Gertrude Hunt, the nicest Bed and Breakfast in Red Deer, Texas, is glad to have you. We cater to particular kind of guests, the ones most people don’t know about. The older lady sipping her Mello Yello is called Caldenia, although she prefers Your Grace. She has a sizable bounty on her head, so if you hear kinetic or laser fire, try not to stand close to the target. Our chef is a Quillonian. The claws are a little unsettling, but he is a consummate professional and truly is the best chef in the Galaxy. If you see a dark shadow in the orchard late at night, don’t worry. Someone is patrolling the grounds. Do beware of our dog.

Your safety and comfort is our first priority. The inn and your host, Dina Demille, will defend you at all costs. We ask only that you mind other guests and conduct yourself in a polite manner.

“I learned that sometimes what you go looking for isn’t as important as what you leave behind.”

I. Love. Ilona Andrews. This writing team combined with the narration of Renee Raudman is pure friggin magic! ONE FELL SWEEP is the third book in the Innkeeper Chronicles featuring Gertrude Hunt, a magical bed and breakfast located in Texas, and her InnKeeper, Dina Demille. The Andrews writing team delivers this story for fans for free as a serial on their website before publishing them. While I bought the eBook, I held out for the audio release and man it was so worth the wait! Humor, heart, snark and more await you in ONE FELL SWEEP.

What an intense ride filled with rewards for readers of the series. I am not going to reveal any, but ONE FELL SWEEP had my emotions all over the place. Dina has family arrive, and a return guest who provided support and an interesting thread of their own.

I held my breath as Dina, and the Inn found themselves under attack for offering shelter to a particular species. Andrews impressed me with their descriptive imagination regarding these creatures, their room, and the mission.  Dina and her motley crew of both staff, friends, and guests come together to protect their guest and more.

For fans of the series, you know that pesky Sheriff who Dina always manages to allude when there is a commotion at the Inn. Well, things get mighty interesting from meddling to conversations. I laughed so hard I had tears streaming down my face.

Dina goes through some trials and revelations of her own. Not only do we see movement in her relationship with a certain sexy wolf, but she also has problems with the Inn. What an emotional roller coaster. From fear to tears the Andrews delivered twists and turns that made my stomach flip.

One of my favorite aspects of this series, heck in any of their series is how well developed and unique the secondary characters are. From a sweet little girl to the resident cook. I delighted in their antics. The definition of Christmas from an alien’s perspective. PRICELESS!  Despite the dangers, I want to pack my bags and move into Gertrude Hunt for a month. I know exactly what my room will look like, complete with bookshelves and a coffee maker.

As I mentioned Renee Raudman narrators and for me, she is the voice of Ilona Andrews. I love the different voices she creates which allow me to know who is speaking immediately. Her pacing and tone only enhance the humorous aspects and bring the suspenseful, nail-biting moments to life. While I have to avoid reviews, the wait for the audio and the pure pleasure I derive from listening makes the wait worth it.

The climatic ending revealed a clue regarding Dina’s parents, but we will have to wait for the next installment to discover more.

“Chicks dig a man of mystery.”
“You don’t say.”
“You know what else chicks dig?”
“Subatomic vaporizers?”
“And werewolves. Chicks really dig werewolves.”

I have this jewel sitting on my Nook and Audible account. I think I’ll do a series relisten before listening to it. I’ve forgotten too much of what happened in the series. (Getting old and can’t remember details lol)

I never have time to relisten to anything..but I do listen to bits to refresh usually the last few chapters if its been awhile.

I so love this series (my review hasn’t posted yet, but I have it written and ready to post). I love the visuals that Ilona Andrews can do with strange species. They have done it in all of their series. I don’t know how they come up with it. The secondary characters in this series are so cute. I love them all. Poor Dina. I had tears in my eyes.

OMG I have got to get them on my pile. Every time I see them reviewed its always 4 or 5 stars or in your case cups:) Just need more time! Thanks Kim!

  4. Tanya

I love the Ilona Andrews team and I am dying to get to this series on the TBR. I might move it closer to the top since there aren’t as many written in this one yet. I already have the first two in my Audible library, just need the listening time! This series sounds amazing!

  5. Leona

Once I catch up in the Kate Daniels series I am finishing this series! The first one left so much to be desired that I can’t leave it sitting on my shelves for long.

Have you listened to the Edge series yet? You might want to dive into those first, since there is a character(s) from them! Plus they are awesome too. I am all caught up on all of her series. It is depressing..LOL

      • Leona

I haven’t gotten to that series yet, but I’m chomping at the bit to get there.

I was gonna say ass soon as I catch up in Kate’s series, this one goes on the docket. 🙂 But maybe I’ll do this series in audio! 😉 I”m so happy it was so satisfying for you, Kimberly. The Andrews duo really do rock! 😀

  7. Cyn

Yay yay yay! I had forgotten about this series until a few days ago and just picked it up! So happy to see you loved it! Can’t wait to read it! Awesome review, Kim!

  8. Angela

I’m very slowly catching up on the Kate Daniels series, but I’ve not read this one although the magical b&b sounds interesting. Thanks for introducing me to what looks like it will be another great series! Adding it to my list.

  9. Nick

Sounds fantastic, Kim! I love this duo’s writing too, so I have total faith when you say that this series is another hit. I love the sound of the characters and gotta know what’s going on between the Sheriff and Dina! I’m glad you loved it so much, Kim! 🙂

Yassers! I am getting set to listen to book two soon and seeing your thoughts on the fabulousness of book three has me squirmy with excitement.

  11. Silvia

I’m afraid I still have to try her books, and I don’t know how to catch up with all the volumes in the series 🙁 . . . Anyway, I’m glad to know it’s good and that you loved this instalment so much!

I will tell you book one of the Kate Daniel’s story was rough. I feel you and it is overwhelming. Two years ago I had read none of her works and now I have read them all. I started with Kate and began reading one book a month. Now I am doing that with Kelsey Cole and J. R. Ward

  12. Kristen

I only recently found out this was urban fantasy, not high fantasy, and it sounds like a great series! I love when even secondary characters are fleshed out, and emotions and laughter are always great! Great review 🙂

  13. Melliane

I really enjoy this one maybe not as much as you did but I had a great time and I’m curious for more!

  14. Victoria

I absolutely LOVE the first two books but I’m in a bit of a pickle. 0__0 Should I wait until the whole thing is finished or read it as it comes out? The last two I read back to back this past week and I’m desperate to read more but I can’t decide if I should wait.

Seriously, I will start this series some day soon! So many out there I need to read dang it. Glad you loved this though, that is very promising.
