over time and amidst the various relationships and tribulations of their own separate lives, they continue to meet on the same date every year. Until one day Fallon becomes unsure if Ben has been telling her the truth or fabricating a perfect reality for the sake of the ultimate plot twist.

November 9 by Colleen Hoover was an anticipated release for me and as an added bonus; it was the first book that my online book club, Caffeinated Book Club tackled. I adored the characters and the premise readily swallowing the little blue pill and falling for the events that unfold in November 9.

Reasons to grab November 9

  • You love impossible romance, believe in love at first sight or soul mates. I believe in soul mates but don’t necessarily believe you are destined for only one person. A soul can meet many soul mates in a lifetime.  There are people whose path you will cross that complete you, strengthen you and ground you. Such was the love story of Ben and Fallon.
  • You love witty dialogue, banter and heartfelt conversations. I loved the chemistry between Ben and Fallon. They were unique, poetic, troubled and independent. However, meeting each other changed them and gave them purpose. Hoover shares their story, weaves in their history, family and more allowing us to connect.
  • You want broken and flawed characters who expose their wounds, show growth throughout the story, and bear their souls to each other. Watching these two fall and experiencing their joy, pain and sorrow had me laughing, holding my breath and even shedding a tear.
  • You want the feels. Flipping the pages and reading into the wee-hours of the night because you just need to know if they will “find their happy” is a book high you crave. While I never doubted the outcome, Hoover added twists and turns wrapped in angst and heartache that had me reaching for truffles as the world slipped away.
  • Read it for the premise. Two souls meeting once a year on the same date transforming from friends to lovers.
  • The use of dual perspectives gave readers the chance to understand and feel each character’s emotions.
  • Through the characters we discover the significance of the date, November 9th. I closed the novel spent and eager to talk about it with everyone.
  • Hoover is a wonderfully storyteller who takes ideas and tropes forging them into something that steals a little piece of the reader’s heart.

November 9 delivered all that I wished for allowing me to become swept up in Fallon and Ben’s romance leaving me with a book hangover and empty box of truffles.

Dual perspectives are the best when it comes to romance books in my opinion. I liked this one a lot, especially the way their story was told, but my favorite Colleen Hoover book is still Maybe Someday.

  2. Nicole

Yay! I can’t wait to read this one! I so love Hoover – and I always get so nervous that the next book won’t live up to my expectations. Glad it was awesome!

  3. Red Iza

I know I’m one of the very few who felt lukewarm toward this book, but I’m glad you loved it so much – and I agree with you on the great banter and good writing 🙂

  4. Tiffany

I loved this book so much, that now I’m dying to read more by her. Her writing captured me immediately. Like you said, you know how it will end, but Hoover threw enough curve balls to keep you invested. Great review!

  5. Lexxie

Yes to all of this, Kim! I especially loved Ben’s and Fallon’s dialogues about book boyfriends, and the way they talked about insta-love, while acknowledging that that was the case when it came to them 🙂
    Great review 🙂

  6. Jeann

I’m so glad you enjoyed this one Kimba! Unfortunately I wasn’t a believer when it came to the concept, but it was definitely cute and unique.

  7. Rita

Aaah, I need to read CoHo very soon and get in on the fun! I missed out on this one for last month’s book club and am disappointed about that. Good review, and I will buy this with the Amazon gift card that I always get from someone for Christmas. Thanks for a great review!

I DO want to check this one out. I keep reading great reviews. A friend of mine wasn’t really a fan though – and her complaints made sense to me. But we’ll see!

  9. Katherine

Oh this sounds lovely. I really meant to read this one but events conspired against me. I’ve been wanting to read Colleen Hoover for awhile and this one sounds like an excellent one to start with.

  10. Katrina

LOVE your reasons. This book destroyed me and put me back together. It probably my favorite book she’s written. The premise was amazing. I read it in a day. I’ll just say that absolutely nothing got done when I read it.

  11. Lover Of Romance

I have been hearing so many fantastic things about this one and I am thrilled to see that you enjoyed this one. Definitely have been wanting to read more books in this genre since I recently discovered it.

  12. Lorna

I jumped this up to front and center on my tbr list when it came out because it just sounded so good. I loved it and not sure but it might have been a one day read for me. Happy that you loved it to. I have only read one other by her but I definitely will be reading more 🙂

  13. Candace

I want the feels! I have heard so many amazing things about this author and her books and I haven’t read any. But… I’m thinking of picking this one up. So glad you enjoyed!

  14. Heidi

I really loved this one even with the added drama and angst that I wasn’t expecting. I loved the whole premise and Ben was just adorable. Glad I read this one for the book club.

  15. Laurel-Rain Snow

I’ve only read one book by this author (Ugly Love), but I loved it…and I eagerly downloaded this book. Now I am trying to decide if it can wait its turn after the older books on my stacks…No, probably not! Thanks….

  16. Lefty

Great review! All the things you’ve said about this book sound fantastic. I love books that give me feels, and I love witty banter and heartfelt conversations, especially. I’m definitely adding this one to my TBR. Thanks for the review!

  17. Lekeisha

So many great reviews out for this book. I can’t wait to read it myself, but I’m gonna go with Slammed as my first solo CoHo book.

  18. Jenny

Heidi really loved this one to Kim, I’m glad to see it’s getting such great reviews! I still have yet to read a Colleen Hoover book which I know is a complete fail, but I worry about the angst/drama level! I just haven’t been in the mood lately to have my heart ripped out and stomped on before it’s gloriously put back together:)

  19. Bookworm Brandee

I’m envious you got this one read, Kimberly. It’s sitting on my shelf waiting…waiting… I’ll get there though. I adore Colleen’s writing too and it seems as though she delivered everything I’ve come to expect from her in November 9. Love your review!

  20. Angel Erin

Fantastic review! I love Colleen Hoover and I can’t wait to read this one. I love all the feels her books give. 🙂

  21. Grace

Loved this one too! Hoover always comes through for me. I loved the banter as well. Plus the twists and what not were all done so well. Great review!

  22. Mary Kirkland

I like romance books that have soul mates or destined romance. My husband likes to think that we are soul mates and have met in other reincarnations and that’s why we get along so well even though we are polar opposites.

  23. Maryam Dinzly

AWWWW this book sounds so cute. I’ve always been a hopeless romantic, and I’ll be sure to grab this book 😀 And that date, I’m so cuuurious about why that specific date. I guess I’ll have to read it to find out. Great review 😀

  24. melliane

I love all the books I’ve tried by the author for now but I haven’t read this one yet. I’m glad you had a good time because I saw a lot of mixed reviews. I need to try!
