A deadly secret can't stay buried forever . . .

Revenge. It's the only thing that will help Anya Best sleep at night. The serial killer who murdered her sister is on the loose, and Anya will stop at nothing to put him behind bars-even use herself as bait to lure him out of hiding. But she can't do this alone.

Private investigator Heath Jones's job is to bring bastards to justice. This time it's personal. He knew the Copper Killer's latest victim so when her sister asks for his help, he's all in. But when Anya uses the media to taunt the killer, she exposes Heath's identity, putting them both in jeopardy. Now, secrets buried long ago are coming to light and the forces determined to destroy him are watching Heath's every move, waiting to exact their own revenge. And they'll use anything and anyone to get to Heath.

With twists and turns that will take your breath away, LETHAL LIES is sexy, action-packed suspense at its very best from New York Times bestselling author Rebecca Zanetti.

MURDERMYSTERY ROMANCE Brothers SUSPENSE

Ths LETHAL LIES by Rebecca Zanetti is the second book in the Blood Brothers series, a spinoff of her wildly popular Sin Brothers series. While I have yet to read the Sin Brothers series, the Blood Brothers series combines, suspense, romance,  and a little sci-fi to feed my inner nerd. Fast-paced and action-packed I devoured LETHAL LIES.

Heath Jones, a private investigator with the Lost Bastards Investigative Agency, has been working a case involving the Cooper Killer. Anya Best crosses paths with Heath when thugs claiming to be Marshalls show up on her sister’s doorstep. Heath ends up saving her, but also revealing that her sister has been taken by the Cooper Killer. When her sister ends up dead, she taunts the killer and exposes Heath. Now he and his brothers are in danger, but that won’t stop him from protecting her.

Dark, gritty and intense Zanetti wove a tale that will hook the reader. Both Heath and Anya have baggage but are drawn to each other. I loved how stubborn they both were. She to catch the killer, and him to protect her. Both are smart, strong, and determined. It was interesting watching them butt heads and begin to work together.

I struggled a little with the romantic connection.  It wasn’t an earth moving romance filled with swoons, but as the author peeled back their layers I felt myself rooting for their happily ever after. I expect instalove in this genre, but feel Zanetti failed to make me swallow the little blue pill.  Despite Heath being a bit of a knucklehead, we avoided a lot of unnecessary drama.

Zanetti did an excellent job of balancing all of the threads.  The Cooper case has exposed them to the Sheriff, and  Dr. Isobel Madison, the women who genetically altered them. I thoroughly enjoyed how the two suspense threads were woven together. There were plenty of twists in the Cooper Killer case. Zanetti delivered heartstopping moments and plenty of action. The suspense was fantastic and told in such a way that it had me on edge. This more than made up for the so-so romance.

LETHAL LIES offered us more details about the brothers past, their biological parents and more. We get a few updates from the Sin Brothers which only further enticed me to start that series. The overall arc, brothers, and perspectives of the villains make this a must read series.

This may be a new series I should try. I have not read a good thriller in a long while. Great review!

  2. Dragonfly

I’m craving some Rebecca so badly. She is my girl! She always gets me out of reading slumps like the HUGE one I’m having now 🙂 I’ll add this one 🙂

Swallow the blue pill, Kim! lol. I’m looking forward to finally reading something from this author. I have one of the Scorpius books, so maybe soon …

  4. Katherine

This sounds great! I love romantic suspense even if one aspect falls a little short. Sounds like a book I’d enjoy!

  5. Michele

I sure have read some mixed reviews on this one, and you know what that means? I’ve got to read it and see which side I land on! lol I’ve never read this author before, but you definitely have me curious. I just wish the romance was more than so-so. Oh well, at least there’s a serial killer. That trumps romance anyway, right?. 😉 Great review, my friend <3

    Hey there,
Sounds like a rather compelling read 🙂
I’ve actually never heard of this author before, but now it might be the right time to change that. Especially the romance and crime combo appeals to me, since it promises to be very entertaining. It definitely goes in the maybe pile for my next book order 🙂
Great review & lots of love,

Even though you had some niggles it sounds like this was good and suspenseful.

  8. Angie

I can tell from the blurb this book is not for me. I would be running far and fast if there was a serial killer on the loose! I’m glad you enjoyed this one, Kim.

I’ve been hearing a lot of positive review from this author so I guess I’ll be checking out her Sin Brothers series. Yay, can’t wait!

  10. Melliane

It is great that it continues to be good. It looks quite well done as well. I should try this author and this series!

At least the drama was kept at a minimum though right? It sounds like you struggled a bit with this but once you settled in you liked it.

  12. Angela

I couldn’t get through the first book for some reason (I’m not sure if it was me or the book) so I skipped this one until I give the first book another try.

  13. Nadene

I am sorry the romance did not deliver. It is good that you enjoyed the story is spite of the issues you had with the romance.

  14. Nick

I’m currently reading this one, Kim and I read the first book over the weekend. I agree about the romances. They aren’t all that great, and it definitely feels like insta-love. I do like all the other elements though!
    Great review! 🙂

I am putting this series on my wish list. This sounds good, too bad about the romance but the story sounds solid. Great review!

I was actually planning to read this book but after reading some reviews, honestly, I’m not so sure anymore.
I’m curious about her Sin Brothers series, though.
Awesome review, Kim. Thanks for sharing.

I was not into this romance either, but I did enjoy the overall story. The Sins Brothers is a good series. I loved book two of that one. Can’t wait for the next book in this series.
