From New York Times bestselling author Kresley Cole comes this spellbinding story of a demon king trapped by an enchantress for her wanton purposes -- and the scorching aftermath that follows when he turns the tables and claims her as his captive.

HIS OBSESSION...
Sabine, Sorceress of Illusions: the evil beauty who surrenders her body, but not her heart.

HER DOWNFALL...
Rydstrom Woede: the ruthless warrior who vows to keep her at all costs.

THEY WERE NEVER SUPPOSED TO WANT EACH OTHER THIS MUCH...
With each smoldering encounter, their shared hunger only increases. If they can defeat the sinister enemy that stands between them, will Sabine make the ultimate sacrifice for her demon? Or will the proud king lay down his crown and arms to save his sorceress?

paranormal ADDICTIVE snarky Fave Narrator

Snark, heat, and heart made KISS OF A DEMON by Kresley Cole another addictive edition to the Immortals After Dark series. Narrated by Robert Petkoff, I quickly devoured Sabine and Rystrom’s story. Cole continues to impress me with cleverly woven tales and memorable secondary characters.

All of the tales in the Immortal After Dark series overlap a little and I love how Cole does this. Fans of the series reading them in order were given a glimpse of their story in DARK DESIRES AFTER DUSK. It was a blast listening to how everything came about and seeing it to its conclusion.

I adore Rystrom Woede.  He once ruled the kingdom of Rothkalinaand before it was taken by Omort. I was intrigued by the saucy Sabine, the Sorceress of Illusions. In a nutshell, Sabine is sent by Omort the Deathless, her evil asshat of a brother to conquer Rydstrom in order to thwart his brother from obtained the sword that could mean his demise.

Oh, my the fun we had in this dark and delicious tale. Sabine sets out to seduce him and gets more than she bargained for. Both have a lot riding on the outcome of events, and yet they are wildly attracted to each other, soulmates if you would.

Their banter, bite and obvious destain for each other complicated by unexpected emotions made for one heck of a listen as these two tried to best the other. I admired both of them and felt their personalities complimented each other. Both have secrets which created conflict, and I loved the way it was revealed. Of course, our beloved Nix was involved. Oh if I could spend an afternoon chatting with this witty seer. Once again she had me a laughing aloud from her thoughts to her interference.

I will warn you that there are bondage and control elements present, not to mention Sabine kidnaps Rystrom. This, however, is war, and both give as good as they get. I felt these elements rang true to the storyline and fitted the characters. Plus, I think they both derived some pleasure from it and each needed the strength the other possessed. Cole managed to have me holding my breath and shedding a tear or too as I prayed for an HEA.

Cole continues to amaze me with her world building, and while we travel, I loved time spent in NOLA. Her ability to weave suspense, dark elements, passion and off the chart humor make me giddy. After finishing this, I splurged and bought the next four audios.

If you haven’t started the series I urge you to listen. Robert Petkoff does a phenomenal job with these characters and the series in general. Each character has a unique voice and he brings them to life. Like Renee’ Rudman and the writing team of Ilona Andrews, I cannot image Cole without Petkoff.

You’ll want to grab your earbuds and devour KISS OF A DEMON but be warned, it is addictive and you won’t want to stop until it ends.

Hey, Kimberly! I read the first three books of the Arcana Chronicles by Cole what seems like decades ago, but haven’t picked up another of her books since. I’m looking at her Goodreads page right now and wondering why that is! I’ve been wanting to start the Immortals After Dark series for AGES, but, well, I’m sure you know how TBR’s go. Thank you for the great post xxx

I have been slowly ticking off back series I have wanted to try. I try to listen/read to one a month and it’s really been effective.

  3. Linda Townsend

I have not read or listened to any of her books. However, that will be changing as I’ve picked up a few of this series on Audible… so I’ll be hitting play with them soon!

I completely agree with you. I can’t imagine, Cole’s Immortals After Dark without Petkoff. Since my first listen to this series, I haven’t gone back to reading. It’s great that you offered a giveaway too. I didn’t enter, since I already have a copy. 🙂

Yes, I have but not enough! While I haven’t listened to the IAD series, I listened to the first book in the spin-off series, Shadow’s Claim, and loved it! I know, I did it backwards 😉 I still need to get on the IAD series, and Petkoff is an amazing narrator!

I’ve also listened to Poison Princess (loved it), but I need to catch up on the rest of the Arcana Chronicles!

    Thanks for the giveaway!

If I ever get to a good place for a reread, I want to listen to these. I love the series and all the characters and I’m very curious about this narrator. Everyone seems to adore him, so I’m anxious to give him a listen.

I tried the first book in this series, and I didn’t care for it. I’m wondering if it was just the book, because so many people seem to love this series. Is it essential this series be read in order? I may need to give it another go.

    Great review.
