25th May

Thanks to a fellow blogger I received a box of children’s books from Penguin and will be sharing them with you this summer. When the box arrived Sophia’s eyes lit up. She loves opening packages and squealed when she saw what was inside.  In the box where three books, and today we are sharing Raybot by Adam F. Watkins. This was the book Sophia demanded to read first. Grab a cup of coffee and enjoy! You will want to pick up Raybot for the little ones in your life 🙂

When an inquisitive robot named Raybot begins to explore Earth, he knows he is supposed to find the thing that goes "bark." But try as he might, all he can find are things that go "roar" and "oink" and "moo." Still, Raybot keeps searching, and on the way, he discovers that Earth is full of interesting, friendly creatures. Children will relate to Raybot's wonder as he discovers new sounds and animals in the world, and adults will appreciate the detail and beauty in the hand-painted illustrations.

Raybot by Adam F. Watkins is an oversized hardcover that shares the story of Raybot a young robot who lives at the junkyard. The theme is “every robot needs a friend” and the message in this beautifully illustrated story is “friends come in all different shapes and sizes.” The story is simplistic and follows Raybot as he searches for a puppy. He travels the globe meeting all sorts of animals whom he barks at asking ,”Are you a puppy?” The animals respond with oinks and roars and all sorts of animal sounds. Sophia laughed and oohed as we turned the pages. The text is clear and simplistic making this a lovely earlier reader story. It also held Sophia’s attention and we took the time to name all the animals we met. I loved the overall message and while it was lost on Sophia it won’t be long before she gets it. For now the ritual of looking at the pictures is preparing her for reading. After we finished, she picked the book up and turned the pages mimic reading and pointing at the many animals. I melted when she kissed Raybot.

So cute! I am on a kick to help my son get ready for 1st grade so we are going to take turns reading some books this summer. What a wonderful surprise to get all those books.

That picture is too much cuteness in one place! This sounds like a fun read. I’m not reading this type of book much to the Tornado anymore because we’ve moved on to chapter books but this is the kind of book I think he’d love to read to himself.

I think I’d love this book but I really love the photo of the Princess with her loot!! I’m so happy you got some new goodies to share with her. 😀

How do you get Princess to smile EVERY TIME?!?! She is too precious – squeeze her for me!!!!

I think this sounds like a great book for Sophia’s age where they are learning sounds of animals and want to mimic. Kind of a starting to read book, too 🙂

Agreed. As for smiling, if you point a camera at her she does a cheesy smile. In this picture we took it right after opening the box and she was so excited.
