Ashley Davison, a graduate student in California, desperately wants to spend the holidays with her family in Seattle. Dashiell Sutherland, a former army intelligence officer, has a job interview in Seattle and must arrive by December 23. Though frantic to book a last-minute flight out of San Francisco, both are out of luck: Every flight is full, and there’s only one rental car available. Ashley and Dash reluctantly decide to share the car, but neither anticipates the wild ride ahead. At first they drive in silence, but forced into close quarters Ashley and Dash can’t help but open up. Not only do they find they have a lot in common, but there’s even a spark of romance in the air. Their feelings catch them off guard—never before has either been so excited about a first meeting. But the two are in for more twists and turns along the way as they rescue a lost puppy, run into petty thieves, and even get caught up in a case of mistaken identity. Though Ashley and Dash may never reach Seattle in time for Christmas, the season is still full of surprises—and their greatest wishes may yet come true.

coverlove SUSPENSE Holiday

Every holiday I try to read at least one Debbie Macomber holiday themed romance and this year I chose to listen to Dashing Through the Snow: A Christmas Novel narrated by Allyson Ryan. At under 5 hours, Macomber delivered an interesting read where two strangers share a ride from San Francisco to Seattle.  Toss in a case of mistaken identity, a puppy and an overzealous FBI agent and things get downright interesting.

The story starts with a message from Debbie Macomber herself on how the story first came to fruition and it made me chuckle.

Ashley Davidson is a graduate student in California and a rare opportunity comes along allowing her to spend the holidays with her mother. Unfortunately, she cannot get a flight. No worries, she will just rent a car and drive home. When she gets to the checkout, she discovers there is only one vehicle left. Hooray! The man behind her Dashiell Sutherland a former army intelligence officer is trying to make it to Seattle for a job interview. Some complications, a phone call to his Mom, and some bickering back and forth soon finds the two traveling together. Insta-love nope, these two grated on each other’s nerves but you could feel the chemistry building. Macomber tosses in a few unexpected twists and these two embark on their adventure.

I had a delightful time listening and Allyson Ryan captured both Ashley and Dash giving me the opportunity to laugh aloud, roll my eyes and ride along with them.

Dashing Through the Snow is the perfect audio to listen too as you head over the mountains and through the woods to Grandmother’s house. Humor, unexpected love and complications aplenty provided quite the adventure.

This sounds fun. I will keep it in mind. My DH and I are watching many Hallmark movies. We have favorites from last year but this year’s offerings… not sure yet.

Romance, suspense and holiday read? I like the sounds of that! I do love a humourous and cute Christmas read! Lovely review, Kim!

Oh that’s awesome! My roommate and I have been binge watching Christmas Hallmark movies all week, haha! I’ll definitely have to check it out! Thanks for the heads up!

  3. Aurian

I almost bought this one, as it sounds so good, but I do have dozens of her books on my shelves already, still unread. But I am glad you enjoyed it so much Kimba.

I hear you. I have one of her earlier releases by Quick to read from this year and another of her suspense standalones..so many books so little time!!

  4. Eva

I have a serious weakness for reading holiday books in December — and I’ve never read one of Debbie Macomber! I definitely need to change this now! Great review!!

  5. Lorna

I used to read every Macomber book I could get my hands on. And then I realized not so long ago, that she was very old fashioned when it came to any kind of sex in a book, so it made them to be very unreal for me. That being said, I absolutely love her Christmas books, and I think I have read most of them! I am glad you had fun with this listen 🙂

  6. Lisa (Lost in Lit)

I feel like every Debbie Macomber book I’ve ever seen has some sort of gorgeous holiday cover. I’ve never read one of her books before, but the holiday season seems like the perfect time! 🙂

  7. Kathy

I love Debbie Macomber for the holidays. I always feel good afterward, and there are always strong messages to be found. Excellent choice. 🙂

  8. Katherine

For some reason I haven’t read any of Macomber’s holiday reads though I’ve enjoyed the books of hers I have read. My library has this on audio and this definitely sounds like a nice read. Thanks for sharing! I have a few of her Hallmark movies recorded so this year may be the Debbie Macomber Christmas.

  9. Melissa (Books and Things)

Hm… I haven’t tried one of her holiday reads so I may have to do this one. I often chose the really strange holiday reads but there are exceptions… 😀 I always love the dog on her covers.

  10. Heidi

I just picked up a book by her, and I am hoping I will love it. This one sounds perfect for the holidays.

  11. Stormi

I love Debbie Macomber (She is my favorite for when I read contemporary which isn’t very often.), I really need to get this one it sounds cute. 🙂

  12. Candace

This one sounds like one I might like. I like the idea of listening to it on audio too, especially since it’s so short. It might be the one holiday read I’ll squeeze in this year. 🙂

  13. Tracy Terry

Not an author who is particularly popular here. Our local libraries don’t hold any of her books and whilst I think some of them would be ideal for any festive reading challenges I’m not sure if they are books I’d actually want to buy soooo if I were to purchase one of Debbie’s ‘Christmas’ novel which would you suggest as being typical of her works?

  14. Tyler H. Jolley

I’m glad there’s no insta-love. That seems to happen a lot in holiday books. I love that Macomber worked in a lost puppy into the story. Those kind of quirks kill me.

  15. Nick

Oh this sounds like a whole lot of fun! I love that they grate on each other’s nerves but still have a lot of chemistry.
    Lovely review!

  16. Laurel-Rain Snow

I love Debbie’s books, but haven’t yet read one of the Christmas ones. This story will be a TV movie on Hallmark soon.

    Thanks for sharing.

She is definitely a good author to read this time of year. I think I have a set of her series on my kindle somewhere still I should pull them out and see if there is a Christmas one in it somewhere.

  18. Jenny

Oh this sounds right up my alley Kim, there’s nothing I love more than an antagonistic romance! There’s always so much tension and chemistry flying between two people who don’t get along initially:) Thanks for the recommendation!

  19. Lekeisha

Macomber is my go-to author when it comes to Christmas stories. I adore her Mrs. Miracle books! I’ll have to add this one to my list.

  20. Lexxie

I love Macomber’s Christmas stories, Kim, and I haven’t picked up one this year yet. I think I found the one I need 🙂
Dashing Through the Snow sounds really good, and it’s great that you enjoyed it so much even if the story is quite short!
    Great review 🙂

  21. Bookworm Brandee

This sounds delightful! I’ve never read Macomber. *gasp* I know! But this sounds like it’d be a great listen and since I start working next week, maybe I’ll give it a listen…get myself into the holiday spirit before dealing with the public doing all their holiday shopping at B&N. 😉

  22. Rashika

One of my fav things about the holiday season is reading wonderful holiday themed books and I’ve been looking for some to read! This one sounds like such a fun and charming read and I’ll have to look more into it! 🙂

    Thanks for sharing, Kim! 🙂
